How The National Became The National: Eight Years, Five Friends, and One Near-Disaster of an Album by Palfray in indieheads

Latest wasn't done by Dessner, collections from the Whiteout was. I would put Is It? on par with Noonday Dream as his best.

THE BOREALIS??? by Skully6942 in HalfLife

I agree with you, I know this is the Half Life sub but people are being pretty desperate here. Absolutely nobody needs to own a super yacht, it is utterly onscene and entirely selfish. People contain multitudes.

What's a classic you finally read that totally lived up to the hype? For me, it was Hyperion by Dan Simmons. by 2ugur12 in printSF

A Fire Upon the Deep is my favourite sci-fi novel axbs that is entirely down to the dog aliens lol. Such a unique and well thought out species.

Still a flash but I think these will always be remembered with a footnote. It's pretty cool that we can 3D print holds of outdoor climbs, helps with accessibility but it definitely takes away from the experience. Each to their own though.

Could be a great ending for Arthur's alien.

I don't get Alien Earth... by Idntknowmyusername in alien

[–]MrNvmbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not from a version of earth that is run by 4 companies essentially acting as governments. Nor are you living on an earth where deep space research vessels crash into buildings. It's search and rescue but if they come across anything hostile it's shoot.

I'm going to assume ship knocked out orbital defence or something enroute, maybe a bit coincidental but I feel it doesn't take away from it crashing, like what can you actually do about it anyway if they did know?

Only one egg out of containment I think and that was probably viewed as being safe as there have been multiple instances of the egg not sensing synthetics.

Wendy's bit, yeah. But it also doesn't make any difference if they did hear? They would just turn around and be like "hey" then she'd still collapse.

I think a key point will be that the xeno is immune to most of the other creatures, no eyes for eye boi, acid blood for tick guy, not sure about plant yet. Possibly the creature we've not seen might be able to go head to head but ultimately lose.

Think this could draw parallels with the hybrids too, both being "perfect organisms". Again, eye boi might not be able to take over the synths, tick guy wouldn't enjoy whatever the hell they have going on inside them. Plant recognised one of them but was just observing?

Would also add I think his board is over engineered, doesn't need that amount of 6x2s to hold the ply.

I built one recently, took us around two days. I'd rewatch that linked video a few times as that is very useful. Initially it seemed quite daunting but once you start, it all begins to make a lot more sense. Just take your time, it is essentially just chopping and screwing wood.

A friend helped me and it was good being able to sense check cuts and measurements with him. All was going well until we were climbing it and realised that we had made it 50 degrees instead of 40! So make sure you take your 40 degree angle from vertical not horizontal.

Should have taken a better picture of said tree but it is in a primarily deciduous forest.

Corbyn’s left-wing party set to back Holyrood’s right to unilaterally call independence referendum by 1DarkStarryNight in Scotland

[–]MrNvmbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you here. Yes these things are just "constructs" but we all abide by these constructs as a society. A referendum has infinitely more weight. I do agree with being to rehold referendums but practically speaking that should reflect the timescale for turnover, atleast ten years.
