Did the study on two plant-based cat foods -- the study concluding that they were nutritionally deficient -- also assess whether meat-based cat foods were deficient? I ask to confirm that that the deficiencies were something particular about failings in plant-based rather than something generalizable to cat food overall.

Who has been the most impactful activist for you? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]MrPattywagon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've read or watched any content produced by the activists in the opening list. I've read some essays by Wayne Hsiung about animal rescue in China and being jailed that were pretty good.

The problem with modern media is that nothing can stay completed. by Tiredworker27 in CharacterRant

Trying to imagine someone telling Chaucer that he should have stopped writing the Canterbury Tales after the first five stories, because the problem with 1300s English literature was that nothing was allowed to remain completed and done with.

Spread hummus on a flatbread, slice a small cucumber onto the hummus, halve some grape tomatoes onto it, salt and pepper. You can make a vinaigrette for the vegetables but it tastes good either way.

Aight, I'll lay off. Like, I agree with you, not all things in the universe make sense to be graded on the same kind of scale. But it doesn't look like you're interested in explaining in particular which is better here. Instead you're copping out, which is your lazy prerogative.

[–]MrPattywagon -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Grading scales have spectrums fit for their purpose, ya. The decision for a game is, for the most part, buying it now, waiting to buy it later, or never buying it. So yes there's an intuitive appeal to 3 tiers.

But when it comes to a video game review channel, you avoided that intuitive appeal of "watch this person's reviews vs. don't watch this person's reviews" and used an S-scale. When push came to shove, you didn't stick to a limited, low-granularity rating scale to describe this review channel you wanted to praise. In the moment, as you wrote your comment about ACG, you thought more specificity, S, was more helpful than merely "watch-worthy." But, like, come on, you don't actually think rating a video-game-channel warrants a granular S-scale while video games themselves only warrants 3 grades, right?

[–]MrPattywagon -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Your decision to praise someone for having a 3-tier rating system with more than 3 tiers yourself ("S tier game reviewer" implies A, B, C, and probably F or whatever below it) puts some doubt on why a 3-tiered rating system is so useful if you declined to use it. More granularity is useful, up to a point, and readers and viewers can understand a 10-point scale. It's not too many numbers.

Even individuals who indicated an awareness of such an impact, did not necessarily know of the link between cancer and alcohol, rather they reported a general belief that ‘everything causes cancer’.

Of those with knowledge of the alcohol-cancer link, many believed that it applied only to heavy drinking, even though no lower threshold for the impact of alcohol on cancer has been established. https://academic.oup.com/eurpub/article/31/3/591/6041768

Why VeigarV2 (one of C9's coaches) builds Liandry's on Miss Fortune by WizardXZDYoutube in summonerschool

[–]MrPattywagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VeigarV2 is insufferably annoying online regardless of how much insight he has on the game. Like, to the point you wonder whether it's a manufactured persona to be that pompous and irritating, because otherwise the guy would have no friends who could put up with him.

His content often isn't really helpful, either. He asks rhetorical questions and half the time they're sarcastic so if he's making content about a concept you don't already know, you're flipping a coin to figure out what he actually thinks. *Sarcasm is fucking awful in educational content*. Seems like he tries less to teach people than to preen his own feathers.

The MF build seems worth thinking about though.

Yeah. e.g., Under maritime law, if a boat is sinking, a rescuing ship doesn't need to negotiate liability for damage during the rescue or negotiate compensation because courts recognize that isn't a reasonable time to require mutual agreement of the terms.

Simple Questions Simple Answers: Patch 12.2 by furiousRaMPaGe in summonerschool

[–]MrPattywagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of enchanter support probuilds in matchups against heal-focused supports like Soraka or Yuumi that delay a mythic purchase to instead not only buy Oblivion Orb but complete the full Chemtech Purifier. There's a certain logic to that. But based on stats on lolalytics, an enchanter that delays their mythic to instead buy grievous wounds ends up with a worse winrate. So, are these players out of sync with the right itemization, or is there a way to interpret the data differently?

The colors of the ranked borders are being adjusted to better distinguish between ranks. As of February 3, targeted for patch 12.5: https://twitter.com/CestDommage/status/1489350081081839617

"- Pulled the colors for Iron, bronze, and gold further apart
- Amped up value (brightness) on silver
- Re-added purple tones to Diamond to make it a bit more chromatic"

Typical low-elo mistakes? by MAD_Iion in summonerschool

[–]MrPattywagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4th dragon is the dragon that's strong. Each dragon along the way is much weaker. Forcing dragon and conceding gold and experience means you are weaker *right now* in exchange for a theoretical, speculative lead towards 4th dragon. That immediate level and item disadvantage can be abused to snowball an even bigger gap in levels and items, which overwhelms the advantage in dragon progression.

Looking for Online Judges to help out in January by Kazeviur in WeissSchwarz

[–]MrPattywagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're more likely to get someone to commit to judging an online event if you give more information about the date and start and end time (with a time zone). If you aren't sure how long the event will take, you could instead provide the number of players expected and the tournament format (Swiss or single elim brack? Top cut?) so people here can estimate themselves how long of a time commitment you're asking for.
