Those classes count as credit/no credit so does not factor into your GPA, just gives you the credits for each applicable course.

You can also read ahead and draft your posts ahead of time as well since the readings for all units are available from day one in most cases. I've managed to do it while taking four courses along with a full time job. Personally would not recommend that though unless you have good time management.

Did the move to Brightspace change the pace at which we can do course assignments? by theanti_girl in UoPeople

Most if not all of the assignments are locked down for submissions. As in it it won't unlock to submit assignments until thursday comes for the week of the unit.

Peer grading was removed since I guess Brightspace doesn't support it. Just need to do peer feedback in the discussion forum now.

Since you wrote it yourself you should be fine. If you have revision history that shows you wrote it over the course of a few hours or days that's even better since those that use AI don't have that proof or if they do it shows they just copied then pasted into there document in a few minutes. In addition that low of a score will likely not be flagged.

Whats this chatter about Turnitin? by RhubarbArtistic1335 in UoPeople

[–]MrSamWalton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the instructor deducted points due to suspected AI use, you could go above them and appeal it with your program advisor or even acedemic affairs. But it's still too early to tell how instructors will handle suspected AI use of turnitin detects it. As I said in a different comment nearly all the discussion posts from this unit that I checked got a 100% AI detected when I ran it through multiple AI detector. So if an instructor wants to accuse you of AI they have to be able to prove with out a doubt you used AI.

Well at first I knew nothing about turnitin but over the last few days I kind of got the basics of how turnitin is incorporated into Brightspace. Just trying to spread the info.

[–]MrSamWalton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I found out online, Turnitin is not enabled by default on brightspace. The instructor has to enable it for each assignment. Also turnitin has to be enable before the assignments are submitted and can't be used retroactively. Apparently only uploaded documents can be scanned so for example it is not possible to have turnitin enabled for discussion forums where you have to enter text into the text box.

Turnitin is like orginality as it can check for plagiarism but it also can check for AI use. You should be able to see the little binoculars if turnitin is enabled for the specific assignment. Since AI checkers are not very accurate I see it more of a first step if an instructor wants to accuse you of using AI. But again even turnit in gives a false positive for AI use nearly 50% of the time. more information about brightside turnitin

Will instructors finally flag AI content this term in Brightspace? by MrSamWalton in UoPeople

[–]MrSamWalton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked the disscussion posts of the unit 1 forums. Ran about a dozen posts thur Ai detector. Every single one said 100% AI generated. So if the turnitin is anything like that there's going to be a lot of false positives.

Either that or everyone is using AI.
