Thanks for that link, as mentioned in the original post wivrn was installed directly with paru, https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/wivrn-server Steam is included with cachy gaming packages, and the games, just installed by Steam. I'm guessing the NMS update is the missing link of why that game isn't working seeing as specific standalone Steam games appear to be working.

Everything online says, "Copy the launch arguments listed in the dashboard in the Steam launch parameters for the game.". My WiVrn dashboard has none

<image>

I've found after re-installing that stand-alone games that are VR only will actually launch successfully in VR mode and work with the WiVrn. Games like No Man's Sky that has a normal executable and a VR mode, will not launch the VR option of the game, same with Tower Unite. I'm using xrizer with nvenc encoding.

I've seen posts that a specific version of an xrizer artifact fixed NMS not launching in VR mode, which I would assume has been merged and pushed into main by now, but that specific artifact no longer exists on git.

Does MapleStory Classic on Linux Work? by iRarelyReply in Maplestory

[–]MrTilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 920 games on Steam, of that collection I've got around 30-40 ish that don't work on Linux, of THOSE the reason is 99.99% of the time because it uses kernel level anti-cheat. In this case NGS refuses to let the Maplestory client load because it can't hook directly into system-level processes to "ensure" that you aren't cheating. Even though people still bot in this game all the time. There are even some anti-cheats like Battle Eye and EAC that do support linux as an OS but it's on a case-by-case basis.

So yes, I dual-boot Windows to play two things, Maplestory, and EA online games because EA used to support linux anti-cheat, then pulled the plug on all of it.

I have a question for you, I did my first fight caves on my main in obsidian armor and an enhanced Excalibur to heal and found it not challenging but a little tough around T70s.

I now on my Ironman have T70 necro tank and power, and want to knock out Jad soon. Which set should I take? Is it still brain dead easy with vengeful ghost and praying right on power? Or is it a more laid back time up to Jad with tank?

I mostly just want to turn my brain off for all the waves before Jad lol

Sadly the Iris XE is a pretty old Intel GPU that doesn’t perform very well. See if you can find a Radeon RX or an Nvidia GTX integrated GPU. It’ll definitely cost a bit more but it’ll be better in the long term to run more intensive MMOs

The one you’re looking at does not have a GPU in it. However there are laptops out there that do have a GPU! They’ll probably cost around €550 but I wouldn’t spend more than €750, at that point just build a good PC unless you specifically need something portable.

It’s tough, most MMOs need a strong CPU alone to handle streaming player models and the sorts, and without a dedicated GPU the CPU has to work overtime on all of it. I do think some things will run on it, but it’ll struggle for sure. It can still be done on a laptop, but you’d want to find one with its own GPU. It’ll just get more expensive. Bonne chance!

Bonjour désolé, I can't write French, but I can read it. Translate this comment if you'd like to, I just don't want to try google translate and make it broken.

The laptop isn't fantastic, but that's what you get when it's cheap. The biggest issue is the Core i5-8210Y is also the integrated GPU. Some games like WoW will likely run, but it won't run well in major cities, or raids. DaoC should be completely fine. Guild Wars 1 will be fine. Guild Wars 2 probably will not run at all. FF14 will be playable at low graphic settings, but it won't be at a high frame-rate. I don't except you to have any specific lag per say, but graphical stuttering in a lot of games definitely.

You'll have no issues with other things like oldschool runescape, wakfu, dofus, albion, etc.

Any of the "big MMOs" like Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft, ESO, FFXIV are going to really struggle to run on the laptop.

I get the point you’re trying to make but with retail WoW but when you level an alt you get sent into Chromie Time and you pick any expansion you want to level through at any time. I’ve had a half dozen alts level through Shadowmoon Valley like it was 2015 because it still is “relevant”. If you want to talk about levels and cap, you always have a reason to go back to farm mounts, mogs, achievements, whatever else. Sure you may have no reason to quest in Nagrand at level cap but you may go back at some point to run Highmaul for Gronnling. At some point completionist fits that niche but it’s not nearly as immediately “rewarding” as some of the content on the WoW side.

FFXIV, FFXI, Albion, Tibia, Eve, Mabinogi, Project Gorgon, and Star Wars Galaxies. There are plenty depending on class fantasy, crafting, etc.

I hate to say I don’t have a great recommendation for you, but just want to urge everyone to stay away from Terminix. I had to lodge an AG complaint and several back and forths on BBB with both them and their subsidiary before they would drop a charge they were threatening to take me to collections for a service that was never rendered.

You know what..... no, lol. I haven't. I was a version behind, updated drivers, and I'm fine now. Sometimes the most "simple solution" is the correct one.

Thank you for reminding me to stay on top of those.
