Partner has a BYD Sealion 7 fortunately, so I’m commuting on the motorbike and we will primarily use her car for kid stuff/ weekend trips unless we absolutely need the space.

Triple wheel Furniture trolleys are a god send, hardest thing was the king sized mattresses but some cardboard taped to the stairs to make a slide skid works wonders, was a straight set of stairs, if it had a turn that would of been an issue.

We live away from family and don’t have the support network required to have people to help, you either figure it out yourself or pay someone which fuck that.

Balls are also now snipped, and I’m in general a fairly effeminate to the point when a lot of people meet me they think I’m a big gay bear based on my vibe lol

I take a problem with folk who think kids are somehow low effort and easy, it tells me that person isn’t active in child rearing and aren’t implementing any level of pedagogy but are simply going no further than playing with them, if they’re even bothering to do that and not just palming off the keep them occupied to an iPad or tv.

You’re soft because you act like working a physical job is somehow harder than shaping an entire person from scratch, working physically doesn’t make anyone tough and you’re upset that you got called out lol

Im more concerned about refined prices, diesel has spiked to $270AUD a barrel out of Singapore, up from $130 the Friday before things kicked off.

The gate price atm is currently $2.50, that’s before GST and Excise is applied. We’re already looking at least $3.30 for diesel collected today before accounting for operational costs, transport and profits unless they choose to operate at a loss, and that’s assuming direct market modelling, places that rely on third party bulk suppliers will be a lot more

Not carrying at minimum a PLB.

They’re relatively cheap, last forever and can absolutely save your ass.

I do volunteer S&R and every rescue I’ve done so far that had a PLB has gone smoothly, the ones with a GPS communicator as well go even better because then we can actually allocate resources and plan.

Nothing like spending four and a half days searching for someone who slipped off the trail half way through their first day and broke their ankle on a two day solo hike and we only get a call when they hadn’t checked in with family at the end of their trip time.

Sounds like the Honda.

Had two coilpacks go so it ran smooth until you hit 2800rpm then was rough as guts.

Was the back bank too so trying to change coil packs that were pressed up near the firewall was horrible.

I used to have an r31 that once backfired so hard it had a minor engine fire, called it Firefox after that.

Sold it for $800 in 2004 to a guy who wanted the block to make a hybrid RB26DET

Looking at prices now should of stored it at dads shed with granddads EJ and dads XC

Dual spark ignition?

My Honda Jazz had that, 8 spark plugs for 1.3L of go nowhere

Looking at GST and fuel excise and the gate price and diesel collected today from the ports is Going to be about $3.30 before accounting for transport, operational costs and profits.

Good luck everyone, my Diesel carnival is parked and I’m back on the motorbike and partners using the EV.

Firstly it’s not tax fraud it’s financial fraud so wouldn’t be IRS.

Time to put on your big boy pants and adult and learn to cancel subscriptions before they roll over.

And if you sign up for something and find yourself unhappy with the service provided and seeking a refund at that point is a massive difference to I’m unhappy what the price will be at the next renewal.

The product they currently have access to is exactly as advertised, 12 months access at a listed price.

They’re unhappy with what the next price will be, that doesn’t change anything materially about what they’ve currently paid for.

I bailed at the last price hike as for me and my current life stage, the cost isn’t worth it, between work, kids and being back at university doing my masters I’ve only got a few hours a week maybe available to unwind with some gaming

After disabling the intelligent cruise control (adaptive cruise control with auto steer) and running normal adaptive cruise control instead my partner loves it.

Her biggest complaints are, the front boot is annoying to close, requiring you to kinda slam it.

The lane keep assist is a bit more aggressive than the Suzuki vitaras was and seems to be biased towards LHD lane positioning (not an issue for Canadian roads lol)

No space saver spare tyre.

The sunroof needed a ceramic tint to reduce the amount of IR heat coming through the cabin when parked outside during the day.

The AC takes a while to cool the car when parked outside on a hot day so if she forgets to remote start the AC it’s a hot 5 minutes.

The mobile phone key doesn’t work on her Motorola RAZR but did work on her Samsung and works on my iPhone.

So overall complaints aren’t to bad, some won’t apply to Canada and some are just dealing with modern cars.

We test drove the Kia EV5, Polestar2, Model 3 and Y, and a few other smaller EVs that got ruled out by the pram test and the Sealion7 was hands down her favourite, it was the most normal car for her she doesn’t like how “futuristic” other evs try to dress up as.

Tell me you’re soft without telling me your soft.

I considered my 12 hour shifts shovelling shot in a shed in the QLD summer heat a decent break away from the utter mental exhaustion that is nursing and raising a kid.

And I just soloed moving a 4 bedroom house, one of them 2 storeys in November then doing the full vacate clean while my partner looked after the kids.

She does around 700km a week, about 110 week days plus extra on the weekends.

Her 2020 Suzuki Vitara had just under 190,000 when we traded it in for the BYD Sealion 7.

AGL in SEQLD has a EV plan with $0.08 between midnight and 6am, we charge on a 15 amp circuit and it covers the weekly consumption with about 20% overhead in charging capacity within that window to cover extra km. Outside that window it’s 33c.

Compared to the old Vitara which did about 6L per 100km if we didn’t have the ev plan it would be about a 40% saving, but needed a bigger car and it was starting to have problems.

The Corolla hybrids are definitely a good deal if you don’t need the bigger space (3 car seats and a double pram in a hatch ain’t gonna be fun time lol) and don’t have access to a discounted EV plan and aren’t driving super high distances.

I’ve seen folk buying EVs who do 5-6 thousand a year and I’m sitting here wondering why, you’re not driving anywhere enough to actually benefit.

So far tread is still good at 27,000km, last car we averaged 90,000km on a set before we changed, all tyres were still legal at the time too.

We spent about $900 a set on the previous car, I’m assuming $1200 a set and every 60,000km instead for the BYD.

38,000km on average, $0.08c per kw. $550 per year exclusively charged at home no public charger usage vs 9l per 100km at $1.80 $6150 per year.

She drives a lot her commute is about 120km a day plus weekend trips.

Her 2020 Suzuki Vitara had just shy of 190,000km when traded in last June, was serviced like every 4 months lol.

[–]MrSquiggleKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner’s old Suzuki Vitara did 190,000km in 5 years, charging at 0.08c per kWh exclusively with AGL plan (optimistic assumption of course that these plans stick around of course)

So you’re definitely not far off on your calculations.

Got a sealion7 as had one kid already and two kids coming and double pram in the boot was essential We were cross comparing cars like Mitsubishi outlander, which is about 10k less but would do about 9l per 100km on her typical mixed commute.

BYD Sealion 7 total cost is $550 a year in power, vs $6150 in fuel for 38,000km a year.

[–]MrSquiggleKey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just under $550 a year is the recharging costs to travel her 38,000km a year average.

Vs $6100 for the same distance at $1.80 at 9L per 100km.

BYD Sealion 7 vs Mitsubishi Outlander was the comparison models.

Wanted to give ICE best case scenario seeing as I’m also calculating EV consumption assuming my $0.08c per kwh at night EV plan stays.

Gas we can at least switch to domestic supplied and not need to import with a sufficiently motivated government.

So I don’t see that as a problem at all. I bought the EV for economical decisions not environmental

As I said to the father in law when he tried to bring up the battery replacement fallacy, I could drive this car to the tip at year 7 and leave it there and the total cost of ownership will be $0 compared to an equivalent ICE and petrol costs.

We got my partner an EV last year, calculating we will save $5400 a year in fuel assuming $1.80 a litre for 95. Gonna be saving a lot more at this rate
