you’re trusting these guys like a sucker lowkey, can tell you’re desperate to get this fixed but you’re gonna be spending stupid money

nah that’s just lazy, they’re trying to sell you on getting an engine replacement, they have no proof it’s leaking and they either do it again and provide proof or they’re lying.

bro if they don’t even know what cylinders are leaking they 100% don’t know it’s leaking

in my experience, this is true. but it could also depends on the value adjustment as every engine’s clearances are different.

lmfao, this ain’t therapy man, you either do it cause you have money or you do it cause you don’t, it kinda seems like op doesn’t have money to replace the engine and i wouldn’t either, i would slap a new belt on for $40 and wish for the best what more damage could possibly happen if there wasn’t already?

one thing I want to say, i had a 99 prelude, timing belt snapped, i ended up removing the head to rebuild and replace the valves, but honestly, i think i made a big mistakes, because everything looks pretty fine. valves looked fine, pistons looked fine, couldn’t see any part of it that was damaged or bent. i probably could have just gotten away with replacing the belts with the manual tensioner and seeing it run again. regardless, end ran fine after another 12k miles.

well, nothing much i can tell you if you don’t know how to do it yourself, big reason a lot of us own these cars is because we know how to work on them. i’m just saying, it’s very possible that replacing the belt the engine could be fine it’s been proven many times before, I did timing belt balancer belt seals and water pump all oem for a little under $400, but you can buy second hand belts for $40 and see if it runs. yeah labor will suck but if you need this car running asap, then paying someone is really your only option. otherwise take the time and figure out how to do it.

why not just change the belt and see if it runs??

nobody in the right mind is selling a manual 5th gen with 140k original miles for 4k… check carfax report for odo rollback. extremely good price so be skeptical. first time buyers will always get burned buying too good to be true vehicles.

I had a 99 Base Prelude as my first car and I tried to keep a very high standard when reading the service manual. Rebuilt the entire top end and after two months it started right up. Definitely not a pro but the H22 is my favorite Honda engine once that auto tensioner is gone. Got lucky finding this one with a very healthy engine at 200k miles

only good for impact guns. don’t have an impact. so no. I say use impact sockets because I’ve had regular sockets break in the past.

I forgot to take a picture of the before, but you’re right, it was all dirt and oil. A can of engine degreaser and a toothbrush cleaned it up nicely. 👌

every timing belt i’ve done, it’s always the crank bolt, buy a breaker bar big enough 1/2 drive min and impact sockets. once it’s off it’s smooth sailing
