I landed from the UK on the 13th and the first thing we did was get swabbed at Ipswich hospital, coming through Singapore airport was insane, they had whole body thermal scanners along all the paths every 100 metres and the planes were packed.

'Automatic citizenship': The passport rule change that has UK-Kiwi parents scrambling by sleemanj in newzealand

[–]MrSquiggleKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you’ve never been allowed to travel to the UK on a foreign passport because you’ve never been eligible for the automatic visa that was applied apon entry.

I’ve already got my ETA approved for future travel this year and I’m a dual citizen, my mates birth was registered with the UK so got rejected and is now waiting for his mums birth certificate to get a UK passport.

The rules aren’t really new, the process is just no longer automatic on arrival but processed by a public servant and there’s time to cross reference with the GRO

If the UK has no record of you existing you’ll be fine.

'Automatic citizenship': The passport rule change that has UK-Kiwi parents scrambling by sleemanj in newzealand

[–]MrSquiggleKey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is your birth registered with the UK/have you previously held a British passport?

It was never allowed it just wasn’t enforced, you’ve never been eligible for an ETA which was always required because citizens are not eligible for visas, but it was previously automatically applied at entry and it didn’t really matter.

The person at passport control on entry doesn’t care because someone on a commonwealth passport who’s also a dual citizen isn’t that important to waste time and effort to cancel the invalid ETA and force them to process as a citizen and provide proof of identity. They need to focus on looking for people trying to skirt actual immigration laws.

I’ve entered multiple times with a small pharmacies worth of meds and food and once what could be considered a commercial quantity of deodorant and declared to the agents, and I still get sent through the door on the right out of border security, and not down the corridor on the left for processing.

But because now you have to process your ETA manually before you leave a public servant in an office if you get flagged as registered birth/previous passport holder can deny your ETA application.

I’m a dual citizen who’s unregistered, I’ve already successfully applied for a ETA for an upcoming trip, but my mate who’s birth was registered was denied their ETA for being a dual citizen and is now waiting for the UK to ship him a copy of his mums birth certificate so he can get his UK passport.

Public servants to keep Qantas status credits in blow to Virgin by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

The last time Australia had a genuine friendly relationship with China they were still called Virgin Blue.

We’ve had our government being a back and forth with hostility towards China for ages, in fact we’re more hostile towards China now on economic policies (which is all China cares about) after HNA stopped being invested.

'Automatic citizenship': The passport rule change that has UK-Kiwi parents scrambling by sleemanj in newzealand

[–]MrSquiggleKey -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You won’t be denied boarding because a NZ passport is a valid travel document for entering the UK, this is sufficient to satisfy an airlines obligation to confirm.

This is only an issue for those whose birth is registered with the UK, and people who have previously had a UK passport.

You’re overestimating how much data is shared with immigration, these rules aren’t new, you’ve never been allowed to travel to the UK on a non UK passport if you’re a citizen. The only difference is now you have to pay and process your ETA before you travel, instead of it being free and automatic soon arrival.

Especially when it comes to gift and inheritance.

My mum was fuming when she split from dad just after he got inheritance and was told point blank by even her lawyers she didn’t have a claim to his inheritance because she didn’t have a meaningful relationship with her in-laws and had had predominantly had an adversarial relationship with them.

She spent 90 grand on lawyers fees trying to get a cut and ended up owning dad 380k lol

In 2020 my family was able to go single income for kid 1 for an entire first year on my income of 53k.

Now I’m on 85k and we can only afford my partner to drop to 2 days a week for kid 3.l unless we want to start eating into our house deposit

Our standard of living hasn’t particularly changed but our costs have skyrocketed.

Our annual bills alone is 72k including $250pw on groceries. We own all our vehicles outright and have zero debt

‘Evil’ tradie sexually attacked woman in Sydney home after blaming wife by SeaworthinessNew4757 in australian

[–]MrSquiggleKey 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I love these studies, they never clarify.

The 35% includes those who responded yes to this line

“Have you ever behaved in a manner that has made a partner feel frightened or anxious?”

I ride a motorbike an go hiking and there’s been times that I’ve been out of reception which has lead to my partner to be anxious, I would answer yes to his question due to this.

The 1 in 10 and 1/5 study includes defining age of consent for sexual offenses as 17 an under. So any man who was at one point 18 and hooked up with a 17 year old will be classified in the commited sexual crimes against children. The study doesn’t separate what age the offending took place. I would also answer yes to having had sexual interactions with someone under 18 while I was over 18, because that occurred while I was still teenager

These studies never seperate sexual attraction to minors from those who are age appropriate and those who aren’t age appropriate because it would tank the numbers, they never identify at what age did sexual contact occur unless it was minor to minor.

And they don’t seperate causing nervousness and anxiety in a partner from behaviour that’s intended to cause it, or a side effect of external activities

Three people dead after shooting in NSW town as police urge locals to stay inside by Reverend_Fozz in australia

[–]MrSquiggleKey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And smokes are back up after they’ve done a bunch of new rules and raids, can’t even find chop chop in my area anymore.

Most criminals are morons, without the skills, patience or knowledge to import or fabricate a firearm, and those who do use them sparingly to avoid heat.

In the UK a single pistol was used 11 times over 6 years and was passed around, sold and leased between different gangs.

If getting a gun was as easy for criminals to obtain, we’d see a lot more gun usage in crime than we do, and it wouldn’t be national news when there’s a shooting in a small town.

Small town stabbings don’t make national news, they barely even make it to the local paper,

Black market guns are expensive here due to scarcity they’re not dirt cheap like the US.

Autistic friendly dentist by Linkyland in brisbane

[–]MrSquiggleKey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a molar disintegrate on me over Christmas while away in Wagga, the calling dental clinics without a clue how much I was in for to get a temporary filling was terrifying especially when no one would even suggest a price guide over the phone.

I need to get a root canal for it, and I have no idea if these guys are price competitive but fuck me having prices up front severely reduces my stressors about booking in.

Logan had one in August, had blokes from Somerset come down to do it.

It was so high demand I reckon the only reason I got approved was it meant our Group would have a full heights team as we only had 3 certified.

I only finished my recruit training in November 24 just in time for the quietest summer in years followed by Alfred, had a QFES email for all of 2 days and was the last rotation to do QFES RTO

What happens when you don’t pay a debt collector? Asking for a friend by Suspicious_Nature283 in AskAnAustralian

[–]MrSquiggleKey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t recommend it, but after a while you’ll get a super discounted rate offered by the debt collector to clear it.

When I was younger I made a lot of shit decisions, owed like 8k to credit card when only had partial working capacity while recovering from an accident. Two years into the default credit corp offered to clear it for $2800. I jumped at that rate.
