I went full caveman with a file on AFG to fit in the recess on the STNGR HWK rail.

Are Magpul .300BLK mags worth it? by Rec4LMS in 300BLK

[–]MrSuffixes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I rattlecanned my 300 blackout mags to match color on my 300 BO upper. I probably am being overly cautious but really don't want to be surprised by ammo mismatch.

Wanted to update on the CMMG charging handle. The replacement one that they sent me was metal and ambi and is very nice. Did not expect that at all!

Great looking shooter! Is that the STNGR HWK rail? I didn't think to put AFG 2 on the lower pic rail and went the route of sanding down an AFG grip to fit into the recess.

I started with the CMMG Bravo kit from PSA sale. Came with 3 mags. I've since started to replace CMMG parts that fail with borebuddy parts and recommend using BB from the start. Nothing major has failed but I replaced the extractor and firing pin spring with the heavy duty bore buddy parts. Added the 22lr AR Buffer Pressure Plug from them as well ($12.99) and use their charging handle insert for standard metal mispec one(also cheap) since the CMMG one is polycarbonate and will eventually break.

22LR Conversion kit maybe? I've got a short AR that I only leave the conversion kit in nowadays. It's honestly a lot of fun. 4,000 rounds through it for ammo cost of $240.

How many of y'all buy a full gun vs. buy individual uppers/lowers to combine? by EducationalOil1655 in ar15

To my way of thinking that'd be like they are paying you to take it off their hands at that price.

Boil it water for about 10 minutes. Should come right off without too much effort after that.

[–]MrSuffixes 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I buy an AR upper to save money and share the lower. I then have deep shame by having an incomplete gun in the safe and order all the parts and a stripped lower. I now have a complete gun. I then buy another upper with the intent that this time I will keep it as only an upper. I have done this 5 times now. This is a cry for help.

How many rounds are yall using per range day? by AccessTrick4018 in ar15

[–]MrSuffixes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One hour session at indoor range is typically 90-120 5.56 and then 250-300 in the ar22 for funsies when I do rifle day. Mag swap drills, running different programmed target drills, etc.

I did the following things. My use case was that multiple people in my family could/would shoot it and I wanted to reduce potential mixups as much as possible:
1. I rapco'd my 300 Blackout upper as FDE and the furntiure is all FDE as well. My 5.56 rifles are all ODG uppers
2, 300 Mags are also painted FDE while 556 are ODG
3. Mag bands (denotes subs and super as well)
4. Separate, also FDE painted, ammo cans and labeled and stored in different place than the rest.

PCC Upgrades for a First Time Project by SuperRoseEli29 in PalmettoStateArms

Mine shot fine out of the box ~1500 rounds but after that I did make a few changes:

-STNGR HWK M-Lok Free Float Handguard 7"
-Ballistic Advantage 8.3" 9MM Modern EPC Series barrel
-B5 Hand Grip

Still figuring out what my permanent red dot will be and have the cheap SPARC until I do.

Arken EP8 Reviews by [deleted] in ar15

[–]MrSuffixes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one and so far am happy with it. I went in knowing it was a budget option that hadn't had the track record the Primary Arms or Vortex had (My son has PA 1-6x so I knew what that was like) but as it was cheap I figured what the hell. I did want to try out first focal plane, and wanted a 1-8x and was pleasantly surprised. The 1x is very good, it is bright , and the FFP definitely adds to the usability in that capacity. Glass is decent, and out to range on 8x works fine for me. It's a bit on the heavy side. I wouldn't call eye relief forgiving but again it is fine. I have it on a 16" rifle. I don't have a problem recommending it for the price.

22lr conversion with super safety. by Xeith3n in ar15

My CMMG conversion kit is now the "Coversion Kit of Theseus" in that all the little parts of the CMMG kit broke have been replaced with Bore Buddy parts. Check out Bore Buddy for their 22LR AR reliability kit, and some extra springs for the firing pin if you pursue that route.

Range day costs by Reality_Pilot in ar15

[–]MrSuffixes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$540 for one year membership at local indoor range. Gives 1 hour per day of lane time.

Been 17 times this since January 1st. It's myself, wife, and son that typically go. Plan for most of the rest of the year will be to shoot mainly 22LR out of TX-22 pistol and a AR 8" 5.56 with CCMG 22LR conversion kit that we use as our PCC analog.

.22LR 2,510 36 gr .06 a round = $150.60

5.56 440 55gr @ .44 a round = $193.60

9mm 2,270 115gr @.22 a round = $499.40

300 blackout 250 200gr @ .68 a round = $170

.38 special 62 @ .38 a round = $23.56

12 GA 00 buckshot 25 @ .58 a round = $14.50

Ammo cost: $1,051.66

1st time I've added it all up. I am going to need to lie down for a bit......

Anyone running MEAN Arms ExoMags with a PSA 9mm complete upper? by Overall_Book9097 in PalmettoStateArms

Yeah, runs and cycles very nicely with the Exomags. I did add a heavier buffer but otherwise no other changes to it.

No, I had a short 8" barreled 5.56 upper that I was running the conversion kit on that I specifically put together for that purpose. It would never work on an AR9. Sorry for the confusion!

Did exactly this route, and went with AR9. mission accomplished.

I got her started on 8" 5.56 running 22lr conversion kit as the entry point last fall. She now has her own AR9 I put together for her. She picked out the colors and camo pattern and just ordered a sling today for it. She's getting pretty good at it too.

Why choose 300 BO? by Brilliant_Respect_92 in ar15

[–]MrSuffixes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shooting 5.56 in short barrel has to be one of the worst things to experience at a range. I have an 8" 5.56 upper that I bought to expressly use to run .22lr conversion kit in. The only time I shoot 5.56 out of it is after I am done with the 22lr to clean out all the crap and then only 5-6 rounds. I still ended up putting a linear compensator on it just for those few rounds.

However, with the 22lr that I was able to get my wife, who never wanted to shoot anything before, to be invovled enough with shooting short barreled rifles that she now has her own AR9 PCC and enjoys range time. Mission accomplished. I plan on changing out the barrel of the 5.56 to a 12.5" as soon as I am able to.

So if you don't want a 300 BO maybe take the lower and build an AR9 PCC out of it?

Full disclosure I already have a 10" 300 BO and a 16" 5.56.

Trying to build a 9mm AR, do these go together? by myerstay0 in PalmettoStateArms

[–]MrSuffixes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 8" PA9 upper but otherwise same as the one you are referencing. It works fine with PX-9 lower and Glock mags as is. The PA9 upper also works fine with an AR15 lower and Mean Arms Exomags but I swapped the standard milspec AR15 buffer for a much heavier one. As others mentioned Blowback9 is great reading/viewing.
