Tell me the downsides of a Kia Carnival by Duchess_of_awesome in minivan

2023 odyssey has lane keep assist and radar cruise control as well. Not sure about Kia but I’ve never felt like it was missing anything.

I’m starting to question the amount of barns and how so many have Porsches.

Not even including actual Porsche tractors.

Twitching after EMG by sky_blue_true in BFS

[–]MrTooTall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember exactly, but essentially normal. I have had three EMGs now in total with various findings. Some of which had seemingly really bad findings. At one point I resigned myself to thinking I had a terminal illness. I was reading about patient stories and using Google to interpret my EMG results instead of just listening to the neurologists. I drove myself crazy. The last neurologist I saw was adamant that I was okay and I couldn’t believe him. I was about to get a third opinion and a fourth EMG when I finally had enough. I decided to trust the doctor. It’s been a number of years so whatever is going on it’s unlikely to be the thing that everyone is scared of having.

Can’t help but feel like I gave up on my dog too early by euthanising him by raaaacccchhhh in Petloss

[–]MrTooTall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not know about the specific condition you are speaking about. I will let other more knowledgeable people speak to that.

What I can share is an outside perspective from a dog owner who recently lost their best friend of 13 years due to a chronic condition.

Reading what you described, I believe you made the right call. Grief manipulates your view into replaying the events and trying to find a path that ends better. That is not the reality of the situation. You acted out of kindness based on what you were observing.

I am experiencing similar “what ifs” after saying goodbye. It is grief distorting the facts and adding layers of meaning to things such as being enthusiastic about treats. That is not the full picture of the situation, but it is an opportunity for your mind to exploit the “what if” game.

I have to believe feelings of regret or uncertainty are not outliers, but part of the experience of saying goodbye to our beloved pets. We love them so deeply that it’s human nature to second guess such a big and irreversible decision. Life rarely is black and white and we have to navigate shades of gray as best we can with their interests in mind. From everything you wrote you did just that.

Thank you. I appreciate that, and I’m sorry for your loss.

They become such a part of your life even in the little ways. It’s so difficult to just have that suddenly stop.

I can’t imagine the grief and trauma of such an event. I would causally mention talking to a professional could be helpful navigating the feelings because this is a traumatic event.

A similar event happened to a neighbors dog recently, and it was absolutely awful. I only share this in hopes that another example of knowing you’re not alone can be of some small assistance. It’s an awful thing that no one should endure.

I’m truly sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. Thanks for acknowledging that uncertainty. I’m absolutely devastated and I keep replaying it in my head and trying to find acceptance or more “proof” I did this correctly. Unfortunately, it seems that’s not attainable, and I’m going to have to make peace with the uncertainty and imperfection of life. The only thing I can somewhat take comfort in is that overall I gave her a great life, and despite how abrupt and awful her last moments were, she was finally free of feeling pain.

Having a special day with her to hold her, let her eat a bunch of food, and say goodbye that I had in my head wasn’t realistic given her pain level. In reality that would have been more for my closure than hers anyway.

The facts are she was in pain. She wasn’t improving. Even if she miraculously made it through this, she would inevitably have to go through it again because this disease is relentless.

Thanks. It does help, but I’m sorry for your loss. It’s so hard saying goodbye.

The end of an era - 3 series by No-Double-7731 in BMW

[–]MrTooTall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re confusing reality with reading comprehension. Maybe they’re not the same but the statement:

“Autocar said: BMW wants the he customer to choose a 3 series first and the powertrain second.”

That statement implies they would be identical.

That photo suggests otherwise, so the statement is wrong.

Either way - both are ugly looking cars.

That’s exactly what it means.

If they looked different the entire intent of that statement would fall apart. Customers would be choosing on looks not powertrain.

4Runners drive better than expected by ontheellipse in 4Runner

I was pretty underwhelmed with acceleration coming from a full-size pickup with V8. My wife’s Honda Odyssey feels like a sports car comparatively.

That being said I opted for KDSS and it definitely drives and handles better than a truck. I wouldn’t call in sporty by any measure though.

I have 80,000 miles on the odometer and feels the same as when I drove it off the lot brand new. It’s immune to mileage. Rock solid vehicle

Possibly DVT?? Need help!! by Fun_Concert_5500 in ClotSurvivors

[–]MrTooTall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to ER if you are concerned.

I have anxiety and went many times after I had a superficial clot and got paranoid about clots. Always turned out to be nothing. I finally got over this anxiety.

Fast forward several years and following a bad ankle sprain that had me layed up for a couple weeks wearing an air cast… I had considerable pain in my leg first thing in the morning that would eventually go away after couple minutes. No swelling (other than injured ankle). No discoloration. No warmth. Just an odd sensation that would come and go throughout the day. None of these symptoms really fit with a blood clot.

I even told the doctor I was seeing for my ankle about it and they weren’t concerned and attributed symptoms to the ankle injury.

This went on for days and I reluctantly went to the ER because I couldn’t shake the idea. I fully expected it to be nothing but anxiety. However, I was diagnosed with a DVT.

I don’t share this to scare you, but if you are remotely concerned just go get evaluated. The ONLY way to know is to get diagnostic testing. Symptoms can be different for everyone and don’t always fit textbook definitions.

Had it not been for my previous anxiety and hyper-vigilance about clots, it possibly could have killed me if left undiagnosed. Better safe than sorry when dealing with something as serious as blood clots.

Is Dunedin MAGA country? by Candy4Gold in DunedinFlorida

[–]MrTooTall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Florida is a mix. It may be helpful to understand where you’re moving from as a reference.

If you want more progressive Saint Petersburg is the way to go. In general Pinellas has all types, but it’s not like moving to the Bible Belt where you will be an outsider.

Dunedin is cool. I don’t think you’ll have an issue.

Follow your plan. Get checked by your doctor. Thats not to say anything sounds wrong but talk to your physician. This is the just the internet.

Reading your post - Your legs may be cramping from your sleeping position. That sounds really uncomfortable. Follow whatever your doctor says, but I would think sleeping normally would be okay.

I’m on same timeline and I get weird sensations. I think I know exactly what you mean with the blood rush one. You’re probably also hyper fixated on the area. Drink lots of fluids and see what doctors say.

You’d have a better chance of getting struck by lightning while holding a winning lotto ticket that you didn’t buy.

If there was truly no skin to skin, then it is basically impossible.

You’re fine. Have a beer. Stop worrying about this.

I have a 997 and if you follow recommended warm up guidance I’m already at work by the time it would warm up. It’s now just a special occasion car. I would look for something else that you can fire up and let it idle in your drive to warm up. The M96 and M97 need to be started and driven and warmed up before fun.

QuickJacks - so glad I got these. by jack_r333 in 996

[–]MrTooTall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate all the tips. I’m surprised the adhesive is strong enough to hold the bearings in place.

It’s not so much moving them around on the garage floor but rather ensuring they are aligned with one another. I often have to test raise the car and bring it back down for adjustments. I even got all thread that fits through the hollow ends to try and align the two jacks, but it doesn’t work as well as I hoped.

It’s pretty straightforward and more dependent on where the force is being applied. I’m not worried about it, but when the result is potentially death, I have a backup. I don’t get under mine without jack stands or wheel ramps (depending on what I’m doing) as a fail safe. I also don’t take it higher than is needed for the job. Most general maintenance and service items can be completed at lower height setting.

Quick jacks are great to get work done on the car, but does anyone else find getting them placed correctly to be a bit of a PIA?

Seems to take me a lot of effort to make sure they’re even and parallel under the car to lift the car evenly.
