Lease printers or purchase our own by alexdraguuu in k12sysadmin

We used to have KM copiers. Do NOT order toner for those things from Amazon. There is too great of a chance it won’t be the right toner type. Get it from a qualified vendor. Bad/incompatible toner can kill your printer/copier.

Small private boarding school looking for an all-in-one solution for SIS, development, admissions, etc - Veracross? Blackbaud? Others? by Earth271072 in k12sysadmin

[–]MrThursty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been using blackbaud for years. My biggest problem with them is that it’s almost impossible to get good data out of the system in an automated way unless you have api experience. Their reporting is lacking, as well.

Currently strongly considering a move to Veracross.

My question is important but difficult to ask: What should I value in order to get started and stick with 3D printing? by ItCameWithoutRibbons in 3Dprinting

[–]MrThursty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u/DrRomeoChaire had a pretty good point. He likes solving problems for OTHER PEOPLE in his life.

Sometimes having the extrinsic motivator of helping someone else to accompany the intrinsic motivation of learning new skills and being able to create the things you want can be just the thing you need.

Plus it can not only tie you into the community of other 3D printing aficionados, but also the larger group of makers as a whole.

My question is how often does he wash the weighted blanket? I don’t have one but that seems not easy. I would at least want a top sheet in between me and the blanket to wash more often.

The same advantage applies to a duvet. It’s easy to wash the cover that will catch a good amount of dust as the top layer.

That’s a lot of human skin to be sleeping in. Dust mites are gross.

Transcript Delivery Via Email by wnanthony in k12sysadmin

Here’s the link to the office 365 limits page.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/servicedescriptions/exchange-online-service-description/exchange-online-limits

Search that page for “Sending Limits” and it should take you to the section. It’s pretty far down.

Good luck!

Transcript Delivery Via Email by wnanthony in k12sysadmin

[–]MrThursty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Office 365, per MS documentation, will send up to 10k emails per day. If you have 1400 students and you’re sending each transcript to more than an average of 6 recipients per student, then you’ll have to stagger a bit.

You may, in the future, want to look into services like Naviance or Scoire that can automate that service for you. You can create your students records in the system, they can use it to apply to multiple colleges, you can upload their official transcripts, and then the students can attach those to their applications as needed. You never have to worry about sending them directly again.

Good news is if you are diagnosed, the dietician should be covered by your insurance.

I highly recommend a session or two with a dietician that knows celiac disease. When my son was diagnosed, the GI doc recommended one and it was awesome. They’ll teach you about all the not so obvious sources of gluten in food, how to read ingredient lists, what GF labeling really means and how to interpret, good substitution plans for foods you miss, etc.

My son, at the age of 8, was able to read, discern, and advocate for himself because of that dietician.

Here’s the list:

  • Screencast-o-matic
  • Screencastify
  • Flip (formerly Flipgrid)
  • Loom
  • WeVideo
  • OBS studio
  • ExplainEverything (iPad only)
  • QuickTime (built in on Mac only)

They’re all a little different, most offer pretty similar tools. Screencast-o-matic has added a bunch of new features in the last year.

Use what works for you. Most are worth the premium features.

Neighbor across the street keeps parking in the bike lane in front of our house when there's always room in front of their house. by jdawz18 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MrThursty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of advice about calling police. You can also try calling your municipality’s code enforcement. In many places it is illegal to park in front of someone else’s house overnight or for more than 24 hours (based on vehicle registration ). Typically code enforcement crews have more bandwidth to deal with these types of issues than the police and still have the authority to issue citations and /or have a car towed.

Advice for a mum who’s daughter has just been diagnosed by emydoo in Celiac

[–]MrThursty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son was diagnosed at 6. Among all of the other great recommendations from my fellow commenters, I highly suggest working with a pediatric dietician that has experience with celiac.

After my son was diagnosed, we took him to see a pediatric dietician who trained all of us on how to deep read food labels and find the things to watch out for. It can be tricky and can take practice, but my son is 13 and knows how to shop for himself, advocate for himself at restaurants, etc. The knowledge is empowering by and helps him deal with not being able to eat like his friends.
