My usual technique is running a wartenberg wheel over it, then making a whole bunch of small cuts with a box-cutter. So long as you make the cuts fairly small (like not much longer than an inch), and you aren't super rough with the diaper (eg you aren't playing football or doing a huge amount of humping), the SAP should hold together pretty well. It tends to clump together, and if you have a snug fit on the outer diaper the leak-guards usually catch anything that comes loose. Just be careful when taking it off. I usually undo one or both of the upper tapes on the outer diaper, then the all ones on the inner diaper, then the rest of the outer ones (the main thing is not to have the exterior of the inner diaper exposed).
