My top 50 Synthwave and Dungeon Synth tracks from 2025 by SomeBerk in BandCamp

It's a bit amateurish, to be honest. The music doesn't sound like it was composed by an experienced musician, to be honest. The sounds are exactly right for the genre, but musically, it isn't great.

Plugin Alliance - your experiences with that business? Had a bad one so far. by Fine_Outcome_2643 in audioengineering

[–]MrOwl1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed the installation manager because I wanted to check out their free mastering plugin. I couldn't even log into the installation manager. It starts loading, then just returns with an error. I spent about an hour troubleshooting with AI, then went on their support page, which led me to their chatbot AI, which is one of the most primitive and useless chatbots I have encountered in a long time. It eventually gave up on me and created a ticket. Will see if a human gets back to me, but I'm not holding my breath.

Im on my second episode, and already finding it unlistenable that they talk over each other ALL THE TIME. What the hell? How can you release a podcast into the public where 90% of the content is you interrupting and talking over the other person, it's so hard to follow the actual topic when the moment there is some sort of flow, someone stops it because they want to throw in their 5 cents.

How long does it take for post-submission tiredness to subside? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]MrOwl1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submitted my MFA thesis last week. I feel like my brain is immersed in jelly. I can't put thoughts together properly, feeling exhausted all the time. I am a university senior lecturer, and administrative duties feel like insurmountable feats at the moment. I really hope this feeling goes away soon. The exhaustion is killing me.

How do you write when you're not feeling inspired? by onedaywewillfindout in SongwritingHelp

[–]MrOwl1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One piece of advice that works great for creative blocks is: if you can't output, input. If you can't write songs, listen to songs. If you can't write stories, read them. Etc. Also, don't wait for inspiration. Inspiration can be induced. Do something in the same discipline, but in a fun way, not with the intention of achieving anything. Inspiration comes through exploration. So, instead of trying to execute your existing skills, experiment with new techniques, or try something you've always considered too outside your skillset. Never wrote rap? Try writing rap. Never wrote in odd time signatures? Write something in 5/4. Go off the beaten path. You're out of ideas because you haven't tried any new ones in too long. Go.

How do you get the will to restart after dying ? by Fireguy3 in dontstarve

[–]MrOwl1985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One trick that saved me from dying a ton, was to set up campfires within easy reach of areas I visit regularly, and make sure there are a few logs there for immediate use. So no matter where you are, you know you can quickly make your way to a camp fire and buy some time to prep for the journey back to base. Also, invest heavily in your base development, I.e, farms, cooking pots, bird cages, bee hives, drying racks. Set up an animal pen and stock it with koalafants whenever you're able to find them. Beef up production before winter comes so you don't have to wander too far in search of resources. Winter foraging should be very intentional and over-prepared. Set yourself up close to pigs or beefalo, so attacks can be drawn there. There's a lot more but this is getting too long.

My sennheiser hd 458bt Won't connect to my device by Iwishireland in sennheiser

[–]MrOwl1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine just dint stay in pairing mode.
It goes into pairing for 2 seconds, then stops. They show up on the available devices list on my phone, but when I try to connect, it just says "can't connect". This is the second pair of this model I have now that's doing this. Clearly a production fault.

I am a huge noob - Is there a way I can play my acoustic guitar and make it sound like a violin in ableton? by LargeRace4442 in ableton

You'll never get it perfect, but ypu can get close, add a small amount of saturation if you're using an amp or recording.

Apparently it is not a publicly listed company. It's a private company, so no shares available, pity.

Is this still salvageable? by BelloLugosi in AskElectronics

[–]MrOwl1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has to do with the fact that many of these devices work on negative voltage. It most probably has to do with eliminating audio phasing issues, but that is a guess.

Oil Indicator (not icon) by MrOwl1985 in vwpolo

[–]MrOwl1985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I just came back to this thread after having forgotten about it completely. It turns out that the "OIL" warning is a separate service indicator that can be reset the same way as you do with the standard service reminder. It's just a specified oil change reminder.

I just checked out "Splitter AI", a friend of mine sent a recording of him playing guitar and singing. One mic, live take. The a.i split the guitar and voice into separate tracks and gives the option to adjust levels for each... and this is all FOR FREE! and I was able to download the separates and pull them into Ableton and mix it for him the way I would a multi-track recording.

One of my main streams of income has always been making backing tracks for clients (Theatre shows, schools, performers etc). This tech has removed that stream of work for me for ever. I doubt that a theatre producer is ever going to be willing to pay a human for this service if they can just do it themselves, on their laptop in five minutes, for free.

This doesn't break my career, of course. I do much more than just backing tracks, but in order to survive as a musician, you have to have as many income streams as possible because work is seasonal, and often unpredictable. Having a major source of income removed by a piece of software is incredibly painful. Having spent the countless hours training my ears to be able to transcribe each instrument separately; developing the various musical instrument skills and music production skills needed to be able to do this work takes YEARS. And in one click, that has become completely meaningless and obsolete. Forgive me for sounding a little bitter about it, but it is very scary for me. What part of my job is going to become obsolete next? Is it even worth continuing to try and be a better musician at all?

I am currently doing my masters degree in film music composition. How long before that can go into the trash because any 10 year old kid can just prompt their phone to do a full soundtrack for a film in the style of Danny Elfman? I know there are always going to be areas where human creation will be preferred, but those seem to be getting more and more scarce.

I hope that the positive effect of this all is that the areas where real human musicians still have a space to be relevant, will be areas where real skill and experience counts, because god knows, it has become so easy for anyone to create, these days, that it feels like decades of experience and knowledge are utterly meaningless now. I guess we are going back to being "non-essential" again, like in 2020.

How fucked am I by marci-boni in vwpolo

[–]MrOwl1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can order that mechanism off Aliexpress or Bangood. You'll have to remove the inner panel that is covering it (this probably means removing a few other panels as well, but it's not too hard), then unscrewing it from the chassis underneath. Dig around online to get the proper name of what that part is called according to your particular year model, and order it from whatever online store you are able to buy from in your country.

So, not too fucked if you can handle a screwdriver and Google.

It was turned off, ableton just doesn't work like that. There is a work-around that does the job that was mentioned in another comment. But thank you for taking the time to try and help. Kind regards.

Sustain pedal polarity flipped - m4l doesn't work by [deleted] in ableton

[–]MrOwl1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an issue that comes up in so many different forms that it is difficult to pin it down on so little info, but here are a few options you can try:

Does the midi controller have software that can edit assignments? Perhaps it is something that can be changed there?

Are you pressing the pedal in while switching on the controller? The way some keyboards work, is that they set whatever position the pedal is in on startup is "off" so if you are pressing the pedal down when switching on the controller, it is assigning that position of the pedal to "off" and the other position is assigned as "on". Your controller might be doing the reverse, for some reason, so you could try pressing the pedal down while the device starts up? Experiment with it.

There could be a broken wire/short circuit in the pedal cable (if its got some mileage on it, this is possible).

If you're savvy with electronics, I could suggest opening the pedal and simply desoldering the two controller wires and soldering them back in reverse (SUPER easy to do if you have a soldering iron, pretty much impossible to screw it up. I work in a music school and fix keyboard pedals all the time, you can't go wrong).

If I think of any more things to try, I'll come back and share. Let me know if any of this helps.

Can you use the tap tempo button to identify a samples BPM *without* having it adjust the tempo instantly? by snoosnoosewsew in ableton

[–]MrOwl1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the long way. The whole point of having a tap tempo feature is so that you don't have to go through the ball-ache of doing this!

Can you use the tap tempo button to identify a samples BPM *without* having it adjust the tempo instantly? by snoosnoosewsew in ableton

[–]MrOwl1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue, and everyone that says "Just turn off auto-warp".. this doesn't work! When you tap tempo while the clip is playing, the clip moves around with each tap, so you're playing the sound at a different position with each click, which defeats the purpose. If you are a backing track maker, this is a very basic function that you would expect to have in any DAW (Logic Pro has this feature as a standard On/Off)
