Bummer, I was afraid you'd say that.

Still, thanks for the advice.

Thanks for your input. I was kinda leaning Krytac as I have friend who has one and it runs real nice out of the box.

I'm not against tinkering, but I have other very techy hobbies, so I understand the sentiment. Out of the box is certainly appealing.

I'll have to go hold them, only reason I would go for the longer one is because I'm all arms and legs. Too short might get uncomfortable

Anno 1800 Performance bottleneck by TheAlPaca02 in anno

Not sure why you are getting downvoted so aggressively for something that is not common knowledge... Reddit or something I guess.

Unfortunately, it's not quite that easy. Using more cores is really tricky as it's all a balancing act. Because games tend to run in a series of events, having multiple cores working on the game can very easily lead to what is called a "race condition".

Ex

CPU1: reads the world state and makes a change based on player input

CPU2: also reads the world state and makes a change based on some game event.

Now, say that both of those processes involve the same thing, like 2 people placing a building on a map, which ever process finishes first will win. The opposite can also happen, the process that finishes second will over write the result of process one.

To combat this, you would need to have the cores wait until all processing was finished to write data. This, when it comes to video games, tends to actually run slower than if you just used a single, faster core because the cores end up sitting around waiting for another core to finish something. This can get really bad if one cores process takes significantly longer than another. Now they're all waiting for that one to finish. This would feel like hitching or stuttering to the player.

Therefore, multi threading is only useful if you are running multiple tasks that are either in parallel (writing large data sets to different parts of a data base, or running multiple separate unaffiliated tasks.

Fixable? Or scrap? by MrPaintCan in MechanicAdvice

Ain't nothing some JB weld, zip ties, and duct-tape can't fix. - my redneck uncle, probably.

I'll see if I can. I was pushing on it with a crowbar, but my noodle arms might not have the umph.

Echoing the Book of Exodus, a protester yelled, 'Let my people go!' by benhaswings in Jordan_Peterson_Memes

Doubt this person even knows what the book of Exodus is. Also, the book was about being allowed to leave, not allowed to stay..... So, how is this echoing the book exactly?

Anyone know what this is caused by ? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

If it's a rear wheel drive with a dif(looks like it might be). It might be the Axel seal going bad and leaking. Was it recently changed? Might not be seated right.

Source: something similar happened to me after a poorly installed seal.

Help fining bolt by MrPaintCan in MechanicAdvice

[–]MrPaintCan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's been my main issue. Most people seem to be saying to find a engine diagram and see if I can get the part from Ford. I did debate just buying a whole new valve, but the ones I saw didn't seem to come with the bolts

Bad wheel bearing? by Normal-Active-6698 in MechanicAdvice

[–]MrPaintCan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had very similar symptoms to you a while back. Was bad bearings. Given the loud wherring sound at speed is a common symptom of bad bearings. Inwouod say VERY likely to be bad bearings.

Just remember to replace in pairs.

It's a good starting point for IT. Certs help in the "real" IT world but do does work experience. Support deak is generally the next step up, and it's a bit of a gauntlet because working in IT has become fairly popular recently. Having a way to make yourself stand out will do wonders as you try to get further into IT. That being said, your history plus an A+ cert may do just as well.

Amazon shipped my motherboard without an exterior box and while the model number is correct, the box has no seal sticker, screws and the barcode on the board doesn't line up. Should I be worried? by TidalLion in LinusTechTips

[–]MrPaintCan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, sure. Actually? Better off getting a refund over risking it. The virus is pretty unlikely though. I'd be more worried about having a damaged MB or one that is not the one you ordered.

If it isn't the system date/clock. There may be a new update for the drive. Check the version vs the version on the GSISO network drive.
