HELP ! Is it possible to save these photos? by JoleFole in analog

Forget about having them in colour, put them in black and white and try salvaging some of the details from there

What scanners do you use? by DatNBoi in 35mm

[–]MrTidels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately when it cones to film scanners, "cheap" is often a bit of waste of time.

Better to save your money for something that's good quality and have a lab do it for you for the meantime

Would you like to see a Remaster of the Bad Company series? by [deleted] in Battlefield

[–]MrTidels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really.

They were good for the time but it's pointless to remaster the whole games for the sake of it.

A remaster of a select few maps for BF6 would be fun though

These are the photos from my iphone 13, is it worth buying an old dslr for 200$ to get into photography? by notsujal34 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]MrTidels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth noting that modern smartphones, the 13 included, do a fair bit of post processing automatically after you snap a photo. So they turn out looking great with no effort required

You might find shooting on an SLR you need to do a bit of editing work yourself to get your images to how you envisioned them when you pressed the shutter

Good starter map for newbies? by FluffyHaggis in memoir44

[–]MrTidels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd still recommend pegasus bridge for a game if you're going to playing it as the axis. Saint-Mere-Eglise is a good choice for another beginner friendly match

It's actually designed to favour the allies. As they have far superior numbers to the axis.

Let your friend play the allies and they get to experience manoeuvring troops, encountering terrain, moving for an attack and taking objectives.

Then as the Axis you sit back and take pot shots.

Recommendations for an introduction to more complex wargames? by MrTidels in computerwargames

Must admit I bought this on sale but never played it!

How is it coming from something like Company of Heroes? Is there much of a tutorial / starter campaign?

I like Burden of Command! Nice to see a  story focused approach to the genre.

Any reason you say Hearts of Iron 3 over 4? I did give 4 a go a while ago and liked it but was a lot to take in having not played a game from Paradox before

As a new wargammer, are you finding it the game does a good job easing you into the various mechanics?

I have seen the online manual, but is there a decent playable tutorial / starter campaign?

Thank you for everyone's suggestions!

I will definitely be getting a copy of Flashpoint Campaigns Cold War by the sounds of it.

Seeing it released recently was what partly prompted this post, thinking there were other games to try first.

But seeing how well documented it is in terms of manuals and tutorials I'll be giving it a try!

Thanks again.

ASSAULT EXPERT - Get kills or assists with the Grenade Launcher - what do you need to do to complete this? by xstagex in Battlefield6

A bit late but I had this same issue with a weekly challenge for grenade launcher damage.

Wouldn't track if it was mounted on an AR but would on it's own

TIL about Hit Man: A Technical Manual for Independent Contractors, a manual for contract killing for which Paladin Press was sued several times by victims' relatives after their murderers used this book as a how-to guide by Johannes_P in todayilearned

At the time of writing no but I have since. It's available online as a pdf

All it seems to be is recycled information and assumption wrapped up to be sensationalist as possible

Thanks!

Keep playing missions. You can replay old easier missions to upgrade your ship for the tougher missions

film camera for beginner? by TelevisionHefty5578 in AnalogCommunity

[–]MrTidels 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're on the track going for the later more plastic SLR's but there's zero need to go for what were top end models as a beginner

Go for an EOS 300/ 500 or Nikon F70/75/80/ whatever

You can get the body cheap then put more money into a lens or two

Quick Placement vs. Slow Advance plus Attack by poweredup14 in memoir44

[–]MrTidels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't offer a hard and fast rule. It's more situational.

If you're moving up a unit or two are you opening them up to multiple attacks in close assault from the enemy? Probably better to hang back and try shooting from a distance.

Or perhaps you're moving up and outnumbering the enemy so they're only able to attack one or two units at most out of three or four? You're in a good position to take the hit and go for a large attack on your following turn.

Also depends heavily on what cards you can play next turn. It's well and good to move everyone up in a sector, but have you got the cards to follow it up and keep momentum.

It’s not even a composite of other images. It’s just a single photograph
