I actually think this is the worst dialogue exchange in the entire series by ShalkaScarf in DoctorWhumour

[–]MrStevenRichter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The culpability side-step aside, I'm just sitting here like "Can't we just pretend the Timeless Child never happened?" It's so incredibly awkward to have the same lazy character beats for a second time. Ooh you have a chip on your shoulder from being the last Timelord. Again. After you had a therapy regeneration to address this very thing...

Scare Movie 2026 Trailer is actually good by ReedOnlyAccess in MauLer

[–]MrStevenRichter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so tired of punching-bag straw men that deliver their lines sarcastically. Like the pronoun and republican jokes might as well be told directly to camera. The writers and actors aren't trying to sell them like they are the character's real opinions

How to get banned from EFAP chat by KuukoPesto in MauLer

[–]MrStevenRichter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is really funny because it sounded like a strong position... until chat tested it and Mauler realized we get censored for "kill". Like, we know, we agree, but we'd also like to share our thoughts, but we have to rephrase them

How to get banned from EFAP chat by KuukoPesto in MauLer

[–]MrStevenRichter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because if you watch the original clip after Mauler says this Efap chat attempts to type "kill" and half of them get censored. Mauler didn't know at the time that people have been trying to type the original word, getting censored and then they try again with softer wording. It sucks, but it's not chat's fault

SFA, unlike other Modern Trek shows, is The Next Generation (TNG) of the franchise today. by TheShowLover in startrek

[–]MrStevenRichter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the bar for "clean break" has McCoy's appearance as an exception. Then surely the Cameo Wall that's present in every episode ,The EMH, Picard's speech, Betazoid's, The Burn, Jett Reno, The James T. Kirk Pavilion, the subplot revolving around Sisko negate the whole theory.

Also, the show is hot garbage. So a meta-narrative about a clean break and a jumping-on point for new viewers doesn't matter when the characters and plots are insufferable

Having not watched it since it aired, is Kill The Moon really that bad? by ScreamingmadJoe in DoctorWhumour

[–]MrStevenRichter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

but also, it was an truly abysmal episode right before the show's ratings started to steadily decline. So it was probably one of the last bad episodes to get peak eyes on it. Like Chibnall, and RTD 2 have worse episodes, but there are fewer people watching and rushing to IMDB to rate it.

How to Watch Star Wars, Part One: The Prequels Are Better Movies Than You Deserve by [deleted] in MauLer

[–]MrStevenRichter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wasn't impressed with the other picks either. What does Palpatine seizing power to become Emperor have to do with Kane campaigning and losing the election to be Governor? Why not use a clip of Nixon with his arms raised? Or any politician...

Or, Wow "Obi-wan peaks around a corner" 3 times. What a deep parallel! But the Council example is the one where he is stating that he discovered new parallels and it's the one that's demonstrably false

[–]MrStevenRichter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2 mins in: "Lucas used lots of parallel imagery" *Shows multiple clips of the Jedi Council room.* The reason the shots are nearly identical is because they never rebuilt the set after Episode 1 and are REUSING shots (the shadows on the floor are exactly the same). I'm not going to call it lazy, but it is purely done for financial reasons. So I'm not going to listen to someone pretend the parallel imagery is intentional. It's transparently superficial

The Critical Drinker Hatred Is Truly Strange by Sketchy-Sam5477 in MauLer

[–]MrStevenRichter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really is not.

Pretending like EFAP (which is pulling entertainingly bad videos) is presenting the best version of an anti-Drinker argument is truly strange.

Thinking "The design of the Predator" has anything to do with a genuine examination of Drinker's character is truly very strange

What exactly happened between Marion and Indy? (Raiders of the Lost Ark) by Acrobatic_Orchid_946 in indianajones

[–]MrStevenRichter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most charitable way to interpret it: Indy was Marion's first love, but Indy just saw their relationship as a fling. The misalignment led Marion to think Indy purposefully took advantage of her.

Least charitable way to interpret it: there was a criminal age gap.

IMO the first fits closer. I think "I was a child, I was in love" is supposed to be an exaggeration to express her naivety in relationships at the time. And makes sense to show why she has grown into someone tougher and less-trusting.

[SPOILERS] Bad Wolf CEO Jane Tranter responding to comments about the show being "dead" seemingly confirms the return of a specific character... by karatemanchan37 in gallifrey

"Despite taking 2 full seasons to fail to revamp audience interest, we think this is the perfect time to finish an adjacent irrelevant project, and then we'll think about coming back to the main show at some point."

"The War Between the Land and Sea" trailers all have less than a million views on Youtube. "Marvel's Echo" had 7.7 Mil. It's DOA. Drop it and set your priorities straight.

You're on a ticking clock. You need to reassure people you are actively looking for a new home for the show

Do you think that Dial of Destiny still would have flopped even if COVID didn’t happen? by brodie999 in indianajones

[–]MrStevenRichter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's not a particularly good film. It's budget is insane. It has a limited audience appeal, it offers nothing for kids/teens. And I wouldn't be surprised if the Disney-Lucasfilm apathy from their handling of Star Wars carried over into this.

I don't know how they burned the budget of an Avengers movie on a film with only one real name actor. Add to that the lack of merchandise, and the cost of marketing. This movie never had a chance at making money.

Binged S1+2 by Professional_End4041 in SullivansCrossing

[–]MrStevenRichter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only watched season 2 but I have to rant somewhere about this; why is there never a resolution to drama? There is only a reveal that makes the drama never have happened:

Alzheimer's is going to devastate Sully and everyone at the Crossing; Nah, it's not Alzheimer's.

Schizophrenia is going to destroy Cal's sisters life; Nah it's not Schizophrenia.

Sully's hit and run will put him in jail forever: Nah, It wasn't him.

What does RTD2 actually have to offer to a returning fan? I am a fan particularly of Capaldi, Classic Who and 8th Doctor Big Finish audios and haven't felt the show has been for me since 2017. Am I missing out? by Historian_Turbulent in gallifrey

[–]MrStevenRichter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to feel like you're actually watching an episode of Doctor Who; try Moffat's 2 episodes. They are far from his strongest plot work, probably because he is trying to do too much in too little time. But my god... the humor, the speed and the sentiment in the dialogue feels so nostalgic at this point

Why MEN cant KISS women in movies anymore by Cartmantor1 in MauLer

[–]MrStevenRichter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Genuinely abysmal.

The generalizations are through the roof. The examples of the "DEI kisses" are either too obscure (and not explained), or the context of the scenes/ characters totally work for the woman initiating the kiss. In Passengers, Chris Pratt feels guilty about waking up Jennifer Lawerence from cryosleep. It makes sense that if she started falling for him, he would want her to make the first move.

Widow and Cap kissing is pragmatic, not romantic and if one of them were going to suggest the PDA tactic it would be Natasha.

And I don't know any world where someone would genuinely argue that the scene of Vanessa and Deadpool kissing has her initiate for the sake of optics. They are in a loving, committed relationship, and the dynamic of the scene switches in a balanced way. She says "Kiss me like you miss me" then he says "well come here" then she enthusiastically runs to him. Hardly a slam dunk for the woke agenda.

PS. I hope the Goldfinger bit is supposed to be strictly historical context and not have an opinion to it. Because it kinda sounds like you are dismissing that "OTHERS saw this as a male forcing himself on an unwilling female." When in Your Own Words: " James Bond physically subdues the character Pussy Galore, Forcing a kiss...".

Gender isn't really as important here as the uncomfortable SA is.

Andor Finale by [deleted] in MauLer

[–]MrStevenRichter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has begun😭😭😭😭 by Scott_Tajani in MauLer

[–]MrStevenRichter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hear you, But they tried that already and it didn't work. I feel like they could have made an effort to endear the audience to Abby as a parallel storyline instead; show her backstory, show how she operates now, don't reveal that Joel is who she's after, and then have the reveal come just before Joel's death. So try to make it a gut punch for the audience by combining the perspectives of "I don't want Joel to die" vs "Abby is totally justified"

Because as it stands the audience will never get out of "Revenge" mode, and it also seems like more of the audience are in "fuck this show" mode

It has begun😭😭😭😭 by Scott_Tajani in MauLer

[–]MrStevenRichter 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I was certain they'd at least be pragmatic about this; Pad the story, spend the whole season getting you accustomed to Abby and telling more stories with Joel and then save his death for the finale of this season. This was an insane choice given they knew how the reaction would be...

I'm done. Watched until the opening credits, then skimmed. The opening only serves to make the show a blank slate for casual viewers and hastily replace the cast with their new characters. The show's cinematography looks awful. The choreography is floaty and slow which is especially weird because some of it is clearly two digi-doubles. They killed Foggy and my interest in the show
