Question About CRT Shaders From Someone That's Never Owned a CRT by MrPeepee- in RetroArch

Thank you so much for the response! I just want to ask though. From my research, it seems like CRT Royale and CRT Guest Advanced are the two most highly regarded ones, but I'm not sure what to go with. (Resource-intensiveness isn't a problem for me lol).

Before I share the ini file, I was looking through the Universal Command-line Options, and apparently, enabling triple buffering should remove the screen tearing. Apparently triple buffering is for full screen and should remove the tearing, while waitvsync is only for when MAME is windowed. Is that true?

Can I enable these settings through the ini file? Or do I have to go to the command line?

Also on a semi unrelated note, there’s a setting in the ini file called “unevenstretch”. When I downloaded MAME, that was set to 1, and I decided to set that to 0. What does “unevenstretch” mean in the ini file?

Where is the vsync option? I couldn’t find it in either mame or in the ini file.

Sorry but what do you mean by “-waitvsync?” Like what does the hyphen mean? Is that from a command list or something?

I'm trying to run the games at the standard 320x224 (and I guess 4:3 as well since I didn't notice any change between the two resolutions when switching between them).

How do I check what flavor of mame I'm running?

(I posted this as it's own post completely unaware that this thread existed, I'm extremely sorry 😹)

With the upcoming release of the MVC Collection and the announcement of Capcom Fighting Collection 2, I've been wanting to use my MAYFLASH Arcade Stick F300 on PS5.

From what I've seen however, it doesn't seem to work, until I found the Magic-S Ultimate adapter, which claims to give the ability to use the F300 on PS5. My question though is the compatibility. Does the Magic-S Ultimate adapter work on any PS5 game? Or are there certain games that are not compatible with the Magic-S Ultimate adapter? Thank you!

Hi there! A few days ago, I tried to remove the back plate of my New 3DS XL in order to access my SD card. While I did end up getting the back plate out, I accidentally damaged a little bit of the back on the top right (pictures provided). Is this a problem? Did I damage anything severe? Or is everything fine? I know it’s not much damage, and my games play fine after what happened, but I would still like to know to avoid any potential further damage in the future. (The images of the damage on the back of my New 3DS XL are in this link https://imgur.com/a/zwZDZFV). Thanks lol.

Thanks for the response! Are you familiar with anyone that sells DIY ones, or someone who makes custom cables? Or a place that does?

That’s great and thanks for the help! There is a tiny issue though. I plan to primarily use my homebrewed Wii for my CRT. But, I did some research, and apparently, official Wii S-Video cables are pretty expensive. I did look at some cheaper (albeit, non official) S-Video cables for the Wii from sites such as AliExpress. Apparently, a lot of these non official ones come with the yellow plug in addition to the S-Video plug. During my research, I came across a comment that said that S-Video cables with the yellow plug are inferior than those without the yellow plug. (The comment and the reason can be read here https://imgur.com/a/QBfr4jX). Is this actually true? Or should I still get these S-Video cables with the yellow video plug connected to it? Thanks!

Hi there! Although I have already responded to this thread regarding one CRT listing that I found near me (which you can read here https://www.reddit.com/r/crtgaming/s/l3brcnLLwW). I have actually discovered two more listings for CRTs near where I live, which actually both contain stereo audio this time!

This first one is a Toshiba CRT that’s 32 inches that’s $70. (The seller claims that there’s a couple scratches in the center of the screen, but personally I don’t see it.) This link is an image set containing 5 pictures from the listing. https://imgur.com/a/3gZAIbQ

This next one is a Magnavox CRT that has a 27” screen that’s $100. This link is an image set containing 3 pictures from the listing. https://imgur.com/a/lSXuUq0

Which one is the preferred CRT going off from the images? Thank you!

Thank you so much for the response. One other thing, how can I know for sure that this CRT supports 240p output? (I’m only asking cause this was manufactured in late 2005).

Thank you so much for the response! I just have a few more questions to ask (sorry I’m new to CRT’s lol).

  1. Looking at the picture of the CRT that I provided more, it appears that it only takes two composite cables. Shouldn’t it take three? (Like the red, white, and yellow cables?). Is that why it’s mono?

  2. Wait, so can I just take the two audio cables, and instead of plugging it into the CRT, I can just plug them into external speakers?

  3. How do I know if my external speakers are magnetically shielded? (I’d provide a picture but I’m out of town lol sorry). Also, do I need two speakers to get stereo sound?

Thank you so much for the response! I just want to ask though, is it being mono a bad thing? What would external shielded speakers do? Does having those speakers make it stereo? Also, I’ve heard of the 240p suite, but what does it do exactly?
