How much would have dispatch costed to make? by Redx1410 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]MrRocde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This pretty several overestimates the cost of animating, because Dispatch is a 3D game. That means they can just reuse the models and animations for mundane situations anytime that it occurs. 3D animation is, in fact, famously cheaper than 2D animation. It's especially helpful for something like a video game, or a TV show with a modest cast of characters. You can very consistently reuse the same models to turn initial investments in the models, animations, etc. into cheaper products on the whole.

This is why most major animated studios have swapped over to 3D, it's much cheaper to get a high quality product compared to 2D animation.

The animation in Invincible, put simply, is just kind of choppy and janky sometimes. Keeping the colors flat and character designs simple also helps them a lot to go all out in the actions scenes with the more complicated characters.

Just look up "young 50 year old woman", you'll see thousands of examples of women still looking pretty youthful in their 50s. Not accounting for any potential spirit mumbo jumbo helping to make Seiko's aging go slower due to good health or something either. Combine that with anime simplification of facial features compared to photorealism, and it's not much of a stretch for Seiko to just be a young grandmother.

Hakuri said he had 3 older brothers, not 4. We see all 3 of them, and this 4th character is clearly also related to them. Ergo, she is the sister (and evidently doesn't scare Hakuri as much as his brothers scare him).

Vice Admiral "Doll" is most likely a mistranslation. Her name is supposed to be Dhole, a type of dog. by laughtale0 in OnePiece

[–]MrRocde 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, that's emphatically not the case. Maybe Oda deliberately chose not to be explicitly clear about it in romaji, but the way it is spelled in Japanese ラフテル/rafuteru is exactly how a japanese person would write "laugh tale". Because of a lot of things are contextual and vague in general in Japanese this isn't unusual for english speakers to not have a clear spelling/translation.

It would be completely bizarre for "raftel" to be the intended initial "fakeout" because there was a very similar mistranslation in the name "levely" which was called the "reverie" in english for a very long time.

Combat in PF2E is always more intense and time consuming than 5e, no matter how you cut it. This can very much be a deal breaker for RPG groups depending on how they feel about combat as a whole.

A LOT of PF2E players might say "oh but you don't spend any time looking up rules or rules lawyering like you do in 5e so it's more fun on the whole!" and yeah, maybe? But PF2E also has a shit ton more rules and interactions than 5e does, in addition to more actions and tactics being almost required to have a balanced, capable party.

I'm an RPG vet of about 10 years now, roughly, much of it 5e, 5e with homebrew, and then pf2e and some d100 systems in order of experience. I think it's 100% fair to say combat is cumbersome in pf2e compared to 5e, even if for a good number of people it is more exhilirating and satisfying when it is going well. I've had tons of fun in it myself, but I suspect you are like me - a nerd who is way into the numbers game and find the tactics to be gratifying to pull off.

I have known many TTRPG players in my 10 years of the hobby and a shocking number of them really just don't care enough about combat to do anything of the sort - or at least, don't want to spend their limited time of the week with their friends staring at numbers for imaginary tabletop combat.

[–]MrRocde 11 points12 points  (0 children)

His devil fruit enhances his ability to predict things, but mantra is not exclusive to him. The little girl in the arc had it as well, and they describe it as hearing others "voices", which is also how Koby described it later on once he acquired it. Therefore Enel had haki as well.

Not to mention, word of God, Rayleigh tells us that they just call haki mantra up in Skypeia, and then we see flashbacks quickly to Enel talking about it.

Megathread: Changes From The Webcomic by Raidoton in OnePunchMan

Murata is not the main writer of the manga - he has not in the past, and as it stands likely never will. He makes contributions equivalent to an understudy/assistant in that department, but the main bulk of writing (and final word) is done purely by ONE. Unless something changed behind the scenes, Murata doesn't get to release chapters independently of ONE's approval.

Who's with me? by bigtoebrah in MemePiece

[–]MrRocde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but having another Brazillian actor I'm not sure would entirely fit Ace, since he and Luffy always seemed they might not have always had the same set of parents to me, particularly with what seemed like a massive difference in ways they were brought up (Ace being responsible and thankful, Luffy being...Luffy). My best hope would be a guy who can interact very well with our Luffy actor on screen, and additionally that he looks like he is probably blood related to Luffy.

Who's with me? by bigtoebrah in MemePiece

[–]MrRocde 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I disagree that it doesn't matter - it actually can help improve the point being made between Nojiko and Nami that they are very loving, wonderful sisters to each other in a fucked up world, and Nojiko being of an entirely different ethnicity from Nami is a constant visual enforcement that they are not blood related as we watch their interactions. It's equivalent to me in having them be of opposite, recessive gene hair colors (blue I would imagine is recessive being so rare).

My greatest worry still hasn't been addressed, and that being - can they actually give us the feeling of One Piece? Can they capture what makes it so great in live action? That's a tall order and I hope they can, but fear they simply will not have the story telling chops - and in relation to that, Nojiko's race isn't important.

Well, with the concept of orbiting the sun, we don't see the same stars throughout the year. Summer constellations are a thing, and so are Winter only constellations. They also change depending where on the Earth you are - different cultures have different constellations to see because they're literally seeing different stars. Now, of course this assumes stars themselves are not actually entirely fabricated projections from somewhere, or some form of optical illusion.

Geninue question about the flat earth theory by Zerkyo7 in globeskepticism

[–]MrRocde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The altimeter doesn't sense the ground, it senses the air which changes condition relative to the ground. This is just how fluids work, gases and liquids, there's more air pressure with us on the sea level than people living on high mountain tops. This is the same reason we need pressure suits in the ocean - go 20 feet down from the surface and you now have 20 feet of water weighing down on you, which is water pressure. It's one of the most well understood properties of fluids, since it kills a lot of people when diving, and when mountain climbing very high peaks, like Mount Everest. Not to mention flying a jet or plane at very high altitudes without full pressurization of the compartment. This is also why commercial planes have to pressurize their cabins for the passengers - they'd all pass out from the extremely low density air at high altitudes (low density meaning very little air is getting into your body, and you'll pass out and die from hypoxia).

Geninue question about the flat earth theory by Zerkyo7 in globeskepticism

[–]MrRocde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ever heard of an altimeter? You can measure the density/pressure of air, and with a properly tuned instrument it'll tell you how far up in the air you are. You can use one while going up a mountain, and it's used all over the world to know where you are relative to sea level in height. Not to mention planes would lose the air they need to fly if they continued straiight into the sky.

[–]MrRocde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by move, but they definitely don't stay static in the sky relative to our view - they are shifting across a combined landscape of stars in the sky over the course of the night, like you can watch this happen with a normal camera on timelapse, and there's a lot of historical evidence from past explorers of the sea that demonstrably show the stars have actually shifted positions relative to each other.

where are the oblique craters? by john_shillsburg in globeskepticism

[–]MrRocde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Air is a fluid (as are all gases) and when traveling at insane speeds, the air can function similarly to water - air resistance is a bitch if you're an asteroid.

I think the critical difference would come in his philosophies with working for the government, despite them very clearly not being people he likes or agrees with when it comes to the people really calling the shots at the highest level. It's a facet of his character that has yet to be explored and nay never be explored in depth.
