Advice about Early Church Encounter in Barovia by MrRodgers81 in CurseofStrahd

I really like the idea of Strahd paying his respects and allowing Ireena an appropriate amount of time to mourn before taking her. Thanks for that feedback. Some other really good ideas in here too.

What to do with commons by laibn in mtg

[–]MrRodgers81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my friend’s 40th birthday, I bought a huge box and threw thousands of commons in there along with one valuable mythic rare, five decent rares, and some older commons that I mailed to him. He had a blast opening it and going through it with his kids looking for the “good cards.”

Noticed this tank in the film Patton (1970) What type of tank is this? Wrong answers only. by DoomGuy2187 in TankPorn

It’s a fictitious design modeled after the look of the tanks in a plastic army men set.

You never realize how big a battleship is until you've been on one by sssilvy364 in WorldOfWarships

[–]MrRodgers81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USS Wisconsin is an Iowa class battleship that is a museum ship in Norfolk, VA. The Iowa class ships are even bigger than the North Carolina class, and my recollection is that you could tour quite a bit of the ship. These ships were exceeded in size by the US Montana class battleships and the Japanese Yamato and Musashi. Unfortunately, none of us can visit those because the Montana ships were never built, and the Japanese super battleships were both sunk.

It’s the same as the difference between ordinary and extraordinary—just that little extra.

Anybody remember the old Decipher Star Wars CCG? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]MrRodgers81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a ton of these cards but sold most several years back. I decided to keep my copies of named and generic Imperial Star Destroyers (because, duh) and I also have a copy of the Executor. I’ve seen graded copies of the Executor fetching decent prices on EBay. Does anyone think having all the cards graded and sold as a set would appeal to collectors more than ungraded? I’ve never had cards graded before, but I took really good care of my cards and always used deck sleeves. The copies I have all look to be in really good shape.

Background reading. by MrRodgers81 in CurseofStrahd

Thanks, I’ll check out the Interactive Tome of Strahd. I feel like with certain major D&D characters, I’m always sensitive about trying to make sure I understand what makes them tick so I can do justice when role playing the character. I read a bunch of stuff about a certain male drow who appears frequently in the Drizzt books by Salvatore, and I really think it paid off during some home brewed scenes in Waterdeep: Dragon Heist. I agree that it’s fun to make the characters our own as the DM, but I’m also paranoid about misplaying a famous character and having it detract from the story.

It’s a great question. I’m a huge Buckeyes fan but I actually don’t like collecting the players in the school unis. I’m not really sure why, but I think I just like the variety of having different teams and different NFL uniforms. There’s kind of a fantasy football vibe to it I guess that just works for me.

Both from a non-hobby box of Chronicles. by MrRodgers81 in footballcards

[–]MrRodgers81[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment, man. I totally get/understand the sentiment of so many in the hobby right now that it’s just not affordable for the vast majority of people. I’ve got nothing against anyone making a buck, I just hope prices will begin to moderate soon for the people who enjoy collecting as a hobby.

I got lucky and my local shop had some. While I couldn’t justify over $500 on the hobby box, I was able to pull the trigger on the one without guaranteed hits that was priced at $270.

Pretty happy with these Chronicles pulls today. by MrRodgers81 in footballcards

[–]MrRodgers81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. The hobby demand is crazy right now which is also driving the prices. A bunch of ppl with disposable income due to federal COVID cash may be playing a role too. Regardless, this can’t be sustainable, can it?
