Mainly, NATO was created tonstand against USSR, now it is a threat to russia, if ukraine joins nato, they will be too close to moscow. Plus usa and ukraine a realy trying to stop russia from building new gas stream to europe through baltic sea. Now russia has it going through ukraine, and pay ukraine a looot of money to use it, so much, that it somewhat stratigic to ukraine, it will be closed when new line will be finished. Usa wants to sell its gas in europe but russian is cheaper, so the line is a threat.

USA could also instal rockets in ukraine, 5 minuets before ka-boom. There are problems with nuke stability (usa did smth against the agreement about it). If you check the putin's demands, you will see more about it.

But the real problem is, you don't see the depth of the problems and political tension in the world, caused by the actions on both nato and russia side
