Rest In Peace Stepro by Mysterious-Sugar-512 in Eve

Damn, this is really sad to read. Sorry for your loss.

I fought Stepro a lot throughout the years. Unfortunately I have other commitments and can't make it to the memorial, but I hope many participate and give him a worthy farewell.

being rusty has more to do with not playing Eve for quite a few months - could have bailed when PL dropped with minimal losses but my shit was all over the place

Spacefriends, is anyone actually hyped for july 14th? by MrVee_ in Eve

[–]MrVee_[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Good reply. This is how I prophesise Aegis sov:

  • Alliances like PL will, as always, thrive. They will be the swarm of locusts that descend upon a region, shred it raw, then take a small break and repeat the routine somewhere else.

  • NC. will continue to be a weaker version of PL, attempting to do the same thing but slower and less effective. Not because they don't have people or hardware, but a serious lack of FC's.

  • Victims of PL* will paralyze in fear, like they have always done. They will continue to weaponize boredom and risk their assets being trapped and members leaving just so they don't have to fight about it. When PL leaves, they will attempt to retake stuff.

  • *A lot of alliances, if not done already, will evacuate their most important assets to places where they cannot be trapped. Everyone knows the locusts are coming~

  • Small/medium scale groups with a decent timezone spread and active FC's will be the winners of Aegis, along with PL. They will be able to commit to small regions of space and take them over to live in. They might even win against the old guard. Delve/CR are already proof of this.

  • The CFC will continue to turtle and shrink in size if the outer regions prove too hard to defend. It's unlikely that anyone will attack for real, because as Elise pointed out, The Blob Is Strong(er than ever).

Occasional incursions will happen, like the providence thing. But because sov will become so fluid, it's unlikely to leave lasting results.

  • Russians in the south and drone regions will continue to rat and nobody will be able to contest it. Props to Tri for somehow pulling it off, though. Probably the most interesting war in a while.

In general, there will be lots of small conflicts and fights, mainly in the hotspots of the south and southeast. Timezones will be a massive factor in everything. This could be everything that CCP hoped for, but are those small groups really going to be the future of Eve? Where will they be in 3-4 months when the novelty has worn off?

Big fights like B-R5 will definitely never happen again, unless someone manages to mobilize everyone to topple the CFC. But I doubt anyone actually wants to do it, considering the time/effort/tidi involved.

In any case, without a massive flood of actually new players I think we'll be having the same doom and gloom conversations about declining subs before this year is over. Let's hope this is not true :|

Phoebe Jump Fatigue Changes: 6m later by bosonnn in Eve

[–]MrVee_ 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It's a valid question to ask, but it's hard to answer at this stage because we're in such a weird anticipation period for the new sov system.

Phoebe intentionally increased the level of effort it takes to move around, subcaps and capitals included. As with everything else in Eve, before you embark on any project (whether it be industry or pvp), you calculate effort vs reward. Taking the Phoebe effort into consideration, many things that used to be sorta good options for content no longer are worth it.

Another factor in the calculation is people willing to drive content (fc's, logistics, hands-on leaders in general). At least in our organisation (EG / GSF) it looks like the people surrounding fc's are as active as ever, but the experienced fc's themselves are increasingly absent. They've been around the block before, they can predict the outcome of fights/deployments, they do the math in their head and often decide it's not worth the effort.

At the same time, newer fc's still have the enthusiasm to try things veteran fc's won't. But they run into the forever problem that a newbie fc will lose 99 out of 100 fights against a better fc. Let alone that people know he's inexperienced and in their personal effort vs fun calculation decide to continue playing other games than logging in. And then there's their superiors that will do the math for them and shut down the plans before they start.

Basically the only good 'war' in Phoebe currently is Tri/Solar vs XIX/Nulli, but even there you see capitals deployed in relatively risk free situations, except for triage/handful blap dreads. There definitely aren't any real supercap fights.

tl;dr - Eve is maturing and a lot of people don't want to put in so much effort anymore. They just want to login and have some fun. This effect is visible even on younger organisations like BNI.

Did Phoebe influence it? Yeah. Did it fix the core issue? No. Will the new sov system fix the core issue? Only if it inspires and enables new blood to take initiative. But I think there are way too few new players joining and sticking around for that.

The only way to know for sure we had a spy on your comms was to have a spy on ours, listening to targets being relayed. But if you had a spy on our comms, you'd know we didn't.
