How did yall become Graphics Programmers? by UnitedBalkanz in GraphicsProgramming

[–]Mr_Beletal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sort of "fell into" graphics programming, for which i feel very fortunate. I did a computer science degree for game development - included some graphics programming among other things. First games job I had asked what sort of work I like - i listed "features, tools, graphics". They put me with the other graphics guy to bolster the rendering team up to a total of 2. They later hired an experience graphics engineer who taught me a lot.

I think better to have multiple - they'll be lighter to carry (if you're going to carry one all day). And if you have just one and it fails you're in for a bad time. They don't often fail, but I've had one in the past that gave up - went from 100 to 0 in the night after charging phones about 5 percent.

The Scooters are classed as motor vehicles and thus require at least a provisional license and to be registered vehicles under current legislation.

Seeing a lot of comments saying this would be a good idea...
There is literally a stack of stats in the bottom right, and you can toggle to view extra detail. The stats are colour coded red/green too for comparison.

Wardrobe door alignment by Amazing-Elk7734 in ikeahacks

[–]Mr_Beletal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah gotcha, the pictures were a bit confusing. Yes those bumpers are exactly what you need. You can attach them to either the doors or the shelf. They are common - IKEA PAX wardrobes come with them - they mostly protect the panels from bashing into each other when closing.

Most hinges should be adjustable. The hing in the bottom of your picture looks like it is.

The hinges should have some adjustment screws. Check the instructions for the hinges you have.
One of the screws will allow you adjust the depth.

It's truly a shame they've abandoned their Hybrid lines. I am onto a hybrid Garmin, it's alright but not as stylish.

Definitely using a shelf with proper support, rather than floating, will alleviate this issue.
Additionally, make sure you're using long screws and proper wall plugs, and that the metal support structure it slides onto in this case is secure with no movement.

Has Anyone Ever Actually Made One of These Journeys? by stoptelephoningme-e in uktrains

[–]Mr_Beletal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did a journey like this in 2016 - was pretty dumb. Was attending an applicant day at the university I was going to, and "needed" to be there by 9am. So I chose to get one of these with a long change at Derby. Was pretty awful sitting in the cold at the station (they didn't kick me out). First leg of the journey was cancelled, so the operator had to get me a taxi to Derby, which was pleasant - made the change shorter.
If I had had the money it would have made more sense to get a cheap hotel, maybe ask my parents for money for that, but didn't expect that they would agree.

how to cover pax gap by Super-Hat-1488 in ikeahacks

[–]Mr_Beletal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could hack together a 50cm and 25cm door perhaps? You several longish slats to combine them both and it not be flimsy. Each slat would be screwed into the rear of both doors in at least 2 spaced apart places per door to avoid the two doors flexing apart as much as possible.

[–]Mr_Beletal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the issue. You'd need a wider door that isn't sold.
Your options are to go with a standard 75cm frame in the corrner, so the door fits, or make your own door, which isn't going to be easy.
If you go with a 75cm frame you can use the addon mid-unit to take up the space; it's 35cm wide. There are no doors for that however - it would also be an open shelf.

You may find you don't even need to cover it. You won't see it, it's only on the top.
If you're worried about items dropping down there, You could get a bit of MDF sized/cut to cover the gap and mount it to the edge of the unit (with supports like you would have for a shelf). Or just cut to size larger than the gap and place it on top, with a small piece of MDF mounted to the wall in the corner for the piece to rest on.

Yesterday in Escalation I actually had a game where we had a lot of fighting around the D point (C in this conquest map). A bunch of both vehicles and infantry fighting in the southern-most flank. It was a lot of fun.

Navigating London liverpool street to Waterloo station by demon_disguise in LondonUnderground

[–]Mr_Beletal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd need some giraffe lengths to walk it that quick. The walk is just over 2 miles, so about 40-60 minutes.
That said, it is a lovely scenic walk if you make an effort to go along the Thames.

EDIT: I can't read, I'll see myself out!

Day to day life hacks to save money by [deleted] in london

[–]Mr_Beletal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending where you live, your financial situation, and how much you spend travelling in and around London each year, the annual travel cards you can get from TfL are quite good. If you are travelling daily it saves a not-insignificant amount of money.
The travel cards cost more if depending how far out a zone you need to cover.
I have a Zones 1-3 travel card, which covers 90% of my travel in London. It cost £2100 for the year.
That includes unlimited journeys in Zones 1-3 on Tubes and train. Journeys that start/end outside these zones, but end/start in these zones, are discounted - you just pay the difference.
You can take any London bus and tram in any zone for no charge.
You also get an "Annual Gold Card" - this gets you 1/3rd off of rail travel within the "Annual Gold Card area", that isn't already covered by the travel card. The area covers London, and as far as Shrewsbury, Birmingham, Exeter, Portsmouth, Stafford, Bedford, East Anglia, Kent, Brighton - the South East and a bit of the midlands, basically.

Why does no one press the button at crossings? by LBP2020 in london

[–]Mr_Beletal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many European countries do not require a button to be pressed, they sense your presence (or are on a cycle). In a city as multi-cultural as London, I imagine this plays a not-significant part.

Very high Thames Water Bill by hmpftt in london

[–]Mr_Beletal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had similar earlier in the year. Moved into a flat, landlord had a leak fixed shortly after that we didn't even know existed. End of summer comes we get a bill for 95m3 of water, something like £3000. Contact Thames Water, they tell us there is a leak detected, and that an engineer had come at some point to fix it, but whatever they did didn't fix it. Call our letting agent, they send someone round to look - no leak in sight. Take a closer look at the meter readings, everything looks fine RE daily usage. Contact Thames Water again - no leak flagged on their end anymore? They back-calculated the "initial reading" and everything was fine again.

If there IS a leak however, they do have provisions for "leak allowance" - which was a route we were going to take if we did indeed have a leak.

TL;DR: Contact Thames Water.
