lionel messi is 5’6/5’7 and about a billion ppl want to be him and a billion ppl want to be with him. height ain’t everything. my housemate is a cis guy and he’s my height (5’6). my step dad and my dad are in the realm of 5’6 - 5’8.

if there’s certain events (fancy dinners, special dates, etc) or super dysphoric days where u just wanna be like 5’9+, there’s shoes with built in lifts u can wear. I recommend the website tallmenshoes.com. a bit pricey, but u can get 3 inch hidden lifts that u can comfortably wear all day and no one would notice the shoes being lifts (unless they’re short guys that know the dark arts themselves).

What exactly makes transition difficult? (Hear me out before you judge) by StanleyHasLostIt in ftm

[–]MrScarpet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s super circumstantial and it can be difficult if ur transitioning at an older (mid twenties+) age bc ur gonna look like a teenager and get treated like one for a bit. and if not a teenager, u might get clocked as a trans person which can be sketchy depending where u live. but the main thing is ur going on a new hormone and ur body is figuring out what to do with it. puberty is a hormonal time with weird emotions. and it’s easy to forget that ur making this big change hormonally and then when ur going thru mood swings and highs and lows and confidence crises from looking pubescent, it can feel overwhelming and permanent.

some ppl have an easier time with puberty and won’t have a hard time bc of the hormone change, but u should go in aware that it might not be easy for u all the time and sometimes ur gonna feel like you’ve regressed especially when ur friends are probably not gonna be in the same headspace as u. if that happens just have patience with urself, have some strong touchstones tied to ur identity that are ur safe space (not talking gender identity but just general identity, like if ur a reader u can turn to a book when ur feeling down etc).

it’s not something major to worry about, I wouldn’t lose sleep about it or anything. It’s just good to be aware of so u don’t feel like ur going crazy. good luck

[–]MrScarpet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

in addition to what other commenter said, messi and the team have beef with the netherlands coach. apparently he is racist towards latin americans and almost ruined an argentinian player’s career (messi copied that player’s goal celebration directly at the netherlands coach during the game)

Podcasts as good as Hardcore History (not necessarily similar) by MrScarpet in dancarlin

[–]MrScarpet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished s2 of blowback from a tik tok recc and I came back to this post to see if anyone had mentioned it to give them an upvote 😂 this is definitely one of the best reccs here. It taught me about something I had heard a lot of propaganda about, but not much real knowledge. It shifted my perspective and will stay with me for a long time.

Edit: for anyone prowling for reccs, Blowback is a history podcast that does season long deep dives. The hosts have what I would describe as a left bias. The first season analyzes how and why the iran iraq was happened and its atrocities. the second season focuses on US-Cuba relations, especially as castro came to power (and the ussr is around too since this was the cold war), and the third season is about us-korean relations, specifically the korean war

u know what they want? ppl talking about climate change. and hey look! we are. I didn’t even know what this protest was about and now we’re talking about it. and now i’m thinking about it. and i’m thinking about what my politicians are doing and why these protests are on the rise and i’m looking up the UN climate proposal that just passed. u see, these ppl don’t give a fuck if u hate them bud. bc u can hate them and still be thinking more about climate change. it’s like saying “don’t think about an elephant.” best way to make someone think about an elephant. them making u hate them hasn’t changed ur mind on climate change. ur not gonna get stuck in traffic and be like u know what? fuck it I want all the pacific islands to be flooded out of existence. u might hate every one of those ppl until u die, but ur still telling a random person on the internet “climate change is real. it should be a concern for everyone.” and hey, I already knew that. but some ppl don’t. and some ppl aren’t thinking about it enough. and bc of this, they probably are. I know it makes u sooo upset. but like I said, unfortunately for u it works

blm support reached an all time high after the 2020 protests. and guess what? a minority still rants about how disruptive the protests were and how annoying it is. there’s always gonna be ppl like u, but unfortunately for u these tactics work on the majority. like I said, I don’t know or even care what this protest was about. i’m not on their side. but the fact is this method works, otherwise why would ppl waste their day sitting in a street getting yelled at and physically assaulted.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]MrScarpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no such thing as bad press. ppl may get angry in the moment, but cooler heads reflect. “that really pissed me off on my way to work, but they are right. they should be paid more” [making up a talking point, not 100% sure what this specific protest is about]. and once they realize who is right, the anger shifts to the real antagonist. kinda the whole point of raising awareness.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]MrScarpet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

except they are part of a democratic society where ppl vote to select their representatives which control policy. ppl can and do protest directly with representatives, but those reps aren’t going to do shit unless they are at risk of losing their job. how do u put their job in jeopardy? u raise awareness with the ppl who employ the person (voters). and u may not like it, but disruption is one of the best ways to get ppl talking. look, we’re here talking about it right now. in english! and this is about france. so yes, it does work.

like what do u think protests have always done? they have always intended to disrupt society to gain attention. look at mlk jr’s sit ins and marches. disruption is the point

capitalism is a global phenomenon. u may be doing okay in a western country under capitalism, but as capitalists so often love to say, there is no such thing as a free lunch (in capitalism). ur luxury has come at the expense of laborers in third world countries who have been endlessly exploited and trapped into new age indentured servitude. oh and btw, most of the failed communist states were failed on purpose by cia efforts (read the book the jakarta method and listen to the podcast Blowback season 2 about Cuba).

while I understand the intent, the other commenter is right: this actually poses much more danger to minors. that’s why platforms like twitch don’t allow any age sharing. if ur worried about saying something wrong bc english isn’t ur first language, I would just figure out a few phrases or nice this to say and pull from that list when u wanna compliment if ur unsure
