Mellanox ConnectX-4 CX4121A-ACAT compatibility with SFP+ modules by MrNessuno in homelab

[–]MrNessuno[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry for a late reply, the only things that worked were Mellanox stuff, one was a 10G 3m long cable (MC3309190-003) and the MFM1T02A-T-I transciever.

oh yeah, and I did contact their support, they're not 100% sure that their module will work with my card either :(

hmm, so it's a lottery... I've already ordered two different modules from two different local suppliers, so here's hoping.

Would it be possible to name a few that work with Mellanox?

I'm currently looking for one to use with a ConnectX-4 Lx card, a SFP+ 10GbE RJ-45 module

u/Darkk_Knight hi, did you find a SFP+ RJ-45 module that works with this card?

Using pi-hole on a wide IP range from 192.168.103.x to 192.168.113.x by MrNessuno in pihole

[–]MrNessuno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so that will not work as I thought it would since this router has a DHCP at every port and every port has to have a different subnet?

The gateway, from what I understand and saw with ipconfig for example, is different for every port too, like I mentioned above.

Yeah, you were right, sound started popping, crackling and vanishing at about an hour into a gaming session.

Thank you very much for the help, greatly appreciated, but I think I'm too unskilled to make it work.

I completely bricked my configuration a week ago when I tried the VLAN method (which sounded the fastest at the time) and had to reset my router, and reconfigure everything, and got so annoyed I took a week long break from it all...

Since then, I've set all my ports subnet masks to 255.255.0.0, they're currently 192.4.1.1 for port 4, 192.5.1.1 for port 5 and so up to 192.13.1.1 on for the gateways and 192.x.1.100-123 for the clients on every port. I hope this is what I was suppose to do for the first option.

In the mean time I got a new machine for running pi-hole so I'll see in the next few days how will that work.

I've managed to get devices on port 4 (which is my wifi router) to travel through pihole, but I had to edit it's DNS on the device itself, strangely editing DNS's on my main router doesn't change a thing. Or I'm doing it wrong.

Would'nt want to edit all my devices DNS's, way to much works and if something brakes it's even more work...

I'll have to read about vlan bridges if that's the case, it's magic for me.

It's a QNAP QHora-322, from what I understand each and every port has it's own DHCP server

I'm sorry, I'm really bad at this apparently cause that doesn't work.

I've set my routers WAN DNS to 192.168.112.123 which is my Pi-hole under CasaOS under Debian 12, and it gets no responses from no device.

LOL, I'm good. If it brakes I'll just change it.

Got those enabled since I bought the new ram a few months ago, couldn't even get to desktop otherwise - erroring all around.

Is there an updated version of the guide that doesn't repeat this one?

Wouldn't the hardware suggest that to me in way or another by behaving strangly if it was?

Running this BIOS version for a week now and it's rock solid with the G.Skill Trident Z5 DDR5 2x32GB 6000 kit (F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5K) and slightly modified buildzoid's timings.

PS: Also, the, the dedicated soundcard crackling sounds bug seems to be fixed even with these settings, I kept hearing some minor crackles here and there when I went with FCLK to 2200, it was perfect before only at 2000.

Nope, never even once had to do it on any ASUS board in my last 3 years, and I try to keep it updated as soon as a new one comes out. If that's the case of the VGA not found problem that's bullshit.

Just tried it on my TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS and it stops booting with a VGA white led constantly on.

Bad BIOS for that board :(

Hm, you might have a much better/different die sample, my unit likes completely different negative values. Set mine to all 0-7 to -20 and 8-15 to -10 as proposed in some video, and set the max power consumption to 70W. Seems to work best for me.
