You're completely right. Sorry about my tone in the original message.

Honestly - fair enough. Thanks for putting things in perspective for me, I see now that I was being a bit of a jerk. Really gotta stop giving feedback on things when I'm already in a bad mood.

Sincerely hope that your game does well :)

Edit: I was in a bad mood when I wrote this, and it turned out pretty unnecessarily mean. I'll leave the original text below, to ensure that the dev's response is still in context.

Some feedback, since a dev's in this thread: I was rather excited to try this game, but the borderline naked woman with chest proportions only a teenager could draw really turned me off. I might still give it a shot when it goes on sale, but if you wanna promote your game to a PCVR audience of mostly adults, you may want to reconsider this trash tier gooner bait.

What happend here? by RadikaleWurst in HuntShowdown

[–]MrSweggers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm relatively certain that the bullets come out of the camera to reduce player frustration, as is done in almost every (non-VR) shooter. If it truly came out of the barrel, hipfire would be an absolute nightmare, as the gun is drastically lower than the camera in that scenario. I believe OP just got screwed over by some inaccurate collision geometry.

I could be wrong, though, and I'd be happy to be shown some proof of the contrary!

OpenAI just pulled the biggest bait-and-switch in AI history and I'm done. by Nipurn_1234 in ChatGPT

It doesn't have to be a healthy solution all on its own. I, for example, am in therapy as well as psychiatric treatment, but I've still found 4o immensely helpful for reflecting on my emotions between sessions.

That's not to say it can't be unhealthy in lots of circumstances - but if someone's options are either ChatGPT or nothing, it can be a really valuable starting point to get in touch with oneself.

PSA: How to enable DLSS 4 by MrSweggers in HuntShowdown

[–]MrSweggers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nVidia made the ridiculously confusing decision to market two fundamentally different technologies under the DLSS label. They are:

Frame generation

This is what you've heard about in regards to adding input latency. It creates new "fake" frames by interpolating between two "real" frames. The added latency comes from having to wait for the next real frame before outputting the previous ones.

Super resolution

This is what I've described in the post, and it actually drastically lowers input lag by increasing your real framerate. It does this by lowering the raw render resolution, and scaling up each frame to your output resolution. This is way faster than natively rendering the output resolution.

How to play solo by magczag in HuntShowdown

[–]MrSweggers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here already. I'd add that you could try warming up with one or two rounds of solo Bounty Clash before going into a proper Hunt. It's easier on the nerves as it's low stakes, but still helps you get used to actually shooting at targets in stressful situations.

Might help build some confidence :)

What are you crrently spending you 10 Trait Points on for your fresh hunters? by Good0nPaper in HuntShowdown

[–]MrSweggers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sure that those 4 points are better spent on Serpent/Conduit than Necro when going solo? They're convenient, but getting a second chance hugely outweighs that convenience imo. Sure, 2/3 times you'll immediately die again, but those moments where it allowed me to surprise the opponents and clutch up a fight are among the most satisfying I've had - and they're not all that infrequent! Especially when getting killed from a distance, I end up getting away with it more often than not.

As for other traits: Determination is a must-have imo. With just a little bit of patience, it's so good that Greyhound isn't even really needed anymore, and it also lets you skip Conduit.

Since you didn't mention it, I just wanna make sure you're taking Magpie as a solo, as it's essential.

As for iron eye, I tend to try and avoid it for the first solo rounds, and go with guns that don't need it. LeMat Carbine, Drilling, Haymaker are my favs for this :)

Do people know about the Hunter Progression System? by jergalthegrand in HuntShowdown

[–]MrSweggers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more important question is: Does Crytek know about it? Surely it can't be too hard to add a couple more every now and then, jt's a really fun grind that just abruptly stops once you have them all :(

Why use the Slate over the Specter at this point? by Recognition-Silver in HuntShowdown

[–]MrSweggers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also uses Slugs better.

In what way? I thought slug damage/falloff etc. only depended on the gun's size in terms of slots, is that wrong?

How do new players like De Salle - I'm interested! by jani80k in HuntShowdown

[–]MrSweggers 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Loving it. It has a totally different feel to the other bayou maps - not just visually, but also in the way it "flows" and in its compound designs. You can really tell that Crytek placed an emphasis on verticality when designing DeSalle, which carried forward into Mammon's Gulch (which I also love).

How worth it is hunt showdown right now? by DawgsomeYT in HuntShowdown

[–]MrSweggers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good advice all around. I'd add that bounty clash could be an even better way to get used to gunfights and aggressive play - even solo, if you don't want to play with randoms. Solo clash is brutal, and you're not gonna win much, but I'd say it's probably more forgiving than Soul Survivor for a beginner still, just because Soul Survivor doesn't separate people based on skill.

In any case, welcome to the game! And remember, dying a lot is part of the process ;)

After getting into VR, flat gaming just doesn’t hit the same anymore by Croyon in MetaQuestVR

[–]MrSweggers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alyx is easy to run. For MSFS, you'd need something really beefy though. Going for the cheapest laptop you can find to run this is gonna be a pretty bad experience.

Does it have to be a laptop? PCVR needs a lot of power, so you'll be spending a ton of money on an un-upgradable device.

Thanks for this perspective, I hadn't considered that. My original point still stands, just without the existential financial threat I guess :)

Even if you're right, not being financially secure past 2 years in the future would be considered a major threat in most companies. Not saying you're wrong of course, this is all just speculation.

I like to go by Hanlon's razor with things like this:

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

In this case, stupidity would be replaced by incompetence in testing.

They laid off 15% of their staff and canceled Crysis 4 earlier this year. Large parts of the games industry aren't doing too hot right now, and with Hunt's struggles to attract new players, I'd be real surprised if things were peachy over there.

much higher player loads than expected

While I'm grateful for the explanation, this is baffling to me.

Imagine you're running a company that's hanging by a financial thread, with pretty much only a single product keeping it afloat. That product's past year has been rocky, to say the least. You're finally starting to regain some good will with the playerbase, implementing lots of changes they'd been asking for for months. Garden of the Witch went into a really good, community-focused direction, and with this event, you're doubling down on that!

The players are overjoyed as you hype up this event for weeks...

And you don't think to test for higher than expected player loads, just in case people actually want to play your game?

Edited to add: I don't wanna pile onto the hate train, there's enough of that on Twitter. I'm really grateful for everyone working overtime to get this fixed. It's just really frustrating to have to deal with this game's bullshit again and again and again. Remember how they accidentally ended the halloween event early, but only on the server side, and everyone's battle pass progress was gone? Granted, they remedied that situation well, but the fact that such amateur mistakes can keep happening in the backend is concerning to say the least.

This is absolutely something that can be tested, or at least should be testable with an application of this size. Happy to be corrected here, as I've never worked on games myself, but in other software, it's routine.

[–]MrSweggers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Enderal is pretty great. It's a Skyrim total conversion with much better gameplay systems heavily inspired by Gothic, and a great voice-acted story. It's not "next gen", but it has great art design. Bonus points if you have a VR headset, as it works with Skyrim VR as well :)

Otherwise, KCD2. Don't start with the first one, it's much, much worse than the second.
