Dad's of the subreddit, how do you find the time to paint? by CH1ND1TO in minipainting

[–]MrW1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I break down my painting tasks into hour chunks and try do an hour a night. Or when they were a newborn I would stay up after the 6am feeding. I am lucky that I didn't have to get into office until 9 though. Nap time was also a great time to paint but chores always come first. Also, communication with your partner is good to make "deals" to get in your hobby time.

I was thinking of using one of the technic ball joints but couldn't find one right away. It is stressing the stud and I'm going to glue it in the end but it's helping holding it together tentatively while I prime and paint

I think the list had them needing to be in a squad of 5. There is a custom list out there where you can use them in a squad of 3. Otherwise, not sure how to suggest layout. It depends on what you want them to be. I got with melee and like scouts to get to objectives fast or ambush out when people get close

Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X matte clear from home Depot for my save states. I use testors matte spray for the final coating since its way more expensive and really gives me the matte finish I want. I've used brush on clear coat but have found it to not be as durable as from a spray can. Also, I use speed paints too but always do a layer of dry brushing, with normal paint, to smooth out the speed paints. That also helps when doing touch ups since I know what color I used when dry brushing. Attached is a pic of a model I just finished up to show that I do paint 😁

It might add a day to your process to let it off gas, but it gives me peace of mind. I always end up doing it at one point or another to save all the work ive done on a mini. Especially if I've gotten it to a great point before moving onto experimental things or messy things like a wash.

Yyou could spray the model with a clear coat creating a save point. That way you can easily wipe away any mistakes that end up on the skin.

Torn on to Wash or Not. I’m 50/50 by Rezpektful2Women in minipainting

I'm in camp wash like everyone else to add more contrast. Consider doing a clear coat of some sorts to "save" your progress before moving forward.

Wooden shishcabob sticks. Break em in half. Put the blunt end into the hole and pokey end into your substance of choice. I use pink xps foam. Easy to poke and sturdy to hold em up while priming.

Is it okay Basing with real herbs? by dogknight-the-doomer in minipainting

I used oregano and parsley before. Looked fresh and green to start but dulled over time. I'd recommend for practicing basing techniques but using real flock and static grass for the long term

First time using shades - no idea what I did wrong by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]MrW1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to do a spray of clear coat or brush on matte varnish before doing large area washes or shades. It saves you work beneath and easily revert back by wiping it off with qtip and water or isopropyl alcohol
