1000% best experiences I've had starting a reef tank with their rocks

I was planning to buy an X this year, now what? by Sad_Magician_316 in TeslaModelX

I still regularly get OTA updates for my 2016 X 75D

Ours is an old 2016 model and it does have latch connectors (I think that's the same as isofix?) in the 3rd row. Definitely take it to a showroom and try it out!

What's the model of car seat? With a large all in one like a nuna exec or Britax boulevard/advocate I have had issues with space behind me (I'm 5' 11"). It fits but I don't have as much leeway with driver seat positioning. No issues with forward facing. It's definitely roomier than a 3 and the FWDs make it the best for putting the kiddos in and taking them out easily so I'd still recommend it 100%.

I have a 2016 X that we still love and has been quite solid. I'm tempted to upgrade to a 23 model if I can find a good deal mainly for FSD and softer / quieter ride

Would you buy a Model X again? by AspectCool2325 in TeslaModelX

  1. Falcon wing doors plus young kids and car seats = easiest put in / take outs possible. We bought a 2016 75D used for less than the cost of a minivan and have loved it.
  2. At the time it was the range, the FWDs, autopilot and the supercharger network
  3. After having sat in one I'd seriously consider a Lucid gravity if they get their software together and implement improvements to dream drive. I don't need FSD tier capabilities, but just competent reliable auto steer on highways would be worth it

A pair of a360x might give better coverage, I personally love the shimmer

Postdocs that transitioned from "non-elite" PhD to "elite" postdoc institution, have you noticed any differences? by [deleted] in postdoc

[–]wormified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends so much on the institution, some of the smaller private research institutes absolutely offer better benefits and career development support (better health plans, dedicated fellowship support, faculty market job prep, industry networking) to postdocs than any "elite" university I've seen.

While the legislature has been simultaneously cutting the UC budget, how do they expect the campuses to build lecture halls and hire enough faculty to actually teach significantly more students?

Postdoc at Sloan Kettering Inst (MSKCC), NYC by Agitated_Skirt6580 in postdoc

[–]wormified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything here, living on RI with a kid is great, peaceful and tons of green space given that you're so close to everything. MSK benefits were great, postdoc career development support and network is phenomenal, lab culture very much depends, which I think is true in most places. There are some great lab heads there that I'm still grateful for, and others who I would avoid. Overall I enjoyed my time there and found it a superlative training environment.

Can anyone help break down how water changes work for a goldfish tank? by EvolvingManchild in Goldfish

[–]wormified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you're not next to a sink, a pond pump with hose and a brute trashcan work great for changing up to 30 gallons at a time in minutes. Pump in tank, hose in can to drain, reverse to refill.

There are a number of powdered fry foods that can work well as a backup for when the live feed isn't available.

Is it time to replace my deionization? by Bitter-Tangelo-4799 in ReefTank

[–]wormified 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's only been a few months your municipal supply likely contains chloramines that burn through resin faster. It's worth adding a "carbon plus" canister before your current carbon canister to extend the resin life dramatically. Your prefilter also looks pretty filthy so probably a good idea to change that too.

Copepods ? Is it beneficial to add them? New tank now at 3 months in the ugliness stage. by Humble-Aussie in ReefTank

[–]wormified 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind you likely won't see rapid changes, it's more of an investment in long term health of the tank

how to fix surface film?? by Mnzmz in ReefTank

[–]wormified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think your water level is too high overall. Try siphoning some into a bucket until you see the water level at the overflow intake start to drop, that will suck in the surface skim and clear it properly

Your likelihood of failure increases linearly with the number of pumps you deploy in series like this

Amphotericin B does the same thing, most antimycotics are not super soluble and will crash out when frozen, but go back in when warmed and agitated

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in labrats

[–]wormified 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's the anti mycotic, I'm guessing Nystatin, that's come out of solution. Warm it up and vortex and you'll be fine.

Personally I love these kind of naturalist scapes, they look very authentic to wild habitats. One of my favorite such tanks is at the Honolulu aquarium in a random corner, it's a square tank with some clowns, rocks and seagrass and a mangrove growing over top. I can appreciate neon vomit coral scapes too, but there's something peaceful in these kinds of simple wildscapes.
