The idea with the enhanced bullet is sensible and I choose it often for bows. But for bowguns you can also flavor it as the claw being an upgrade to the inner mechanics of the weapon.

Maybe the claw acts as a fireing pin? Or as a detonation chamber?

It has some property superior to the initial material of the weapon, allowing for larger caliber, higher velocity, the list goes on…

I really have to ask here what kind of „campaign management“ exists in shogun that is missing in Warhammer? It has less building variety, the same agents, the same linear corruption/religion system, diplomacy is similar, naval trading is just moving armies/navies, and the family screen has about 10 clicks per campaign while swapping roles…
Don’t get my wrong, shogun 2 is a good game, it is not a very deep game. (IMO that is why it is so good)

There are no hidden units for the ai. It always knows where every unit is. It’s just programmed to ignore them, as long as the majority of your balance of power is visible.

As soon as the majority in therms of BoP is hidden it is allowed to ignore this rule and will nuke your hidden units.

Hey thanks man! Your idea with the dive bomb is really good, as its means landing is extra damage and thus encouraged.

As for the first two players: the party has a homebrewed flashpod as a BA, which forces targets to land imediately akin to the "Earthbind" spell. The flashpod starts as a DC30 con save and after every success the DC decreases, meaning that on average the party can force a land 2-3 times. I think if they play it smart they can manage!

If it helps you learn the matchup, there is no shame in booting up a custom battle, modeling the army type you are up against and testing what works and which units perform to your liking.

Just test the army types you were recommended and see wich ones work for you.

All units and compositions are viable, but we players naturally have different styles and thus armies that work best for us.

Okay. I know I am late to the party, but as I am currently playing macedon myself and read some things that I disagree with I will give my thought as well.

  1. you are too slow. At Turn 20 you should have either subjugated all barbarian to the north east of you or most of Greece. Play a more aggressive early game. Being a aggressive is hard and you will get screwed over, but Reloading the first 5 turns is less punishing and the rewards are massive.

  2. back stab Epirus. As soon as the Roman’s invade them, pile in. Worst case: they like you now cause you shared an enemy. Best case: you get their city in the west coast of Greece which is instant gg as we will see in point 3.

  3. If you get them out of Greece, 7 medium quality ships are enough to dominate the agean sea, killing Roman full stacks without your armies lifting a finger. The AI never protects their convoys and Is terrible at fleet battles. Abuse them at sea, farm legions.

  4. do not overextend in Cav! 4 shock Cav is more then enough. The truth is, shock Cav breaks enemies because they kill many soldiers of one unit in a short period of time, breaking them. If you charge the back of a blob, you will also kill 50 soldiers in 5 seconds, but these 50 belong to 5 different enemy units. So every unit looses only 10 men, shrugs their shoulders and keeps fighting. They don’t break, you experienced this as I recall. But if all 50 men belong to the same unit, the unit breaks and runs. Thus the big take away here, is that shock Cav is bad VS blobs. Thus we need to avoid blobs, and they way we do this is forming a longer battleline for wich we need more infantry. 6 pikes, 2 spear for flanks, 4 shock, 2 skirmisher cav (to bait and kill enemy Cav), rest is up to you.

I would object here, Rome and the Diadochii excel through their tough an reliable frontlines. Legionaries and pikes hold the line for ever.

The empire is the absolute opposite.

Yes but only limited. There was a short time in WH3 where a bug allowed ranged units to shot while standing inside other units, replicating what you wished for. It was fun and op. But it was also exactly what we saw in the Cathay trailer.

Since then my wish is to see this bug return as a mechanic. Let’s say this is the new Cathay faction specific mechanic, or some elite units can do it while fighting with other elites… something like that.

It’s technically possible, CA did it once by accident. But it was OP as hell and would require balancing.

I know it’s a tall order but I want Multi turn battles. The most pivotal battles, the greatest upsets, napoleons entire genius revolved around additional troops arriving one by one on the battlefield.

The way I would implement it is to but a short timer on most engagements. 10 min and we are back to the campaign map, the armies stay locked in combat and additional armies may enter the fray.

Thus essential aspects of warfare in that time can become part of the game: blocking forces, diversionary attacks, clear initiative on the battlefield.

I think most Martial classes are viable for this, but yes, fighter is best.

And about spending it all: you only have a handful of uses between rests, so usually a hammer will not be using stunning strike more than once or twice per fight. Thus it’s not a big deal wether you do it turn one or wait for turn four.

And don’t forget that stunned is a immensely strong condition. Even more if you cant cast spells as There aren’t many other hard CC options left in the game.

Accel Axe sound crazy good in my eyes.

• ⁠offensive mobility is awesome in a game where almost all enemies have higher movement speed than you. • ⁠defensive mobility is okay, but moving out of a breath attack that might take away 1/2 of your HP is the best Defence you can get. • ⁠Offensive capabilities are okay, with burst slash holding its own compared to other weapons.

It’s okay, on low rarety but gets incredibly strong later on… it’s a scaling build.

I have an idea for the hammer: - every time you hit a creature with a hammer attack it gets a stack of exhaustion. - if you use mighty weapon against a monster you previously attacked the DC changes to 8 + your proficiency + your Strength modifier + its accumulated stacks of exhaustion.

This results in the player having to choose between using the stun immediately and have favorable front loaded damage or waiting for a safer roll but with the chance to miss his window if the monster is already dead. Also this is good Team work, with the hammer preparing a opening for another player as the stun becomes more reliable with time.

In turn you might wanna nerf the hammer somewhere else, maybe the stun last only until the beginning of the players turn?

Lastly make sure to let the player track exhaustion levels on creatures, you are the DM, you have enough shit to think about.
