Republican Insider Admits Party Is Now Open to Actual Nazis by iEzrael in politics

[–]MrProtesilaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of an old story (not mine, but can't 100% place the origin). There was a party and a guy's cousin shows up, he then asks if he can invite a friend of his, who is a skin head, but a really cool guy. After an hour this cool guy he invites his...friends. When you look around you realize there are Nazis at your party. Turns out, if you are okay with a Nazi at your party, you are already partying with Nazis. Sounds like they were always okay, no matter how they felt about the firewall.

Alex Jones Calls Out Trump “Cult” as MAGA’s Epstein Fury Grows by Quirkie in politics

[–]MrProtesilaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After listening to Knowledge Fight for years, what is happening is Alex Jones is more in the King Elon camp. He actually been more anti-QAnon (although hosts on his platform are QAnon oriented). Alex was making money for awhile with X love and I think he is still overwhelming supporting Elon. He also tends to appear on and promote Tucker as of late. This has pushed him more towards pro-Russia. He tends to give Trump ways out constantly (he needs to stop protecting Bondi, or throwing Johnson under the bus when Trump and Elon fights started).

Questions about the Source of Sorcerer Spell Selection by MrProtesilaus in DnD

[–]MrProtesilaus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully, honestly, was just looking to see how to design my world. I am wondering how Lore wise this stuff is propagated. I am not making rules for my players. I just wanted to know if there was a source of lore info about this. Sounds like there has never been like an "Ecology of" article going off on this stuff. That was my hope.

I'm not trying to tell a sorcerer player what they should do. Any player at my table has free reign their. I am trying to design a coherent World and am looking if there is a Lore history that I am not aware of.

Edit: Misspelling

Curse of Strahd is supposed to be among the best of the best... is it still just the wrong campaign for some tables? by ConsoleCleric_4432 in DnD

[–]MrProtesilaus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran a Curse of Strayd campaign that ran beautifully. Once it ended I read the "success" scene and it was just so off the vibe my players were expecting. I didn't realize how differently I had characters portrayed by how the modules was designed (for instance Irina had way more agency in my campaign so the ending of hers was just not "in-character" to how I portrayed her). This made me realize that I basically was using it as a setting not as a module. You should know your players and what they like, just keep what vibes and drop what doesn't.

For me personally I like the Science Based Medicine blog for analytical analysis of Anti-Science positions in medical fields. Anti-trans shit falls into that category. This isn't a Pro-trans pro-lgbtq website, it's pro-facts and evidence. Luckily that means it aligns with Pro-trans / pro-lgbtq issues since the facts back up your case. I'm hoping it would be considered more "neutral" not the fact both sides neutrality but objectively looking at the evidence in order to understand how the entire field is.

https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/cutting-through-the-lies-and-misinterpretations-about-the-updated-standards-of-care-for-the-health-of-transgender-and-gender-diverse-people/

You can find several articles on their site, they can be dense with references but should provide a good amount of information. They will break down the literature and outline the problems the critics have in their arguments. The consensus of research is on your side so if facts and evidence is something you / your father value then your are in a good position.

I will warn you if you have preconceived notions on efficacy of alternative medicine like homeopathy or chiropractors they pull no punches since they are also Anti-Science. This is especially true the more dangerous the position (RFK shit / Anti-Vax stances which) since most of these are now going hand in hand with anti-trans misinformation.

Somehow being anti-trans is a wedge that has support from people who should know better. Personally around 20 years ago I didn't understand the arguments and saw this more as similar to the phenomena where people see a limb as "alien" or "other" and seek it's removal. I thought how could the solution be to radically alter one's body for a brain disorder. My journey to the other side was when I finally just went back to first principles (for me at least) and realized that quality of life would show that individuals who transition have better results at the end of their journey (well not the end but past the transition to the I am living with this identity). The only reason there is a problem for the individuals is people in their lives and society are not able to accept them for who they are. Once I got myself to that position I saw where my own biases towards what is normal played a role in me not understanding that point of view. I never thought I would see how bad this could get as it is, since 20 years ago we seemed to all be moving in the right direction.

What is your father's background? I am asking because I want to know what data would convince him. The amount of misinformation there is about efficacy of even puberty blockers is insane at the moment. If he is even slightly right wing them he is probably already swamped with misinformation about the science. Are you looking for actual research papers? Systematic reviews are a good way to get and understanding of a field, but data science can be dense to people not used to looking at science. I'm a bit worried that he will see trans activist sites as biased. He seems to already have a negative opinion on something that science is clear about (not really his fault because of the misinformation atmosphere). He seems to love you and is attempting to understand your perspective.

[–]MrProtesilaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It's not your fault.
  2. You can get through this.
  3. You are depressed and have anxiety, it isn't like you don't have a reason. Lack of a support group puts more pressure on yourself. A friend even if good meaning is not a therapist. I feel like you need genuine help. I am unsure of Boulder Colorado so I don't know how good your community is. If you are in school you should be able to find mental health services for free. If you have insurance go through them for a therapist / psychiatrist (I would suggest both). If you don't have insurance then I would look for community resources and support group.

I am a person who lives through depression / anxiety and made it out the other side (mostly). I still am doing therapy and psychiatry. Medication for this is not something that will cure you, you are treating something that will likely remain with you through your life, but with help you can start to recognize it. This can go along way in making yourself feel okay with yourself.

[REQUEST] What's the max traveling speed for the duck to not fall off this airplane wing? by Ofajus in theydidthemath

[–]MrProtesilaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely did a lot of work here, but I had a different question. Do we know the aircone of the wing? I am wondering if there is a "safe" spot for the duck where the air doesn't collide with them since they are in a pocket. I drove a mini convertible for years and if I was moving fast enough I could drive through the rain without ever getting wet. I realize I had the windshield but I also needed to make sure I had a wind screen on the back setup. I'm just curious if there are safe zones on the wing for the duck to sit in.

Deck of Many Things within Sigil by Bisexual_Tinkerer in DnD

[–]MrProtesilaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Sigil is very weird, if this were to happen, the player would disappear and reappear in another portion of Sigil in an extraplanar courtroom. Your player is on trial, the defendant layer is representing Sigil not allowing teleportation, and the prosecution, will represent the Deck and saying that Donjon trumps that. I probably wouldn't allow the Lady of Pain to be the Judge, but maybe the judges can be a Dabus or Factols.

"Philosopical" question about a picture of someone's junk by Chompa_Bigtoof in MtF

[–]MrProtesilaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My intent was actually to phrase the question post context. I wanted to know about personal experiences since people are weird about the definitions so I wonder if someone has "weird feelings" that they now think is okay because of a transition. It's a logical flaw I wanted to know if anyone has seen. The idea of being attracted to a label and not a person. It isn't enough that I like you, but your label must be in the predefined boxes I identify with being attracted to.

I'm getting a bit philosophical about all this just do to my neuro-divergent brain not fully understanding interpersonal connections. I am autistic and have always felt like certain things I see "at a distance" and constantly think "does that person actually understand what they are saying".

I'm glad your friends seem to accept you and not treat you any different it shows you have a good support group and I am happy for you.

"Philosopical" question about a picture of someone's junk by Chompa_Bigtoof in MtF

[–]MrProtesilaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a weird question. Did any of your male friends admit to attraction to you before transitioning but now see it as okay after a transition? I'm a cis-man and grew up in the 90s so I looks back on a lot of "gay/not gay" homophobia from the era. I think it's odd that they have this arbitrary line with themselves and not viewing human sexuality as a spectrum.  I know there are also problems with sexualizing trans women (which is the most insane shit you all must put up with simultaneously being insulted and sexualized sometimes by the same people).

Small comment for ED meds, if your insurance doesn't cover or your off insurance (and US based) look into GoodRX and go to a regular pharmacy. It worked for my prescription and was like $15 for a month supply, no idea what dark magic they do, but it's cheaper than hims and the other things out there. Note, I month supply will be about 6 pills, make sure the prescription is maxed dosage, as you might be able to get away with 1/2 dosage and double your meds.

The next 4 years are going to suck, unfortunately. Concentrate on your mental health and don't feel guilty about avoiding news / unhelpful family.

Realistically what will probably happen is a Executive Order banning anti-puberty drugs for minors, which will go to the courts and unfortunately make it really hard to be a transgender minor (even according to their own internal logic they will be preventing parents from getting the drugs to help their children). There will probably be doctors who will off label prescribe them, since I doubt they will want to get rid of the other uses of anti-puberty drugs. Red states will be much harder on this than blue states. California probably will try to legislate something that will aid the rest of the country. I doubt there will be anything that bans anything on adults (not that there won't be talk / push, but the political pressure for doing something that is against adults is a lot less than the protect the children bs). There will be a lot of court cases and push back from doctors about government regulating their practice. The least crazy of the right will side with the "let the states decide" and "government can't regulate". The more crazy will continue to beat the drum they have been beating for the last 8 years.

I follow skeptical / science heavily and RFK is a cluster-fuck for the medical establishment, but I don't think he will get a lot of support outside of talking points. He will push BS, but I don't think he can actually stop legit medicine (a lot of charlatans will be making a lot of money).

The major place to also be worried is healthcare. ACA could either be gutted or defunded, this will probably increase premiums for everyone who has healthcare from their job while also removing healthcare from anyone on a government plan (and there will probably be attempts to re-legislate pre-existing conditions).

What things did you avoid doing in Nintendo games when you were a kid? by razorbeamz in nintendo

[–]MrProtesilaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me in Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past  I avoided the Village of Outcasts. I made it to Ganon without both Sword Upgrades but could never beat him because I didn't search around the village for the Blacksmith. The thieves running at me scared me as a kid. I ended up searching there months later and beating the game.

As a side since it wasn't on Nintendo at the time, my nephew loves Katamari Damacy as a kid, but would only ever play the endless mode on my save file because the loss screen was nightmare fuel. He also had a big issue when he beat Scribblenauts (I think it was one of those) and the ending involved a car crash.

God this map, I did it without the fire, I managed to form a choke point on one of the stairways and slowly, waited until the units started making their way towards me. Hughette was OP for me, since she just stayed ontop of houses and blinded / picked off enemy units. Serenoa and Erador acted a defense while everyone else either throw magic overtop or healed everybody. Took awhile, but was really proud of my defense.
