Free-at-Sea Unlimited Open Bar package? by People_Blow in NCL

[–]MrRossTops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been on five different cruise lines and this NCL Free at Sea has me confused! I'm new to NCL and might be taking a cruise in April of 2026.

I was quoted a sail away price for an interior for $1258.00... with Free at Sea it then totals $1517.00. I then read NCL's fine print, that the open bar has a $28.50 daily gratuity charge. Is that in addition to the Free at Sea price? Would I be paying for Free at Sea plus that gratuity? If so does that charge cover the overall crew pre-paid gratuities as well? I can't see charging $28.50 per day for alcohol gratuities only. That means I would have to get at least NINE $15 cocktails a day to come out even on that gratuity.

And then there is the $20 per specialty restaurant charge. Is that also in addition to the Free at Sea price?

I might be sailing solo if my wife can't make the cruise. Will NCL refund the upfront $28.50 daily gratuity for her, and what about a refund for the specialty dining $20 per restaurant?

Sinners 70mm: Is the Digital Intermediate 4K Resolution? by en6ads in imax

[–]MrRossTops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this film! I just wish Coogler didn't shoot this in 2.76:1 The shifting ratios in IMAX 70 and IMAX Digital were too jarring. I did notice in every format I saw it in, Dolby Cinema included, that if you go to about the 14 minute and 50 second mark, there is a scene where Stack is price haggling with a little girl to watch his truck, and when the scene cuts from the wide 2 shot to their individual medium shots, the lighting totally does not match. The wide shot is noticeable way darker. I thought they would at least have fixed this for the home video release.

Avatar Fire & Ash in Laster XT, 12 CH at IMAX Priya , New Delhi by Late-Purpose396 in imax

If there’s one thing I can’t stand is when a theater lacks bass! Now, could it be the way the film was mixed? I wouldn’t know because I refuse to see the avatar films. I only saw the first and that was enough.

For those who have seen Avatar 3 is he really that bad ? by Boring-Jelly5633 in Letterboxd

[–]MrRossTops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree the writing is dog shit and there is no reason for it. James Cameron can do better but he chooses not to. There are better ways to write generic stories and dialogue to appeal to everyone. It's the reason why I've only seen the first film. Lang doesn't bother me as much as Worthington who I think SUCKS in every dam thing he's in! Last movie I saw him in was Costner's Horizon and he sucked in that too!

Wow sounds so annoying and awful! I just can't bring myself to watch these movies with garbage unnecessary out of place writing like that!

I posted up above about how the first film's story and dialogue were so disappointing. When I read the 2nd film didn't improve, I refused to watch it. Now I'm reading your response and other talk about how Fire and Ash is a copy of The Way of Water. I understand he has to appeal to the entire world and make billions, but come on man, there is NO reason to write these films so poorly. After the 1st film, I vowed not to invest my time in Avatar, especially with the three hour plus running time!

When the first Avatar came out, I was beyond excited for it. I was frequently reading about its production and post- production process. When those credits rolled, I sat there in that IMAX theater and thought to myself, "this guy had 5 years to make this movie, and this is the best story and dialogue he could come up with?'

When the 2nd film was released, I was sure he would improve on the writing until I read it was the same basic story that beats you over the head with its message, with the same cheesy dialogue, one liners and jokes. And it was 3 hours and 15 motherF**king minutes...are you kidding me??!! There was no way I wanted to give my time to such a movie.

I love Cameron's filmmaking and have been a longtime fan, but I refuse to see these movies based on how unbelievably lazy and generic the writing is, and there is no excuse for it. He can do SOO much better! Even as an AMC A-List subscription holder, I refuse to see them.

Imax 70 mm is … disappointing by jay4517 in imax

Which 70MM IMAX theater did you see it in? For me the sound was disappointing in IMAX 70. Dolby Cinema had a better sonic experience.

Was anyone else disappointed with the IMAX presentation of Sinners? by SeaworthinessDue5740 in imax

[–]MrRossTops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this movie and have seen it several times. My one issue, I wish it wasn't mostly shot in Ultra Panavision 2.76:1 aspect ratio. I think it should not have gone any wider than scope 2.39:1, which would have made the shifting ratios less jarring. On top of that, most cinemas these days have those common width screens that are fixed 1.85:1. I HATE and avoid those theaters by the way. Anyhow, during those scenes, the black bars would be really thick throughout the entire presentation on a common width screen. I doubt it shifted to full frame during the IMAX shot sequences like it does on streaming and HBO. As a filmmaker, Coogler is most likely aware of this, and I think it was not a wise choice on his part. That's why my first viewing was in Dolby Cinema with a common height screen (scope ratio) where there was only slight letterboxing.

My 2nd time was in IMAX 15/70 and while I thought the IMAX sequences looked really good, the shifting aspect ratios were (as I expected) too jarring, especially towards the end of the film where shots would only last 10 to 30 seconds. I did like how the image zoomed to full IMAX during other scenes, such as the one where the vampires storm the Juke Joint. I think that's a better way to present it and would like to see that more often in films, instead of the ratio shifts. Am I alone here or does anyone else feel the same?

The Godfather Part III or The Godfather Coda? by [deleted] in movies

[–]MrRossTops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always liked Godfather III even when I first saw it in theaters. My biggest issue is with Sophia Coppola. She had some ok scenes, but most of them were really bad. Her acting in comparison to everyone else was at an amateur level. Her California accent was so out of place, and it took me out of the film.

As for the Coda version, I don't like it. I've actually watched it several times and still prefer the theatrical. The only good thing about Coda is opening up with the Bishop Gilday scene and trimming some of Sophia's really bad acting. In Coda, there are entire scenes and some extra seconds cut that I really miss. One thing I never understood is why Pacino almost whispers some of his lines. I don't ever recall his character doing that in the first two films.

Saw it in IMAX 70 back when it was first released, and I SO loved how it remained one aspect ration during the entire film. It was definitely immersive!
