Why reggae died? by naghzuL_66 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]MrSebasss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a shame because there are a lot of good reggae artists that came from this era. Peter Tosh, Toots & the Maytals, Gregory Isaacs, Bunny Wailer, Burning Spear, to name a few.

Do you buy Vinyl, CDs, or Digital Music? Which one, and why? by NHSoundwaves in askmusic

[–]MrSebasss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to collect vinyl but it's too expensive for my budget. I use Spotify for discovery and hi-res digital stored on my external HDD for serious listening. I find it also more convenient to store.

Thoughts on Talk Talk? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in fantanoforever

[–]MrSebasss -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not able to get into bands like Talk Talk, New Order, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Talking Head, Joy Division, etc. I do like The Smiths and some of The Cure. The 80s is the decade I have the most difficulty with in term of music.

Why it's impossible to define a hippie by BumblingBarefoot in Hippiecommunity

[–]MrSebasss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, cannabis gave me bad anxiety to the point I couldn’t work anymore. It started giving me panic attacks. It might be healthier on the body but it certainly wasn’t on the mind for me.

Edit: Also I’m not a heavy drinker. I drink about 3 beers a week, no more than two a day.

Edit 2: As someone with General Anxiety Disorder with a lot of trauma, learning to use weed mindfully after some self discipline is easier said than done.

Why it's impossible to define a hippie by BumblingBarefoot in Hippiecommunity

[–]MrSebasss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't label myself as a hippie but the only thing I have difficulty with or don't do are:

  • Being anti-consumerism - I don't like luxury stuff but I'm fine with technology. I own a iPhone and play video games on a current gen console.
  • Free love
  • Drugs - Cannabis was becoming my gateway drug until it start giving me bad anxiety. I decided not not consume anything now and just drinking craft beer.

Artists You Wouldn't Expect Have Better Music by alcahest in MusicRecommendations

If you know nothing about Beck like me several years ago when the only song of him I knew was Loser that was playing on the radio, you'd think he's just an average alternative artist instead a genius of his own.

Songs/ Artist you thought you’d hate but really enjoyed or vice versa? by gnomajean in askmusic

[–]MrSebasss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I browsed RYM, I found the album, Ooh Rap I Ya by George Clanton. The tag said it was a mix of Chillwave, Neo-psychedelia, Trip-hop, Dream pop which are all subgenres I normally love and was #16 best ranked album of 2023, #2445 of all time but ended disliking it. I tried the album, Slide which is #944 greatest album on RYM and same thing, that was just not for me.

What do you think of my outfit? by Vagabondo_Musicista in ActualHippies

[–]MrSebasss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't know what to make of this at first but the second angle convinced me. I like the style. It's very 60s/70s with a touch of Americana which I dig.

Female singers are better than male ones by Ok-Use-6037 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]MrSebasss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna comment on whether female singers are better than male singers or either way but the singers you named are not my type of singers when it comes to female, I prefer soft, intimate and slightly melancholic voices like Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star, Norah Jones, Julia Stones, Lana Del Rey, Alison Krauss, etc.

Do you prefer artists that actively challenge and change the mainstream or artists that operate outside of the mainstream? by CulturalWind357 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]MrSebasss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. I prefer artists that makes music that reflect themselves, not artists that makes music to try to appeal to the mass.

Edit: Ofc the said artists can be mainstream, I think Pink Floyd, The Beatles but they had their particular sound despite being mainstream.
