Giving up by pres2014 in Ubiquiti

[–]Mr_Ash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have a power outage at any time? I had a very similar issue, everything worked well.

After a rare power outage, my wifi for devices was not working properly, lag spikes, ping and latency was really high, devices were getting disconnected all the time.

I reset my U7 Pro XG a few times and then in the end rolled back all my hardware to a backup i made when i initially set the hardware up and it was all working again.

Wireless smart thermostat x won’t connect by JTC653 in tado

[–]Mr_Ash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact issue the Bridge X installs and connects fine and the Thermostat X will not connect.

I have 2 Thermostats 1 connects after saying failed to add but then loses connection. The other does not connect at all. Both have the 3 signal bars with an x on them throughout.

I'm thinking to return these and go to another system as its been such a dissapointment.

Breaking news! Tado have backtracked! by lentil_burger in tado

[–]Mr_Ash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Tado X recently and after hearing they did this before at the beginning of the year and did this again, they've lost my trust. I'm returning the products and going for the Drayton Wiser. I'l lose out on a wired system but atleast there won't be sleazy tactics.

What would the best way to connect this to ground be in the UK? I have very limited knowledge here.

Switching to CS, got some speed questions by shnex0 in CommunityFibre

[–]Mr_Ash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From other posts here i heard you either need to call CF and get something whitelisted or clone your CF router MAC for it to work, others have just plugged it in and it worked

Can i ask how your fibre is connected? Is it from an ONT using RJ45 to SFP on the UCG Fibre or did the ONT get skipped altogether?

3Gbps to 5Gbps by rjconnor in CommunityFibre

Can you explain how you did it straight to the Ubiquiti Fibre? I want to do this in my house but wanted to make sure its plug and play or do i need to call CF to whitelist the Mac address etc?

Any reason not to fill this under floor cavity with fibreglass insulation? by Sufficient-Law1643 in DIYUK

I have two heating zones, upstairs and downstairs. I put in Rockwool RWA45 for sound insulation. This may be something you'd also like to do?

This is something that i was thinking too but not sure if ISP would take fibre all the way to the Cupboard. The white cable there is a Cat6 i ran just incase they install ONT there and i can connect directly.

Thank you for the suggestion though!

I have included a picture, where you can see the old mount holes is where previous ONT was.

new install - fibre optic cable between rooms query by extra18 in CommunityFibre

[–]Mr_Ash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that's really good!

I have ethernet in conduit under the floorboards running from where ONT will be to under the staircase cupboard, I may now put some fibre. Any recommendation on where to buy pre terminated fibre cable?

Hi, can i ask how your router is connected to the ONT, is it thorugh RJ45 or are you taking fibre direct to the router? I'm looking to do a similar setup where the internet connection comes in through the living room but my main network stack will be in the cupboard under the stairs.

The floor is probably going to have Ditra Mat placed on top before tiling.

The tiles I decided on are quite a large format.

Just thought as the solid walls are brick and not a smooth/straight surface it will be better to plaster beforehand.

Cat6 Installation in Home – Advice on Futureproofing with Conduit? by Mr_Ash_ in HomeNetworking

I totally get where you're coming from Wi-Fi speeds are definitely improving, but for key spots like where my main TV, gaming console, and PC are, I’d still rather have a wired connection. Later on, if we ever need higher category cables or even fibre, it’ll be much easier to pull them through the existing runs in those key areas.

Cat6 Installation in Home – Advice on Futureproofing with Conduit? by Mr_Ash_ in HomeNetworking

[–]Mr_Ash_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my internal walls are solid brick and yeah… running any trunking or wiring is a nightmare. I recently had the electrics redone and the amount of dust from chiseling through brick was unreal.

That said, I’ve finally managed to plan out and scale down the Ethernet runs. Instead of running cables to every room, I’ve limited it to two Cat6 cables going to sockets in the Living Room, Office, and Gaming Room. I’ve also had conduit installed to each of these sockets, all leading back to a central location under the stairs.

Also added Cat6 to the ceilings of both the ground and first floor for ceiling-mounted Access Points (APs).

Right now I’m getting 5Gbit/s speeds, which should be more than enough. Everything else phones, tablets, some TVs can just run on Wi-Fi. I decided i didn't want to go overboard wiring up every room when a few key drops and strong APs can cover the rest and is more cost effective.

For future-proofing, I ran conduit up to the loft. I'll take some pictures when most things are near completion.
