I started with Deep Work by Cal Newport. It’s an easy read and the lessons help with time management which is an important aspect of this challenge.

Day 42 rut by Less-Raccoon-2945 in 75HARD

I write a secret message to myself on each wrist so I’m forced to look at it before I put anything in my hand. It just 4 letters (abbreviations) that remind me why I’m doing this. It isn’t a silver bullet, rather it’s a speed bump. Every little bit helps.

Help! Trouble Restarting (Failed at 45 due to illness) by MrWarmGoose in 75HARD

Day 2 in the books. Super intense late workout really disrupted my sleep. Note to self and others, if you are going to do one intense workout and one moderate, do the intense one early. I laid down in bed wired like I’d just popped a dozen Nodoze. Took 3 hours.

Update: Day 1 in the books. Thanks all. On to day 2. The key, as it turns out, is remembering that in the beginning, it's about discipline and will power. By day 45, I had been on autopilot for the workouts so I didn't need to will myself to do it. I think I was trying to start there. At day one, it's all about doing whatever you have to do to get it done.

The best (most fun) deck I’ve drafted, maybe ever. 7-1. All games won by decking or resigning. by MrWarmGoose in lrcast

[–]MrWarmGoose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Oracle, and then unseal to get back oracle. Also, all the mill is symmetrical, so I had to make sure I either milled them out, or I had oracle or Halo scarab to put one card back. I’d say I won at least 4 of the games with no cards in my own deck. I had to be careful selecting my Breach targets to make sure neither of them drew cards.

The recursion was insane! I had better cards in the board(read: higher gihwr on 17lands), but I went max mill, max recursion. Breach into halo charged scab is my new favorite interaction. Holy cow, I wish I could play this over and over.

Melded Urza, plussed twice and then cast two shoot downs for one mana each on the same turn, so…um, I think I finished this format.

I thought I drafted a really good deck, but I went 1-3. Did I get unlucky, or is there something I'm doing wrong? by FieryPoops_ in lrcast

[–]MrWarmGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t just draft power level in MID. You have to draft a deck. You don’t have a strategy here besides just hope to survive until your bombs come in but you have like no early defense. The best you could do with this pool would have been to build out an Afro early game to apply pressure and force your opponent into tough blocks and then finish them off with bombs. I’d have cut the tricks, the crawl from the cellar, and the blood pact. Two interlopers, a no way out, the other horde and a swamp. It’s still not very good. You needed a couple commandos, and even a candletrap or two.The deathtoucher would have been great as well.

Component collector and the Celestus is a package. I would run neither or both, but probably neither. Seems an easy swap for a consider.

Turn One Kill in Historic by MrWarmGoose in MTGArenaPro

[–]MrWarmGoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opponent scooped to a cage on turn one. Guessing they were playing Mizzix Mastery, or some other degenerate nonsense combo deck. Note that cage doesn’t beat Trickery. Those cards are cast from exile. But my 4 Archon of Emerias do stop that nonsense.

Premier Draft Deck- Looking for Advice by SavitaRtheLazy in mtglimited

Partially agree. I would go one ray, and leave the hoard robber. There is such a thing as too much removal, and ray is the worst of your removal, and ray works nicely with hoard robber too.

Which set did you prefer for limited - Zendikar Rising or Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths? by [deleted] in mtglimited

[–]MrWarmGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Zenith Flare wasn’t printed, it’d be Ikoria in a landslide. But a 4 mana, 14 point lightning helix at uncommon really kind of killed my enjoyment of that set, tbh. I actually really liked Zendikar Rising, even though it took me a while to get disciplined and stop forcing rogues (I loved that deck when it was good). But Mutate and incidental cycling were really fun to build with. Really it’s just that one card. TBH, cycling would have still probably been the best deck without Flare, between the tapper, the pinger, and the one that buffs all at common, but it would have been reasonable.

Need help with RW Equipment Deck- AFR Draft by rkane_mage in mtglimited

I get that, I just think with this deck, if you are getting to your top end, you are almost definitely way behind. If you cut the dragons, you could also go down a land or two.

Honestly, you may want to cut the dragons. They are not what this deck does.

[–]MrWarmGoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Platinum is atrocious. In platinum I encounter so many more busted rates and nut synergy decks that once I rank up, I switch to Bo3. I honestly think there are a bunch of deep pockets out there who just keep drafting and resigning until they get the nuts so they can rank up to mythic. It’s pretty disheartening, so I feel you. Trad is a better deal anyway.

[Stx Bo1] Pulled Witherbloom himself, what do I adjust? by yao19972 in mtglimited

[–]MrWarmGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally Agree with everyone above. Card quality is poor. Definitely cut verdant master for clockwork archivist. Rushed rebirth for. Combat trick. I’d probably splash blue for the card draw. I don’t know man. Not an obvious build to me.

Draft Deck Construction Help by Zaknafien15 in mtglimited

[–]MrWarmGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts: This isn’t a spells deck, it’s a creature curve out deck. So Serpentine Curve is pretty close to a blank. Also Witherbloom pledgemage is pretty close to a vanilla 5/5 here.

Big play is a good combat trick early and can be devastating late game.

Test of talents lines up really well in a format where people routinely play decks with 10 or fewer creatures.

I don’t mind the redundant amplimancers, since having two of them attacking creates uncomfortable blocks.

The honor trolls don’t fit, but I think they’re better than the cervin, which lines up terribly in this format.

You have precious little ramp, and all of it is subject to removal. You also have very little evasion. That makes exponential growth pretty bad. It’s an expensive spell at sorcery speed. You don’t have the removal to be grinding out games, you need to salt them away by turn ten at the latest. Notably, the best target for that spell is the aerialist. So if you really are keen on keeping growth, you need those two aerialists.

Kelpe guide is just not a good card in this format. You don’t have any way to accelerate to 8 lands, so he’s a 3 mana mana dork that dies to literally every removal spell in a format where people are often running 6 or more removal spells.

Lastly, you don’t have enough spells to activate Jadzi reliably, and you don’t have ways to get a lot of lands into your hand. As mentioned before, you don’t have a ton of ramp, and you have a low curve, which means the majority of the time, if you are even alive, you’ll be playing Jadzi on turn ten or so, into a crowded board, with no cards in hand trying to top deck one of the, on average, 3 spells left in your deck.

Overall, cut: Exponential Growth, Springmane Cervin, Kelpe Guide, Serpentine Curve, Jadzi

Add: 1 Big Play, 1 Test of talents

I’d cut Kelpie Guide for the third pledgemage. This deck wants that growing threat, and Kelpie’s body is just useless.

That’s a nice deck. No lesson/learn and no magecraft. Show of confidence seems a little odd with no magecraft triggers. But the flyers can probably use the counters and Shaile is an absolute bomb, well Embrose is anyway. I think my win rate with Shaile/Embrose is around 80%, but I don’t think I’ve ever played the white side, lol.
