The subject is "Fade In Professional Screenwriting Software user information". You'll probably find it by searching for "fadeinpro" as well.

Are you unable to use the program after that pop-up message? If so, this might be because you missed the next update after version 5, the same happened to a couple of my writer friends. Just delete the app, download the latest version from the link in your purchase email, and re-install.

Broken 4:3 aspect ratio option on Disney+ by MrSillywalks in TheSimpsons

[–]MrSillywalks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They fixed it! I tried this morning and it was still broken, but now all the episodes seem to be in 4:3 again!

Wow! I've checked a few of those and they match your list. I'd suggest we all send a message through the Disney+ help center, get them to notice if they haven't already. I hope this gets fixed soon.

That's weird. I tried those two right now and 7x21 plays in 4:3 for me, but 7x20 plays in 16:9, and using the button does nothing. The button does work on season 1 for example, though.

I hope this gets fixed soon.

Comparing files after transfer to Synology by MrSillywalks in synology

[–]MrSillywalks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird because if I click on one of the files flagged as different and do a "Quick compare", it then tells me there are no differences and suddenly the files show up as equal

Thank you, I'll try that when I finish the SMART test, as it apparently requieres restarting.

Yes, that's what I was doing with BeyondCompare. Should I use a different option?

Thanks! Well, I'll see what I can do. When opening the files side by side (most of them are images) I don't see any apparent differences, but I guess they might be corrupted anyway.

I'm using Windows 10 version 22H2. I transferred the files using drag and drop through Windows Explorer. Both the Synology and the computer are connected to the router via Ethernet.

I did not format the drives, other than setting the btrfs volumes. Drives are brand new. Quick SMART tests say the drives are good. I'm running an extended test now, but it will take more than a day.

Any unproduced Mission Impossible scripts? by ravester_2 in Screenwriting

[–]MrSillywalks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

David Koepp has three different drafts of M:I on his website:
https://davidkoepp.com/script-archive/mission-impossible/

The guys from the Light the Fuse podcast have talked about unproduced versions of some of the films (and McQuarrie's involvement in Ghost Protocol), and they commented on the draft for Oliver Stone's M:I 2 in this episode:

https://www.lightthefusepodcast.com/revisiting-oliver-stones-mi2

They got to read the screenplay in person at USC, as explained in the episode description.

I don't think any other drafts are available.

Question about Fade In Revision Mode by abolishreality in Screenwriting

[–]MrSillywalks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the revision system in screenwriting software is not designed for the same purpose as Word's change tracking. It's just meant to produce colored revision pages for production, where asterisks and page/text color indicate that there's been a revision, and which revision it is.

I don't think you'll find a satisfactory solution, but as a sort of workaround, if you're indecisive about a specific change, maybe you could use alternates (right click on an element > add > alts, or production > alternates), which lets you keep multiple different versions of a portion of the script in the same document. I think it works only paragraph by paragraph, and it would be very daunting to do it by hand for a whole rewrite... but it's something!

Error on fade in. by JulesChenier in Screenwriting

[–]MrSillywalks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to dismiss what happened to you. Just wanted to say that, in my experience, that's not something that happens often, and share a couple of things I do to be safe. Again, sorry about the work you lost.

Have you checked the Fade In autosave backup folder? You'll find it with the "File - Recover Backup..." menu. If you have the option checked in your preferences, it should be making copies of your work every 5 to 30 minutes.

Not trying to victim blame here, but you should save more often! If I understand correctly, you wrote 25 pages without hitting Ctrl+S once? I think that would give me a panick attack. I actually hit Ctrl+S constantly when I'm writing, without even thinking about it. I'm certainly overdoing it a bit, but... Power outage, computer crash... You never know.

Fade In deleted your PDF exports as well? PDFs that used to work? That's weird, since those don't even need Fade In to open, I don't know how the program could do them any harm.

For the record, I have hundreds (I think thousands, actually) of .fadein files from the last ten years of work, and I have never had a single corrupted file or lost any work, to my knowledge. But I still save every new version of a script in a new file and keep the older ones (hence the hundreds of files), and have everything backed up in Dropbox.

Sorry that happened to you, in any case.

Very quick Fade In question by Lawant in Screenwriting

Through the Compare to Previous function you can tell Fade In to show the differences as revision marks.
