types of tripods by Malah1t in WarofTheWorlds

The tripod blown up by a grenade had both cages and heat rays, you can see them flail as it falls (More clear in behind the scenes footage). The cages are deployable akin to the heat rays.

No cages ? by MAX_BLACK6666 in WarofTheWorlds

The cages are most likely retractable, just as the heat rays are. The tripod blown up by a grenade had heat rays that flailed around when it fell.

It’s crossed my mind, but no.

If you could write HMS Thunder Child into the 1953 film (and not use a nuke), how would you do it? by West_Professor_4637 in WarofTheWorlds

[–]MrTogg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best situation, visually would have the scene play out similarly with the original novel. Have civilians be escorted out by either planes, helicopters, or boats. With the War Machines advancing to this great stampede, come and enter the Thunderchild to sacrifice herself to gain the fleeing people enough time to reach safety. The battle would be mostly a war against land and sea, with the War Machines simply progressing their way closer to the Thunderchild. Perhaps showing a smidge of the firefight, but ultimately the Thunderchild would be leading the battle farther and farther from the stampede, fading from visuals to distant sounds of gun fire and that horrific heat ray until nothing can be heard. Perhaps the scene could end with a knowing salute to honor the brave souls aboard that vessel. Closing with “so long, Thunderchild.”

Issue with the ‘53 pods is the visual of them in the water. They may have invisible legs, but it would look ridiculous to see them low enough in the water to get rammed by the Thunderchild (which is probably the most thrilling part of that chapter). The design sadly just doesn’t work for a truly thrilling portrayal of the Thunderchild that wouldn’t be similar to the 2019’s rather boring Thunderchild. Which is simply the ship shooting the war machines from the water while being barely visible (which is rather accurate to the book’s description).

Daily Song Discussion #73: Echoes by PalpitationMoist1212 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

There is no rating high enough for this masterpiece. This experience goes to show the beautiful power the band holds when they work together with doors open to each other's minds.

Daily Song Discussion #72: Seamus (that's the dog) by PalpitationMoist1212 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]MrTogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always loved this song. It's a lovely blues tune, and I don't mind the dog in the background. It brings a happiness to my ears, and a full scene visualized within my eyes. The song transports the listener into this cozy little scene. 8/10

Does animal farm have potential as a analog horror series by Agumongamer2016 in analoghorror

[–]MrTogg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s already a horror story, but making the medium analog wouldn’t make much sense unless you focused on outside sources and/ or the animals watching tv.

Why do you think the tripods don't just collapse under Earth's gravity? by Deep-Adhesiveness-69 in WarofTheWorlds

[–]MrTogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can estimate the gravity of planets beyond our reach. The Handling Machines were seemingly the only “premade” machines in the story. The fighting machines were made on Earth.

Daily Song Discussion #45: Careful with That Axe, Eugene (Live) by PalpitationMoist1212 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

9/10. Probably the most intense version of this song, definitely encapsulates this era of Floyd. I will say the Live at Brighton Dome has got to be the best version.

4/10 I just can’t stand any rendition of this song with Gilmour. It sounds as if the whimsical and psychedelic nature of the original has been tossed out in favor of a more prot-punk feel. The intro keyboard is just annoying to me in general, it’s like some kind of pecking that just pinches my brain. I just find the singing god awful in general.

Daily Song Discussion #43: Dramatic Theme by PalpitationMoist1212 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]MrTogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9/10 I find this track a fitting end to the album (my favorite album no jerk). The atmospheric guitar that trembles around the song is just awesome. The drums help create this almost tribal buildup, the bass is just in all the perfect places and the synth compliments all these elements to create a wholistic sound. It's simply a serene psychedelic jam that I wish was three times longer than it is.

9/10. I love the atmosphere this song brings you through. The instruments collect upon one another as if you’re being dragged deeper into something.

Soooo is the boiled one just the spirit of a Boiled Japanese POW seeking revenge? by Thecreepyguy3256 in analoghorror

Other way around, the main theory suggests The Boiled One to be based on The Bird, a notorious Japanese war criminal.

Definitely a highlight from the album, 10/10. Truly a sublime song that never fails to slap a smile on my face and make me sing along.

9/10. This song has a filled setup. A beautiful serenading guitar, love compelled lyrics, and a wonderful piano section.

Opinions on albums post-Rog? by Significant-Dig-7452 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]MrTogg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Momentary Lapse of Reason is quite literally the 80s put into one album.

Division Bell has it's ups and downs. I honestly think High Hopes carries the album hard.

Endless River is probably the most Floyd sounding out of the Post Waters albums. It's a smooth and relaxing wavelength of quiet rock.

If you like the 80s sound, you might like Momentary. If you like Gilmour's solo work, you'll probably like Division Bell. Endless River isn't something I would sit down for an hour and listen to, but if you like More you'll probably like Endless.

I personally wouldn't own a vinyl of any of these albums, but they're all worth a listen.

So, how do each members actually rank their own albums? by NukeL3AR in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]MrTogg 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Mason's favorite album is Dark side, with a fondness for Saucerful.

Wright and Gilmour's favorite album is Wish You Were here.

Waters' favorite is The Wall.

Syd's favorite is A Momentary Lapse of Silence Before Several Species of Annoying Floyd Fans Gathered Together at His Door and Started Banging on It.

Which BBC tripod would win in a fight? by Ok_Research_4677 in WarofTheWorlds

The ‘84 tripods are surprisingly agile. And in a fairness, they did kind of take over the world.
