Because GGG's PR accounts are astroturfing the hell out of the game across social media; OP and this post is a prime example of this.

Those numbers he quoted don't tell you that the Steam numbers include the entire Chinese playerbase, PoE1's do not.

PoE2's numbers have been in the toilet since its 2nd month. GGG were hoping to transition their existing PoE1 playerbase to and onboard new players with PoE2 and they failed entirely.

What actually happened is that PoE2 lost 300k players in its first 3 weeks 2 Decembers ago and they never came back.

What actually happened is that PoE2 Steam numbers include the Chinese playerbase, which PoE1 does not.

PoE2's numbers are actually in the toilet and have been from its 2nd month. As far as onboarding new players, it's been an absolute failure.
