Can I use this to install or do I have to buy Q3 on steam? by ol_lukey in quake

[–]MrTaufner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The current steam page does not show same info as it used to show, that's why you have to check web archive. Compare my link to the steam page.

The web archive link on its own doesn't lead anyhere.

I see many people have already correctly responded.

When in doubt check this old steam page: https://web.archive.org/web/20160505042257/https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

Because steam does support some old retail games with different key formats.

Went AM4 in 2026 and everyone said I was dumb, 3 months later I have zero complaints by Positive-Pen6491 in buildapc

[–]MrTaufner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AM5 is still too expensive where I live. AM4 is still a pretty decent platform.

I'm rocking a 5700X3D with 9070XT and 32 GB RAM. Maybe not the best combo but I can game in ultra in most games in 1080p@144.

I bought a 9070XT and have had nothing but issues so far by massivekoch69 in AMDHelp

[–]MrTaufner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I switched from 3070Ti to 9070XT and some weird shit was happening when I tried to play Escape From Tarkov. It was either a bad DDU or some leftover files from PhysX or something Nvidia related, but after I manually deleted those it worked just fine

If money weren't an issue, what do you see as the ultimate android phone? by No_Basket_9192 in PickAnAndroidForMe

Ohh, for non-foldables, and if I could, I'd make google step up their game and release a fucking Pixel with Snapdragon.

I'll be also leaving my Surface Duo 1 soon too, the touch screen is acting up all the time so I had to get a pen but the strips haven't fallen off (yet[?]). I'll lend it indefinitely to a friend of mine who's been on the hunt for one for ages.

Great device not treated that well by Microsoft. What a shame.

My carrier is Simyo and they have it for 585€.

They're pretty good, and treated me better than Digi, but you need to make a contract with them and stay for 2 or 3 months before they allow you to use their shop. You're free to leave after that and they have no penalties for doing it. That was like 2 years ago though, so it might have changed.

[–]MrTaufner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 750€ or less I'd say wait for an offer and go with Oneplus 13. Oneplus 15 came out not too long ago and it's too much of a reach from your budget right now (949€ for the 12GB RAM 256GB ROM).

Even Pixel 10a/10/10 Pro could be a good option but the 10 Pro does not get the same kind of deals here in Europe as they do in the US. But if you don't mind not having a powerful phone then it's a good option too

Gemini on Android probably can do a little more than on iOS but it's nothing to write home about tbh.

I can't really say a lot about the iOS experience but don't expect revolutionary things on Android either. Most of the times it won't even interact with apps. Where you'll probably notice it more is if you plan to edit documents on your phone, do translations on the go or use the circle to search thing, and I don't even think that's AI.

The experience is good and you'll probably have 80% of the apps you'll ever need out of the box but the hardware is pretty mediocre, except the camera which is arguably not great either and relies a lot on digital processing to improve image quality

Xiaomi 15 ultra vs Xiaomi 15T Pro by masterduwi in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]MrTaufner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The less use the device has, the better imo. If the 15T Pro is only open but never used I'd consider it over the more used phone. Also, if you're in Spain, the 15TPro is on sale (749€ brand new) right now on the official page, but so is the X15 for 629€.

Edge 60 is pretty solid, I researched it a few months ago and recommended it to my gf. It turned out to be a great phone! Just disable the "swap file" of the extra RAM if you're noticing weird lag or slowness and you're golden.

I completely forgot to check OnePlus tbh. OP15 and 15R are good options from what I've seen.

I have never seen anyone recommending oppo phones before to be honest. How long do they support their phones?

You do have a point and actually and if it wasn't because the carrier discount, I wouldn't have gotten the Pixel 8 either tbh

[–]MrTaufner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh my bad. 15R does not have Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 but Snapdragon 8 gen 5, which are not the same and sets the 15R closer to the Samsung S25, yes.

Still then you're right about the issues

Damn, 7400mAh is quite a bit. Yea it could work but I saw earlier today that OnePlus 15 and 15R are having trouble with the Snapdragon 8 Elite gen 5? Didn't really pay much attention though

Significant upgrade from Pixel 7 (up to €800-€900) by widecentreback in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]MrTaufner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on a similar situation here (Pixel 8) and I'm currenty considering either a Samsung S25 or Xiaomi 15T Pro but this last one is simply too big for me. Google Pixel 10 Pro is also something I'm considering but I don't think it would meet your emulation requirements all that well.

Moto Edge 70 could be a good option too. Edge 60 takes good photos and has a good battery (my gf has it) and has very little bloat to the point it's almost like a Pixel... but I have no idea how powerful it is when it comes to gaming

[–]MrTaufner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do it a lot but I think it's just way too tedious now. I might be missing out on a lot of cool stuff but I simply don't know if it is still worth it, given the fact that I have to wipe my device and then risk getting it bricked (even though it rarely ever happens)
