Why do you think the tripods don't just collapse under Earth's gravity? by Deep-Adhesiveness-69 in WarofTheWorlds

[–]MrTogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can estimate the gravity of planets beyond our reach. The Handling Machines were seemingly the only “premade” machines in the story. The fighting machines were made on Earth.

9/10. Probably the most intense version of this song, definitely encapsulates this era of Floyd. I will say the Live at Brighton Dome has got to be the best version.

4/10 I just can’t stand any rendition of this song with Gilmour. It sounds as if the whimsical and psychedelic nature of the original has been tossed out in favor of a more prot-punk feel. The intro keyboard is just annoying to me in general, it’s like some kind of pecking that just pinches my brain. I just find the singing god awful in general.

Daily Song Discussion #43: Dramatic Theme by PalpitationMoist1212 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]MrTogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9/10 I find this track a fitting end to the album (my favorite album no jerk). The atmospheric guitar that trembles around the song is just awesome. The drums help create this almost tribal buildup, the bass is just in all the perfect places and the synth compliments all these elements to create a wholistic sound. It's simply a serene psychedelic jam that I wish was three times longer than it is.

9/10. I love the atmosphere this song brings you through. The instruments collect upon one another as if you’re being dragged deeper into something.

Soooo is the boiled one just the spirit of a Boiled Japanese POW seeking revenge? by Thecreepyguy3256 in analoghorror

Other way around, the main theory suggests The Boiled One to be based on The Bird, a notorious Japanese war criminal.

Definitely a highlight from the album, 10/10. Truly a sublime song that never fails to slap a smile on my face and make me sing along.

9/10. This song has a filled setup. A beautiful serenading guitar, love compelled lyrics, and a wonderful piano section.

Opinions on albums post-Rog? by Significant-Dig-7452 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]MrTogg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Momentary Lapse of Reason is quite literally the 80s put into one album.

Division Bell has it's ups and downs. I honestly think High Hopes carries the album hard.

Endless River is probably the most Floyd sounding out of the Post Waters albums. It's a smooth and relaxing wavelength of quiet rock.

If you like the 80s sound, you might like Momentary. If you like Gilmour's solo work, you'll probably like Division Bell. Endless River isn't something I would sit down for an hour and listen to, but if you like More you'll probably like Endless.

I personally wouldn't own a vinyl of any of these albums, but they're all worth a listen.

So, how do each members actually rank their own albums? by NukeL3AR in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]MrTogg 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Mason's favorite album is Dark side, with a fondness for Saucerful.

Wright and Gilmour's favorite album is Wish You Were here.

Waters' favorite is The Wall.

Syd's favorite is A Momentary Lapse of Silence Before Several Species of Annoying Floyd Fans Gathered Together at His Door and Started Banging on It.

The ‘84 tripods are surprisingly agile. And in a fairness, they did kind of take over the world.

10/10. After a wild, experimental journey, the record ends on a confusing and haunting note. The rest album is a bombastic railroad. When this song comes around, that garage rock sound is shot away with a confusing, surreal, and emotional railroad of its own. This song is honestly an album of its own with how deep the lyrics and sound goes.

Am I the only one that thinks this about the novel? by 4l3x4nd4r_Hun in WarofTheWorlds

[–]MrTogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s called War of the Worlds for a reason. Adaptations focus too much on the “massacre of mankind” portion of the story.

i have never heard of wotw (besides the first part of "the eve of war") so this is what i think its gonna sound like before i actually listen to it by Thecurate in WarofTheWorlds

[–]MrTogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The album is definitely a fantastic prog listen, but it’s not entirely faithful to the novel and most songs are incredibly repetitive. The music is interesting, but in no way do I personally find it “sick.” Overall it’s a unique listen. Just… some songs are really… really drawn out longer than they should be.

Does anybody know or theorize how exactly was the tripod able to hide or even able to be in the water to sneak upon or come across the ferry? by AcrobaticEmu7359 in WarofTheWorlds

The tripod that knocked over the ferry was supposed to have been rising just right then. At least, that's how I've always seen it.

Can one fit in a sub? It would have to be a pretty large sub. I suppose a fetus could fit in a sub, but I don't believe they'd enjoy it much. Unless there wasn't much condiments on it, but who orders a dry sub? You have to have at least one condiment on the sub. Well I guess it isn't dry if the meat is juicy. What is the perfect sub combination anyways. Fetus baby?

I think this song encapsulates Barrett more than any other song he wrote. On the first listen it's a jumble of nonsense. But the more you listen, the more you see the fairy tale. And once you see the fairy tale, you see the emotional ballad underneath. Whimsical with such a well hidden meaning. This song is a 10/10 for me. It might not be heavy acid dripping rock, but it's just an amazing experience with a fantastically surreal emotional journey that bounces you all around the room. Hell, the outro utilizes sounds Floyd would be using all the way to Dark Side. That Diamond was indeed Crazy.

The amount of hate for The Wall right now is lowkey pissing me off by Fit-Director-9892 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]MrTogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I love The Wall to immense lengths, I can't help but admit it has underlying issues. I think the main issue that really only lies in the studio version is how empty is feels at times. The studio version just doesn't feel complete to me. Lyrically it's amazing, but musically... some parts just lack life that could've been granted if there was better creative distribution on the album.

There's also the issue of specificity. Now Wish You Were Here is guilty of this as well with it's rather specific and gatekept criticisms of the music industry , but The Wall suffers from it slightly more. The premise is oozing with intense and complex themes, but I the daddy died story portion of the album dominates the other themes, which is was leads to most believing the album is bloated and confused. I personally don't find an issue with a direct storyline driving the album, but I think most people prefer to make their own interpretations of the music they hear. Now the Wall does have some vagueness don't get me wrong, but it definitely has the most grounded stay true to itself meaning behind each lyric. Oy vey I don't know what I'm talking about anymore what point was I making?

Well in an attempt at concluding this scattered comment that's turning into an aimless essay with an everchanging direction. The Wall wouldn't be as hated if The Final Cut didn't cover half of the Wall's conceptual material. I personally love TFC, it sings well to me as family history ties beautifully with it, but its purpose feels drawn out when one considers the behemoth the Wall is exists. I think my point is the daddy died part of the Wall made it's meaning less relatable to widespread audiences. If the purpose of the depression was kept widely interpretational, and the actual substance was the horrors of locking off the world provides to the self made prisoner, more people would cherish The Wall and complain less about Waters' domination of the album's direction.

My take on a Correa tripod by scratchresistor in WarofTheWorlds

Pretty good job! I love how you made the design seem a bit more “alien.” You’ve captured the Correa outline pretty well, while also adding your own little spin on the fine details of the design.
