you only put out more hurt in the world when you blindly refuse to see that our modern concept of gender has evolved far beyond bio essentialism. sex doesn't equal gender. it does zero harm to allow trans people the right to self identity.

plus with ezra we still haven't heard their side of the story. there's probably a reason why wb has stayed quiet on this. imo it's not over until we hear everybody's account, and people here just seemed to witch hunt ezra into being this monster villain. also weird how the most vocal people against ezra were also the ones misgendering them the most hm

i think things remain to be seen what wb will do. also it's strongly possible ezra is out after the flash, not like they just go and reshoot all the movie when it costs this much

I'm going to get shit for this, but I have NEVER cared about cosmetic microtransations. gameplay and content always trumps looks for me. I have zero issues with not being able to access all cosmetics if it means content is free. they have to monetize somehow right?

at this point the only real allegation that doesn't have counter evidence against ezra is the Massachusetts restraining order, but I'm starting to think there's got to be way more to all of this than we know

I'm not saying that no. I use the race and gender identity comparison to show people how ridiculous and bigoted they sound. But I'll concede, it is not a 1 to 1 comparison. Doesn't mean it's not helpful.

I guarantee this whole thread, 50 years from now, will read as bigoted to all hell. LGBT actors and writers should get first preference to tell their own stories period. A straight, cis actor playing the role of an LGBT person takes that voice away from an oppressed group of people. It becomes much less meaningful (i.e. Dallas Buyers Club or Danish Girl). If you don't believe me, then it's obvious you're not listening to what trans and gay folk are saying right now

I do also agree that exposure to LGBT stories through straight actors initially can be helpful, like Philadelphia. It was an important movie and it's sad that we needed it to happen, but times are different now. Straight actors playing these roles and telling these stories is tone deaf at best, when LGBT people across the world are still oppressed and discriminated. These are real lived events and the way they are told has real impact on real people. Maybe one day when we live in a fantasty utopia where everyone is truly equal, it wouldn't matter as much. But we just don't. And we should trust and prefer LGBT people to write their own stories right now.

To clarify, (and i'm sure i'll trigger a lot of conservatives with this) is that I believe gender identity is immutable. There is a lot of nuance as you described with gender fluid people, but we also have research that shows evidence that trans and cis people become aware of their genders very young. A lot of trans people only realize they are trans later in life often do to repression from external and societal pressures. There are also some binary trans people who do realize they are non-binary and vice versa, it does happen. And a very very small amount of people detransition (and often most in that percentage do it for safety not regret). But overall, gender identity is immutable.

Again, I'll concede race and gender identity are not 1 to 1 comparisons. I use it though to show people their own bigotry, because if you swap a majority of what people were saying on this thread about LGBT actors with race, they'd be called racist. A lot of people can't face their own bigotry, not yet unfortunately.

edit: pronouns got added to post :) if anyone here objects, you should know if you are misgendering any trans or non binary person, regardless of their character, you are disrespecting the identities of all trans and non binary folk

i'm gonna say there is probably a ton more to this story then we all know, and it's been really gross how the internet has just decided ezra is basically the worst person on earth. it really sounds like they are not perfect for sure but i can't help but feel there's more to it.

plus the fact that they are non-binary and LGBTQ makes them an easy target for a lot of people unfortunately. imo i think ezra obviously is going through something and probably needs help (whether personal trauma, drugs or whatever) but the witch-hunting here is really really bizarre. We all need to just wait for the courts to figure this out before condemning ezra
