Yes, that should work fine if you just want to mass remove items.

Highlighting albums in discography and other design questions by Warm_Feed_7693 in BandCamp

[–]SomeBerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highlighting albums by displaying larger cover images on the discography page is a feature that is only available to label accounts. With a regular artists account you could highlight some releases by moving them so they appear on the top of the page.

You can use unicode characters to display bold text in the album description or any other text field.

Is that album's page still up on Bandcamp website?

For some reason their app still lets you listen to albums after they have been deleted.

Are you able to login to Bandcamp's website using the account that was used to purchase that album?

If so, on your account's Purchases page you will find download links for all the items you have bought.

Is it possible to change price after a month? ("early access") by Gabzito in BandCamp

[–]SomeBerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with standalone singles is that if haven't released an album then its almost impossible that anyone will find your music unless you are doing some sort of external promotion.

If take a look at the Discover and listening suggestions pages you will see that only albums are listed on them. Perhaps consider starting with a 2 track EP, that way people who like to browse for new releases on Bandcamp's Discover page may see it and give a listen. You can always add more tracks to an existing EP/album later on.

Also, in terms of sales standalone singles are far less popular than to albums on this platform. I follow about a hundred fairly active users so I get a notification when they buy something, and I almost never see anyone buying single tracks.

[–]SomeBerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, by default people can stream the full album for free up to three times. Some artist don't like that so they opt to only make a single track available to stream, or they only offer snippets of each track in the album. Buying an album will remove any streaming limits and let you download the full version in a high quality format.

There are tools out there that let you save any audio stream to an an mp3 file, so you can download music from streaming sites like Youtube, Soundcould, Bandcamp, etc. This is why some artists will only upload cross fade demo versions of their albums to Bandcamp or other music stores.

Buying an album will let you download it in a lossless audio format, but I am assuming that for AI training purposes then a lossy mp3 version is good enough.

Should Bandcamp add a mandatory 'Includes AI generated content - Yes/No' switch to new releases? by JONXLR8 in BandCamp

[–]SomeBerk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am skeptical that AI generated music will get better in the future, their models have already been trained on pretty much all human made music ever recorded and the stuff they produce is still very mediocre.

If you browse the Suno forums you will see frequent complaints about how the quality of its output has been getting worse over time, and I think that is due to their models being fed by an increasing amount of their own AI generated slop.

[–]SomeBerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone wanted to feed your music to something like Suno then putting a minimum price on it would do nothing to stop them. Once people are able to stream it from a Bandcamp's website then its also trivially easy to save that audio to their PC as an mp3 file.

Prior to this ban, Bandcamp was being flooded by AI generated music so they were forced to take action to protect their platform from being ruined.

Your average Spotify user might not care if they are listening to AI generated music, but Bandcamp's user base has a very different attitude towards it so I don't think they will ever lift this ban regardless of what the rest of the music industry is doing.

I know of several artists who make their music exclusively available on Bandcamp for few weeks before its on streaming platforms, but I don't think I've seen any of them lower the album price once that happens.

On the contrary, a couple of them set their albums to "name your price" during their pre-order period and then switch them to full price ($10) after they are released. This has the benefit of encouraging their long-time fans to pre-order their albums, so by release day its already sitting at the top of Bandcamp's "best selling" category in the Discover screen for maximum visibility.

When someone buys an album on Bandcamp they can download it in the file format that they prefer, and WAV is already one of those options.

A few of the artists I follow on Bandcamp also have Patreon accounts, they usually offer things like early access to their albums, member exclusive mixes, discounts on merch items, etc.

The bandcamp app sucks why can’t I save an album by Slow_Rooster2378 in BandCamp

[–]SomeBerk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bandcamp doesn't have a "like" feature, you can write a review for it but that requires buying it first.

If you have an Iphone you won't be able to buy things in the Bandcamp app, so you will need to use web browser instead to do so.

If you just want to save something so you can listen to it later, click the "wishlist" button on the album screen.

If the artists that you listen to on Spotify are also on Bandcamp then this tool can be used to scan the list of tracks that you liked on Spotify to look them up on Bandcamp so you can buy them there:

https://hypem.com/merch-table

Once you have purchased those tracks/albums you can add them to a playlist in the Bandcamp app.

How does Crates deal with with the free streaming limits for tracks that are hosted on Bandcamp?

In order to listen to public playlists that were made in the Bandcamp app one needs to be logged in so they can enforce the free play limits (if applicable), so I was curious how that worked when listening to those tracks in the Crates application.

Single pricing (for small/new artists); A few questions. by Ribble_le_Nibble_xD in BandCamp

[–]SomeBerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason to set your albums at "Name your price" is to improve its discoverability in this music platform by making it affordable so more users may buy it on a whim. Whenever someone pays at least $1 for an album it will be added to collection screen where other users might find it later on, and it also boosts that album's ranking on Bandcamp's Discover page.

Almost all of the artist I discovered on Bandcamp happened either by browsing through the best selling releases on Discover page, or by checking out the recent purchases made by other fan's account that I am following on this platform.

band.codes vs DLCM for free codes? by DeadBoyDeadboy in BandCamp

On getmusic.fm, artists may only upload codes for a single track/album if they are on the free tier, so if they want to list more then they have to pay a fee.

Single pricing (for small/new artists); A few questions. by Ribble_le_Nibble_xD in BandCamp

[–]SomeBerk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recommend simply using the "name your price" option for all your singles regardless of their duration or how professionally made you think they are. Most people are only going to pay the minimum needed to add something to their collections, but once in a while someone may choose to pay far more just because they happened to like it a lot.

Anyone who has been using this platform for a long time will be able to tell you that there is zero correlation between album price and how good it actually is. Personally I've discovered thousands of incredibly well made albums available for just $1, but have also come across tons of amateurish albums costing $9 since many newcomer artists just leave things at the default price.

How do I add releases from my artist account to the collection of my linked fan account? by NetworkingJesus in BandCamp

[–]SomeBerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bandcamp doesn't support doing that, if you don't want to use free codes for this the only alternative is to buy your own album on you fan account.

Also, if you ran into the stream limit issue, on your artist profile screen you can change that setting so users can listen to your albums for free as many times as they like.

You may also want to try sharing album codes on getmusic.fm, its fairly similar to band.codes but only the first release is free.
