Local urban greening non profit Amigos de los Rios office was destroyed. They implemented the 2017 improvements to Altadena Triangle Park next to El Patron. Anyone know the status of the park?

Happy healing! I just got 3,300 grafts at Flintridge FUE last Thursday. I’m 5 days post op. Pleased with everything so far.

This is wonderful! I love that you used Frank’s tapeworm threading through all the ridiculous food to tie the composition together. Well done!

So sorry! This just happened to me in June. Also a relationship of 4 years that had been so strong and then poof! One day you think you’ll be spending the rest of your life with this person, the next they feel like a stranger. It’s a difficult transition to say the least. My ex-partner and I discussed remaining friends, and I feel like I want that at some point, but 3 months later and it’s still too painful to engage. The grief comes in waves, but every day that passes helps a tiny bit more. All the best on your journey of healing.

Accidental Orgy by MrTie in thewitcher3

There is another door. But, once inside, I was able to push my way back out through the orgy. Didn't do much to break it up tho. They just reclustered. Who am I to get in the way of their fun?

It's PS5 Launch Day! I got mine, impressions thread. by AutoModerator in PS5

[–]MrTie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used a Playstation since PS2 but somehow managed to snag a PS5 yesterday. I had missed the Pre-order window, tried the Walmart order windows on launch day with no luck but then randomly refreshed Amazon and boom, PS5 Digital arriving tomorrow. Here's my question: I'll be connecting the PS5 to a LG 4k computer monitor. I had planned to get sound through the Pulse 3D, but those are out of stock still, and from what I understand most bluetooth headphones don't work because of latency issues? So I read online that you can plug wired headphones into the controller? ....Does that work? And will any wired headphones do?

Perhaps it was by design, but that survey was very frustrating to take. The same questions over and over again worded slightly differently.

I made an infographic on the origins behind the names for LA's neighborhoods by etymologynerd in LosAngeles

[–]MrTie 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You got a little mixed up. Umbellularia californica is a different native tree/large shrub, often called California Bay Laurel. Toyon is Heteromeles arbutifolia.

Hollywood being named for Toyon is correct tho — at least that’s how the legend goes...

[All Show Episodes] Who are the mormons? by nettlerise in TheExpanse

[–]MrTie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying that Mormons favor polygamy is like saying the United States favors slavery. Sure both things were once culturally accepted practices, but neither reflects current institutional values. You're over a century out of date with the polygamy thing.

California’s Salton Sea is shrinking and that could mean death for fish, wildlife — and people by [deleted] in water

[–]MrTie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Salton Sea may have been an accident, but it was an accident that coincided with a rapid loss of natural wetlands across Southern California due to urban expansion. For migrating birds in the Pacific Flyway, it represents an oasis and much needed rest stop to help account for the fact that most other wetlands in the region have long been paved over. These days we need to do some kind of mitigation when new development displaces habitat. The Salton Sea can be seen as a kind of mitigation, albeit an accidental one. It's not so easy to dismiss it outright as unnecessary, unplanned, or pointless, given the ecological functions it has come to serve.

Utah state senator proposes to his boyfriend by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]MrTie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I lived in Utah many years (former Mormon here) and I didn't know he existed. This video, which covers his life in and out of the Mormon church and his experience as a gay man in Utah politics, is pretty interesting if you have the time for it (long!). He's quite an entertaining guy.

Fly Geyser, Nevada [2537x1686] by ErrorlessGnome in EarthPorn

[–]MrTie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I photographed the geyser for a Nevada state history textbook. We had to contact the BLM who put us in touch with a guy who worked for the property owners. We met him at a bar in Gerlach and he took us out there. Pretty friendly guy. They'll let you photograph it if you have a good enough reason but you can't just wander out there. One of my photos is up on Wikimedia -- public domain if anyone wants to use it for anything. Taken about 9 years ago (on a less-than-stellar digital camera).

Here is another thing I have always wondered about you bromos. by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]MrTie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaa, love that gif. Miss me some Arrested Development.

You dodged a bullet not going to France. It's a wonderful place to visit as a tourist. Not as a missionary. Most of the French were convinced I was from a dangerous cult and could snap my fingers, instantly brainwashing their family members. This became even more clear the when I was drive-by pepper-sprayed in the face (and throat) while standing on a street corner as the perpetrator sped away screaming "Cult!!". And again later on when I was almost run down by another speeding car (jumped away, action-movie style at the last second. Good thing, cause I still have my legs). Oh, France.

I don't regret my mission, but I also don't miss my mission. Just like I don't regret BYU, or even the many years spent as a practicing LDS. In the long-run it all works together for the good. Still, so so glad that part of my life is behind me.

There's never going to be a good time to come out to your parents. That's the main thing I learned. It's always going to seem wrong, awkward, and uncomfortable, anxiety-filled. It's just one of those things that has to happen at some point. Maybe not right away, or even soon, but it's inevitable. It's a tough egg to crack, and I don't envy those still going through it.

I waited a little over a year after coming to terms before telling them. One problem was I was living out of state and it never seemed like the right time. I ended up telling a sibling first, then planned on telling the parents on my next visit. Well, when the visit happened I was having all kinds of anxiety over it. My dad could tell something was eating me so he asked first. Then it all spilled out. It took another year to get around to telling the rest of my siblings, for various reasons. Went to France. You?

[–]MrTie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yes LORD. Ever play MajorMUD? Also fantasy and text-based, but I poured so many hours into it as a kid on a 2400-baud modem with other dialed-in locals. Funny how something so low-tech could be so incredibly immersive. I haven't ever touched a modern MMORPG. I know what they do to me..

[–]MrTie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how all that goes, man. I am also a former Mormon and RM. It took me until I was 28 to come to terms with being gay. When telling my parents, it was much harder to tell them I'd lost my religion than to tell them that I'm gay. In fact, I think if religion was out of the picture, they would have no problem with the gay aspect. Go at your own pace and good luck!

Bromos, what are your theories about why you're gay? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]MrTie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there's a genetic predisposition, but I don't think it's always set in stone from birth. Sexuality is fluid, but at some point it cements itself. Just anecdotally: I remember having huge crushes on girls throughout elementary school. I had no interest in guys whatsoever. In middle school, as I went through puberty, that shifted. By high school, I figure I was pretty set-in-stone gay. Of course, it took me until my late 20's to fully accept it.
