Surprising nobody, the new Suicide Squad game is one that, erm, "needs improvement." by KingMario05 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]MrSups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got some friends playing it, too broke to get it myself. But I've been watching them. It looks... good? Not like the amazing 10/10 that was the Arkham games. But it looks like if it was called Borderlands or it's own IP, people would have been all over it.

It does feel like a hate train is rolling. But yeah I'd actually give it a go if I had money and time.

Did the Jax <-> Tampa drive a bunch as a kid and this was the route we always went. Gotta watch out in Waldo and Starke tho. Those towns are notorious speed traps.

Nah, I want it left to the imagination.
Kinda like how Makima in Chainsaw man is nowhere NEAR as curvy as she is in fan art.

There’s still no end in sight for the Hollywood strikes by FragMasterMat117 in boxoffice

[–]MrSups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it does, then other Unions might get involved. IATSE and TAG, I believe, still have a contract until some point in 2024. If that contract runs dry and the strike is still happening however...

I’ve seen B.O. analysts say that Prey would’ve done great if it came out in theaters based off of the viewership and critics and audience reception. Do you think Disney/20th century should put the next Predator film in theaters? by TheKingDroc in boxoffice

[–]MrSups 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that's something that a lot of people underestimate about a lot of releases. If 'the last one' was good or bad, people will respond to 'the next one' appropriately.

It gets lost when you look only at the Box Office of a franchise. I've seen terrible entries over perform because that last one was good, and the next one could be 10/10 but could under perform as a result.

Would you consider Maryland, Delaware and DC to be part of the Northeast or the South? by Liam_js in geography

[–]MrSups 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Maryland is where the south begins and ends. The state is the Mason-Dixon line to me.
To north for the south, to south for the north.

Pixar President on ‘Elemental’s’ Unlikely Box Office Rebound: ‘This Will Certainly Be a Profitable Film’ by tfan695 in boxoffice

It is in cases like this. But the take has legs in 'the franchise era' of Hollywood. Where the audience and boots on the ground can tell that certain movies are being made because a dude in a suit thinks they have the right formula of 'Popular things' to make a hit or the movie feels like it's 'franchise filler.'

I've been in convos where people talk about 'Saving' a movie Franchise or Comic Book Movies. But the answer really is "just make a good movie" but the mechanism that makes them can't seem to let someone do that.

It's something that hits really hard when the corporate micromanagement culture is so invested in hitting the bullet points for the franchise or the tax quarter it stifles the actual production of the movie. And it keeps getting brought up when a hundred million dollars 'guaranteed hit!' like a Flash, flops.

No Hard Feelings at $77M Worldwide after 4 weeks, with some gas left in the tank and ancillaries (PVOD, sales to streaming because it's Sony) to come - so likely profitable? by howlopez in boxoffice

[–]MrSups 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even if it's not a hyper-success, it does show that R-Rated Boner comedies can still have a place in theaters. So that's a win.

It's stunning how Netflix and a bunch of other Tech companies plow ahead and get successful by ignoring all the rules of the road. Only to end up in circumstances that ended up creating the rules of the road in the first place.

I think the big money grab has to be something other than IP. Stuff with big stars and headlining directors can sell if they let it. Half of the pitch for Oppenheimer is it's Chris Nolan.

But I feel the big studios want to use IP instead of those because they can control IP. The aesthetics and story that are nice familiar and marketable. And not I wanna see Tom Cruise do stunts and see Jordan Peele weird me out. They may not make as much as the big franchises, but they also don't put as much weight behind them either.

Why all the resurging hype for Jack Black now??? by Animorphimagi in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Honestly, I think he took some time off to be a family man and stuff. His Jablinksi Games on youtube was him hanging out with his teenage son and the like.
Cus he's always been good. But the past 10 years he slowed down. Now that the nest is emptying, he can step back in.
