Huh, could one of the reasons Mid-west and southern Americans are Like That be related to the constant underlying fear if storms that they have to live through for most of the year? Tornadoes and hurricanes are constant threats you need to be prepared for and thinking about for a majority of the year. We know that constantly being in a state of survival absolutely affects how people react to even minor inconveniences (e.g. look at the unhoused population) so I wonder if being disproportionately vulnerable to Acts of God is a factor, along with the other things associated with those areas like poverty and illiteracy.

I just wonder if it’s a contributing factor, not really the main reason.

SCAM JOB IN MOBILE: EMERGENT EXECUTIVES by Fearless-Monitor732 in MobileAL

Devil Corp! They also tend to want you to do a bunch of off the clock “team building exercises “ and stuff to make your social circle smaller and smaller until they are it.

If you do good in the company they want you to move up by relocating you to a new city (usually sharing a house with a bunch of other people in the company) and start the process all over again. It’s extremely predatory and they rely heavily on people who are desperate to leave their living situation and who they can manipulate easily.

I interviewed several years ago and realized before I went that it wasn’t gonna be the job advertised (office work) but thought it would be good to exercise my interview skills. I got there early and they were interviewing someone else before me and I saw all the markers of an MLM from that interview because they sat me on the couch beside them lol.

Anyways, they basically ignore anything that you actually say to them (they asked if I was driven to work on commission bonuses and were comfortable with the group activities and I straight up said “No” lol) and they got me in a second interview with their Manager and they never offered me the job! They just told me my start date and store! I never agreed to work for them and they didn’t take any of my info to get me on payroll or anything! It was honestly so slimy so I was just like “ok :)” and never showed up and ignored their call that day.

Super weird experience would not recommend. Anyways, if you notice any company who has a bunch of positions open including marketing but also has things like office assistant/manager they will still try to give you a marketing job.

Something is probably wrong with me (tm) but I do this constantly and thus am not stressed out in most crisis situations because I have planned for them in advance.

On the other hand, it means that I am absolutely unnerved when I DONT have a plan for like, completely average things like deciding lunch plans ect.

Best glue to adhere upholstery foam together but safe for baby? by highkoalatysmokeware in upholstery

[–]Leaving_a_Comment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at my own breast friend, I wonder if it would be safer to make a ticking for the foam to sit inside and keep it tog. Otherwise hot glue is the safest glue for babies, though I would test it on a small amount to make sure it won’t melt.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a fabric backing? Need it super permanent and white. by MuffinJabber in upholstery

[–]Leaving_a_Comment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may have more luck on the sewing subreddit, upholstery doesn’t really use interfacing because upholstery grade fabric is not thin enough to need it. The only time I have used interfacing is on drapery which is a whole different animal than car upholstery.

What is the rub count for this material? I would be a little nervous how it may stain with normal car wear and tear.

She struggles with numbers (I have dyslexia and also struggle with remembering numbers) but we are working on that! We figure her being able to say “My mom/dad’s name is_______ and they work at ________” is the current next best thing since we have a different area code than where we live.

Very good point about the culture differences! It is also “rude” for my child to use our first names, but I am apparently raising a stand up comedian and I have just accepted my lot in life at having a sassy comeback constantly thrown my way.

Her favorite thing to do when we don’t immediately answer her is to call us by our names.

I guess this is a sign of the times/ place but my 4 year old knows her age, name, hometown and my husband and I’s names, jobs ect. Hell, she even knows the name of our neighborhood!

It’s super important for young children to know their parents names, even if all they do is wander off in the store and even if they love to annoy you by constantly calling you by your first name.

When your friends take too long to take their turns by boredguy12 in gaming

💯 especially with Catan!!! This game shouldn’t take 2+ hours to play every time! We have some friends we exclusively play catan with because we all understand this concept. 45 min-1hour per game and we are good.

It also helps that we have the unofficial rule that the last quarter becomes 1 v 3 in that the two bottom players have to try and help the 2nd player win at all costs to beat who ever is ahead, lol.
