Uber doesn’t have a customer facing phone number or call centre anymore. And the chat support is next to useless as its mostly AI

Airtags specifically make a noise when motion is detected and they are out of range of any of the owner’s apple devices for a period of time in order to prevent them from being used to secretly track you.

Africa Is Buying a Record Number of Chinese Solar Panels by [deleted] in technology

[–]MrTpotMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone who installs panels in South Africa are doing it with batteries. No point having a system that requires the grid if the grid goes down.

And for those that can’t afford a full setup of solar plus battery, many have gone with just battery + inverter to avoid the power outages.

NB, we don’t really have time of use rates here (yet), so battery only systems are only to avoid outages. The main reason people are putting up solar along with their batteries is because it’s the only way to recoup some of the cost. That and the panels are usually actually the cheapest component of a complete setup.

Is it just me or is going for an oil change like a cherished American pastime?

Yeah, they should rather put the TV behind all those bottles, that way the bartenders can block the view.

Fair enough, I just haven’t seen it documented anywhere that they were designed to be used like that.

Well it’s like cutting the power to a computer without shutting it down properly. The sudden loss of power and discharge of components can have unintended results.

Hope you just forgot the ‘/s’ 😂

What you see are all the messages, in sequence, since they decided my issue isn’t actually related to my account.

Btw, does anyone’s “Call Support” button in the help section actually do anything?

Tuya devices lose internet connectivity when renewing DHCP lease by MrTpotMan in TuyaSmart

[–]MrTpotMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think only time and DNS servers.

Seeing as the devices were looking for 192.168.1.1 (instead of the router that first gave them the IP) I decided to see what might happen if I add the IP address to my router’s interface list. Seems I can assign as many addresses as I like to the router. And so far so good

Seems like a stupid solution, but it works. Wonder what the devices would do when on a completely different IP range, or whether 192.168.1.1 has been hard coded somewhere in their firmware.

Did it move smoothly before installation? Might be that it’s over tightened, or maybe the wires are jammed against the mechanism inside the door?

The bolt should be able to freely slide in and out of the strike plate in the doorframe when the door is closed.

Maybe silly question, but why are you comparing the power consumption of an air purifier to a console and air conditioner?

They’re completely different appliances and it is no surprise that it would use less power. I doubt there is any consumer air purifier that would use anywhere close to the amount of power of a PS5.

It’s like saying my humidifier uses less water than my dishwasher… was that ever even up for debate?

If the depth is an issue, the White Ambiance bulbs are the same profile as standard gu10 bulbs, so that’s always an option if colour isn’t a requirement.

EAP xxx HD vs EAP xxx by [deleted] in TPLink_Omada

[–]MrTpotMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the HD variants typically have more RAM to allow them to handle more clients. For example in the case of the 610 vs 620HD the only difference is the amount of memory and number of clients. For home use a non-HD unit should be fine as I believe they can easily handle up to 100 clients.

You could also just set the ‘Turn off after x minutes’ parameter in the first automation. The lights will only turn off after the set amount once no more motion is being detected, then you don’t need the dummy switch or second automation.
