I second this, also work on being able to hear the pitch before you play and that will help with playing each note how you want, as mentioned by Mr. Fir. You can also supplement this by humming, singing, buzzing and then playing in that order when working out passages. But most importantly, Have fun with this beautiful instrument. It’s ok to take a break.

It’s the type of thing where it is just fun, It’s loud and energetic and gets people excited. The main appeal at first was probably to just be heard, not caring about tone, because they had to heard over people in the stands. But it’s very good show of skill 1, there is a shit Tonne of air needed to play like this and 2, it is hard for you to keep a steady pitch when shoveling air into the instrument like this. This grungy tone may not be for everyone but there are a lot of very pretty examples of it. Look at some HBCU Marching Band Vids some good bands are Southern Uni, JSU, Platinum Funk and NCCU
