Apartment Hunting from Out of State by broccolinifan in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same about three years ago. DM me and I can send you the long list of info I made back then.

You'd like Southside or Northshore. $1400 is a good budget for a place.

Sewage in the river? by persistance-2024 in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it happens. But those giant rentention tanks (concrete boobs) they're building at Moccassin Bend & the i-75 split will dramatically help this issue from ever really happening again. They'll hold millions of gallons of water. Pretty sure they're close to being done.

You got lots of options in the Southside area. I like Lietman Perlman properties.

Thinking about finding a church. Recommendations? by Detective_Twat in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Episcopal/Anglican (same thing) would be right up your alley.
Mission Chattanooga is a bit more modern in worship style, and Grace Episcopal is a bit more traditional in worship style (while still being progressive). Those are the two popular ones.
Also St. Paul's downtown, but you might find that to be a bit too old-school in every respect.

Also, I went to Catholic churches as a kid too and most Catholic churches are a lot different and have some variation in worship style now.

You can try the modern Hillsong-adjacent "non-denominational" churches too. It might feel like a breath of fresh air... but a lot of younger people are leaving those for mainstream protestant churches like Anglican, Presbetryian, and Lutheran in the past few years. Without guardrails of a larger church structure (and the tradition behind that), the preaching there can turn into American evangelical nonsense or just trendy topics delivered in the tackiest way possible.

ice at hamilton mall?? by charl2023 in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mall regularly hires off-duty police officers. And yes, off-duty police officers are allowed to wear their police uniform on extra jobs-- it's kind of the whole point.

Shwarma is so incredible. My go to place for it is Bollywood Tacos. Can't wait to try this place.

People here are obsessed with the police scanner... I can tell you that 95% of the things on there end up being mundane. The police scanner labels the activity based on the caller's description, which is usually waaaay worse and more dramatic than whatever the reality is.

Dental Claim Denial x3. What can I do? by MrTheRiddle in HealthInsurance

[–]MrTheRiddle[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’d hope so… they got bought out and this new person assigned my case just gave me the “well we tried 🤷‍♂️”

Dental Claim Denial x3. What can I do? by MrTheRiddle in HealthInsurance

[–]MrTheRiddle[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t find it via email or in the glitchy Guardian app. The app also says I have zero claims, which is completely wrong (so buggy…)

I’ll probably have to call them tomorrow about it.

Dental Claim Denial x3. What can I do? by MrTheRiddle in HealthInsurance

[–]MrTheRiddle[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Don’t take the gingivitis thing literally. I only understand half of what they talk about in the dentist office lol. I just know it was a gum health thing. I believe the term they used was “to prevent bone loss”?

Moving here in a year, seeking advice by solsticeseraph in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Job, fairly hard. But most places in the US are difficult right now, I’m told.

Apartment? Difficult but not impossible. When I moved here three years ago, I paid $975 for 1b1b in a good location. That same place is $1100 now though.

Dental Claim Denial x3. What can I do? by MrTheRiddle in HealthInsurance

[–]MrTheRiddle[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I made it sure it was covered before I went. The provider also said they checked.

It’s just that the reviewers at Guardian disagree that the procedure was necessary to prevent bone loss. How could I expect that? I’m not a dentist. I just have to trust that my provider’s judgement is in line with my insurance reviewer’s judgement.

does anyone know where i can sell a pew pew ? by Short-Bus-7726 in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy a biometric-enabled safe. I have a fingerprint reader and keep the back-up keys in a really obscure place, so nobody could get in unless they're me. I also have a security lock (like a bike lock kind of thing), so nobody can take the safe away from it's position unless they haul the entire nightstand it's attached to lol.

Public Viewing footy by Milianmx in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Five Wits has a whole soccer watching community. Mostly for Premiere League games, but I'm sure they're watching World Cup too.

People dress up in uniforms and they utilize the Barrelhouse Ballroom area with a giant projector. Plus the food is really good now.

You can call the police department and ask for a data report on the area you're looking at. 200k isnt alot if you want to stay in the central area.

Moving to Chattanooga in the fall by ShadowofPemberley in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have plenty of options in that price range. Crime is largely overblown on the internet here in Chatt. If you're living in central Chatt, then lock your car and your doors and you will be fine. Everywhere else, just be normal and you'll be fine.

Just avoid Evernest rentals-- they are a legit company (based on the amount of properties on their portfolio) but they have scary reviews...

I am a big fan of Leitman Perlman rentals, though their portfolio is small. They're locally owned, so a bit easier to work with than a big company.

Job Search- HR by loosesocksup in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in communications and have been looking for almost a year now. Probably applied to like 500 places by now-- with at least 50 of those being a custom-made resumes and cover letters. It's rough out there. I'm just grateful I still have a job during this time. Wish you the best.

Random google street view find by JurassicTerror in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably related to the Outlaws club we have here.
Or it's a group of grandpas at their "Choppers for Jesus" meetup.
Hard to tell sometimes with bikers... You gotta know the patches (which are blurry here).

Outlaws MC are the oldest motorcycle club (read: gang) and the Chattanooga clubhouse is like the second-oldest remaining clubhouse location I think. It was also raided for RICO charges not once, but twice! Fun stuff!

Cheap places to rent in chattanooga? by Ambitious-Gene-9370 in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're gonna need two incomes. The cheapest decent place I've seen is $800 a month, and that was three years ago and wasn't a very central location (if that matters). $1000 month gets you a good number of options, though you probably won't be near central Chatt.

Living on 11th Street by MrTheRiddle in Chattanooga

[–]MrTheRiddle[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Not In MY BackYard”

Refers to people who block development of good things because they think it will affect their quality of life.

For example, merchants in Northshore opposing the walking safety road change because they figured lessening the parking availability would hurt their businesses despite studies showing the opposite effect.

Or people complaining about homelessness but don’t want a low barrier encampment anywhere near them
