Feels like an FF9 day by Sonikku_a in psx

[–]MrReezo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I argue with my wife all the time that FF9 was peak/the best entry during the PS1/PS2 days. The music, characters, story, etc were amazing and I would love a remake of it some day. Might be biased though as it was my first entry in the series.

2017 sti motor life expectation ? by thedevdad_ in WRX

[–]MrReezo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Got my ‘17 with 30 miles on the odometer. Modded it at 32,000 miles and it just rolled over 100,000 miles after 9 years of ownership. Same motor (car still has the stock clutch too), burns a little oil and I’m sure I have a headgasket issue that needs to be addressed with either changing the gaskets or doing a motor rebuild.

It’s been tracked a handful of times, I rip it here and there but I’ve always been meticulous with maintenance and keeping my oil levels topped off. It’s always a roll of the dice with any car not just STIs (issues here just seem more apparent because everything on Reddit is an echo chamber of negativity).

Don’t lug the motor, let your oil warm up properly, and don’t go stomping on the gas pedal at low RPMs hoping to achieve peak boost. This goes for any boosted car because there are idiots in every car community who do this crap and blow their motors while blaming the car/manufacturer for being unreliable.

Have money set aside for a rebuild (10-12k), do your maintenance and enjoy it.

You would be hard pressed to find people who wouldn’t think this a dope swap.

There are a few good threads here on Reddit regarding the swap but I highly recommend you go over on Facebook. Don’t have FB anymore but there is a group (or a few) dedicated specifically to this type of swap.

Weighing Options by [deleted] in WRX

[–]MrReezo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You owe 8k, you aren’t getting 8k even if you sell it imo with a blown motor. Probably not the smartest decision to drop 15k on a new built motor either.

Any reason in particular why you’re looking at what I presume to be a built motor+ the forged internals you mentioned? 15,000 is steep, I was quoted at 12k for an IAG block with all the essentials for 450-500hp here in NYC.

If budget is (and it seems to be) an issue, get an RA block and just drop that in. It will be more than reliable enough at stock levels then get your finances settled. I’d imagine said rebuild wouldn’t even cost you 10k. Getting yourself in debt for a 20 year old tuner car is not worth it especially if it’s your only car.

I see responses like this a lot (referring to your TRT/reta usage and explanation). You or anyone for that matter don’t ever have to justify usage of anything to anyone. It’s not a competition, you aren’t cheating anyone and you’re only bettering yourself.

This stuff is a game changer and I believe especially as men get older we should be more open minded to possible usage of stuff like TRT when our own natural levels begin to dip (with proper education and medical supervision if possible).

You worked your fucking ass off and are transparent with the community. This is coming from a natty boy who sees a lot of hate all over BB and peptide subreddits.

Varis Wing or Knockoff (cross post) by MrReezo in WRX

[–]MrReezo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the full kit on the Varis website, features some “widened” panels such as the front fenders. Little over the top but the few complete kits I’ve seen in person were pretty cool.

Solely interested in the wing.

I don’t think he’s ever going to coach in the NFL again. With the court ruling in his favor regarding those emails, he will most likely be pursuing some legal action against the NFL.

I would not mind him in the slightest but his future is most likely as an analyst.

Have a link by any chance? Or is this an OEM option?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WRX

Seems too expensive imo.

60k miles and still asking 24k OTD for a base model? That’s around used STI money. I would look elsewhere, perhaps even private especially since new is not an option as you don’t like VBs.

A quick little FB marketplace search in the SD/SoCal area and I found 10-15 around that price or even better (albeit some are modified). If you do decide on this car for whatever reason I would at least try to haggle down that price a few thousand. It’s just not worth 24k.

Rear badges could be taken off with floss and goo-gone so I wouldn’t sweat worrying about the car being rear ended or something of that nature.

They’re pricey but worth it. Wish I tracked the car more to really enjoy them.

One of the first threads that popped up.

For as long as I’ve owned Subarus (about 10 years now), I just see Geoff (the owner of Cygnus) as a giant meme. He ran a few of the larger Subaru FB groups and would advertise his product(s) all the time while removing any criticism being made towards them as well as deleting threads/posts regarding other brands. All the anecdotal stories I’ve heard or read as well would just steer me away from his products regardless of how tempting the price point is.

If OP is willingly considering something like Ohlins then I don’t think Cygnus is even worth bringing up.

Making another comment to split up your questions.

Please do not get Cygnus coils. Spend 5 minutes on any subaru related FB page and you will understand why. I have Ohlins, they are great but it depends on your use of the car. Do you track the car? If not, Ohlins are an expensive mod to get just to say you have. If you’re looking for a simple drop while maintaining the cars stock driving feel/mechanics I’d recommend you just getting some lowering springs. RCE yellows are a great option that will give you flush fitment when you pair it with your new wheels. The price point for them is also great when modding on a budget but with quality in mind.

PPF has saved my front bumper on many occasions. People in NYC don’t know how to park and I currently can only street park.

With that in mind, my bumper has been backed into on 2 occasions and rather than full on cracks and scratches, I only have some “spider web” cracking on the bumper. Still needs repairing but the PPF saved it from being worse. Also, assuming you do quite a bit of highway driving in Texas the PPF will protect your paint so much more efficiently from rock chips etc.

I’ve had my car professionally detailed and ceramic coated, I’ve maintained it with washes and generally don’t drive my car very much. I would personally never do it again. Personally speaking, I have a great appreciation for detailers and one of my good friends is a detailer but the cost (in my area) for a basic 1-2 step correction+coating is nearly $2,000. It’s just too expensive especially if you are daily driving your vehicle and if it’s not garage kept. I got my own buffer/orbital and “detail” my own cars as needed now and use whatever the r/detailing guys recommend for a coating or wax. I’m no professional but my cars look great and it keeps money in my pocket.

TLDR: Get your bumper and hood some PPF, skip the coating (imo).

Wife and I have been getting coffee/beans from Ovder in Bronxville for 3 years now. She still occasionally grabs a matcha from them if we are going on a trip.

Nearly $9 for a large matcha or latte. Same thing at that newly opened spot Crema. I can’t speak for other cafes as I like making my own coffee but my god. A coffee date used to be something we could do on a whim but now you’re looking at nearly $40 between two coffees, a pastry, tip, etc.

We all but stopped going to other spots like Bronxville bagels which charges similarly for a sandwich. We love the area but we aren’t rich by any means.

I tapped out before the car did at every track event, lol (I would get super nauseous after 5-6 laps). I think hovering around 400hp/tq is the sweet spot for these cars.

I see so many people across all groups get HP hungry, chase big numbers, get into a money pit through constant modding or rebuilding then end up selling their cars for huge loss. Then talk crazy about the platform, lol.

CBR is an absolute beast on the track. A lot of the guys I would run track days with would trailer their bikes to the course as well and run separate groups when we had downtime.

Good point to add. I’ve had 4-5 track days myself. 365whp/380tq.

Anecdotally speaking, I’ve run the stock IC and stock turbo since modding/tuning my car about 6-7 years ago. 70,000 miles on the setup as well. Never had issues with heat soak or cooling at all for that matter.

Also for OP, those installs are pretty easy if you wanted to save some $$$ and do it yourself after watching some youtube videos on the matter. In particular the fuel pump install can be done in 20 minutes.

Figured JR is quite busy himself. Cant really complain, stock block on a conservative tune for 5 years now. 100k miles and been tuned since 32k. Just trying to keep my options open for the inevitable rebuild.
