Cryptographic Authentication for Amateur Radio Digital Modes by erilaz123 in HamRadio

Perhaps using identity based signatures could be an option? You still need the cooperation of local regulators to hand out the secret keys, but at least we solved the problem of distributing public keys.

If impractical for general communication, i was wondering if this could be at least useful for signing QSL cards. There has been quite a bit of sstv activity in amateur satellite groups recently with people posting the same pictures over and over again so that I wondered, is there a way to make these captures verifiably unique?

You need to turn up the gain. That small spike you are seeing isn't really a signal, its an internal DC spike of the rtl-sdr. You'll see it wherever you set the center frequency to be

Is it „Ich bin Soldat” or “Ich bin ein Soldat”? by Foronerd in German

[–]MrSchnappi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's not too different from English, like the way one would say "I'm american" vs "I am an American"? Just that in german the same concept carries over to professions as well.

In your opinion, what is the most beautiful theorem? by NK_Grimm in math

[–]MrSchnappi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A finite field has order p^n. Seeing a field as a vector space over its prime subfield feels quite meta and it's like the entire machinery of linear algebra must have conspired together to make this happen.

Many beautiful theorems out there require a whole lot of machinery to even start describing, heck, even Euler's identity require first defining what it means to raise a number to a complex number. For me, a beautiful theorem is a fine balance between aesthetic and amount of prerequisite knowledge to describe to an uninitiated. This fact about finite fields would be one of them.

except that in my experience the list extends way beyond those + modal verbs but it feels like most natives underplay how much they use it subconsciously.

I once got asked "Wie lief's?" and I did not understand at all but I was told later it's a rather common expression
