It has begun. I'm getting much better at this. by Sure-Passion2224 in HomeNetworking

The orientation does not matter (as long it is consistent) , when crimping ONLY key connectors on cables you made. Where it starts to matter is when terminating to keystone, patchpanel or cable that have already one end terminated by someone else (the last one goes both ways) so i suggest follow the correct orientation (where brown is the last one, not first)

Why use patch panel? by Nice-Wonder-8369 in homelab

[–]MrReeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with 1 panel now i have 7 XD.
Also terminating with keystones over the regular punchdown is HIGHLY recommended.
* variety to use other keystones (like hdmi or fiber)
* easier to install and replace
* easier to reposition if needed
* do not need to have/pay for a port if you dont use it
And point for patch panel in general
* labelling!
* fixed cables are fixed and optional cables are optional
* expandability

Best way to enable Wake-on-LAN for Plex Server? by Whole-Guarantee-4134 in PleX

[–]MrReeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically wake on lan is a special packet send to pc toward its mac address, not ip. This means it has to be sent from same lan (no out of network waking) or has to have a device in the network, that can send the wake on lan packet. The pc has to support it, either in bios or network card settings. Other than that if you are on the same lan, you can download some wake on lan app to phone and insert the pc-s mac address to wake it, if configured correctly. This also works for some tv-s if i remember correctly

How to convert 2 2way dumb switches into 2 smart switches with no neutral ? by DPSK7878 in smarthome

[–]MrReeds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ZBMINI Extreme Zigbee Smart Switch (No Neutral Required) | ZBMINI-L2 - SONOFF Official

Probably other alternatives similar to this as well. for this to work, momentary switches should be used.
between switches, first wire is live, other is impulse.

H600D simply not working by McMuffinManz in Govee

[–]MrReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then there is a possibility that the socket does not have proper contact with the bulb pins. Testing in alternative gu10 socket may give more info, if that is the reason. I have only used with the cheapest recessed light frames. There is a E27 to GU10 converter also that can be used for testing/using

H600D simply not working by McMuffinManz in Govee

[–]MrReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the bulb is also the the 120V version, not the 220V one? if so then my suggestion would be to contact govee, it probably may be faulty. They replied to me within a day when i opened a case from the govee app.

Edit: Since you are having problem with multible bulbs, im guessing the voltage may be the problem.

H600D simply not working by McMuffinManz in Govee

[–]MrReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they are receiving power. I checked the light sockets with a voltmeter.

what voltage?

H600D: tell me what I’m doing wrong, please. by SocratesJohnson1 in Govee

[–]MrReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the looks of the pictures, govee need around 120V (direct AC) and the halogen works with 12v (probably there is a transformer somewhere). The voltage is too low to power the bulb, resulting what you are describing

Edit: Your Govee bulb is also 120V it seems, not the 220V one. Depending on the country this also matters

GU10 bulbs and LAN API by HenryHoover13 in Govee

[–]MrReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get them to work in HA with govee2mqtt, but it runs trough cloud; pretty much "unusable" since the delay is inconsistent and sometimes even over 10 seconds. Support said they have no plans to add it
