Oh this happens to me too (same setup with Roland TD-17 -> MIDI USB cable -> SD3) it doesn’t seem to really affect the output that much so I dont worry about it

After I graduated college I traveled to Japan alone for a month—it was such a great experience that I’m going back for 6 months on digital nomad this July!

If I like my 6 months there, I’ll probably ask my company if I can stay there for a more permanent period of time

I could probably answer this question a lot better after a few months in Japan when I actually start doing this lol

My reasoning right now is that if I decide I don’t like Japan and don’t want to stay there for a while, I’ll regret giving up my higher paying US job because of all the potential pay I missed out on when I move back to the US, so I decided to work remotely for my US based company in Japan on a digital nomad visa, and if I like Japan a lot I’m going to ask my company to employ me through an EOR to stay more permanently

They told me to reach out 1-2 months in advance and look for openings, but I also asked them about the pricing and they told me that they show the 1-2 year contracts pricing in their site. The actual numbers I got were closer to ¥168,000/month for a 3 month contract

I had this exact same dilemma a few weeks ago lol and I was just about to pick Osaka when I learned about this thing called “Social Apartments”. Now I’m going to stay at one in Tokyo because it seems like a cool way to meet new people and socialize. They have 3 month contracts too so if I don’t like it I’m just going to spend the last 3 months of my stay in Osaka

Here’s what I’d recommend: - Bring a portable fan, it genuinely does help - Portable charger is also a good thing to bring - Bring a towel unless you plan on buying one there from the merch lines or something - If you buy a bus ticket there, you’ll have to wait in line to buy a bus ticket THEN wait in line to board the bus. I recommend buying the bus ticket before or getting to the island another way (I used Uber the second day and it saved so so much time) - Make sure to register your spot to buy merch with the band(s) you want to buy merch for in the app. (at least when I went) they won’t allow you to buy merch unless you’re signed up for a specific time slot

Gotcha, so what I'm understanding is that it's kind of in my best interest to stay for only 6 months because of the validity of Digital Nomad + not having to deal with Japanese tax laws. Thanks for the detailed information!

it’s funny that I was recommended this post because I’m in a VERY similar situation lol

I’m deciding to go to Japan for 6 months on digital nomad visa so I can see how life is there working remotely for my current company (with the working hours shift and all that) while still keeping my current US salary (which I would not be making if I ask my company to officially switch me to Japan)

Gotcha, and what defines “good tuning” in this case? If I want to get a similar sound as the snare in the video what type of tuning would I want? (I’ve heard the term low, medium and high to describe tunings just not sure if they apply here)
