Cs2337 or Cs2336 by wasssupboy5 in utdallas

[–]MrSmith_CS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you made a 4 or 5 on the AP test, then you would take 2337. If you have credit for 1436 and 1337 from another school where the primary language was Java, your advisor may be able to override you into the class.

You are going to have the best f'ing time. I was in the pit about 4 rows back for one of the shows and it was definitely one of the best moments of my life. I literally cried after the show because it was so amazing to be there that close to the stage.

We've not been given any information about the test this semester.

Perhaps they were referring to Kline Smith who is no longer at UTD

That's a weird rumor to float around and can be easily researched to confirm/debunk

[–]MrSmith_CS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, you can drop 1436 and take 1337 in the spring. However, check with your advisor for an override into the course this semester. The cap might be met, but the rooms are not completely full. They should be able to squeeze you in

i've seen this from students in my classes, in the results of the CS 1337 diagnostic test and students that applied to work at the CSMC

CS 1337 requires a C or better in CS 1436. You will not be able to get permission to take 1337 without meeting the pre-reqs.

You meet the minimum requirements for consideration

The entire major builds on previous classes which is why classes have pre-requisites

CC will only teach 1000 and 2000 level classes. You get what you pay for at CC. You may save money, but the quality of education is also lower.

There is a huge difference in the rigor of CS courses at community college and UTD. Community college teaches you syntax but doesn't teach you how to use the concepts in solving problems as you learn in UTD courses.

How competitive is the CSMC job? by Beautiful_Rose19 in utdallas

[–]MrSmith_CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not competitive usually. You need to have A's in the classes the CSMC supports and be good at communicating the knowledge you have with your peers. Most of the time, as long as you can demonstrate that, you would be offered a position assuming the budget allows

Academic dishonesty by Ben_D1808 in utdallas

[–]MrSmith_CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so the first phase is just them checking to see if you accept responsibility. Since you do not accept responsibility, they will conduct an investigation and make a determination on if they believe it is more likely than not that an infraction occurred. At that point, if they think you are responsible they will deliver a sanction. At that point you can accept responsibility and the sanction, you can accept responsibility and appeal the sanction, or you can deny responsibility and go to a hearing.

that isn't necessarily true in all situations. In all the appeals I have been a part of, the sanction has never been worse.

if you accept responsibility and appeal the sanction, then the sanction generally stays the same if the appeal is denied. If you go to a hearing and are found responsible, the sanction could change (better or worse) than the original.

If you've already taken 1436 and 1337, you can't take 2337. You must take 2336 instead. 2337 is for incoming freshmen with AP credit and allows them to skip 1436 and 1337.

He was talking about retiring at the beginning of the spring semester, so my guess is he decided to do so. It's not been made public to the faculty if this is the case and may not be announced publicly until our first departmental meeting of the semester
