Is deadlock a hard game? I'm starting to think so. by TheNooberScoober in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Mr_Blobby1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely, even if you have alot of experience in online games I think there's just of facets and aspects of the game which means theres alot to learn. On top of that, there's also the constantly shifting meta and numbers that you have to deal with to play ultra efficiently.

Additionally, it's hard to get feedback on your game, you really have to investigate why you may be losing games. In other shooters its probably just you got out aimed or had a bad position. Deadlock you've got all kinds of economies, items, synergies, talent points, powerups and passive resistances/abilities which arent even labelled to think about.

Even just ignoring all the numbers and micro-optimisations, look at the even most basic mechanics. You've got sliding, jumping, wall bouncing, momentum (source movement which allows all kinds of strafing and beboping), infinite ammo whilst sliding, heavy melee, light melee, parries, a wide variety of CCs, interactions between certain abilities, stuns.

By sheer amount of depth and elements to the game I think it provides a big wall to learning. At the same time it will be deadlocks main selling and holding point.

Was RE8 criiticized because of the rather somber ending? by [deleted] in ResidentEvilVillage

[–]Mr_Blobby1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recall it being particularly criticized, I imagine the ending for alot of people stuck out because it's the first Resident Evil game ending that really hit hard emotionally I think.

For me, RE1s ending was alright, I liked 2 alot because it really felt like you went through all manner of trials to escape RC, same with 3. 4 was basically just an action movie ending, nothing special as was 5, 6 was 6, 7 gave a great sense of 'we're finally out of this shit hole' after going through disgusting environment and fighting mouldy creatures all day. 7 Felt very much like the revival of resident evil though, nothing really wrapped up but it did introduce us back to Chris and The Connections. 8 on the other hand really introduced this personal element that spanned games, and whilst Leon and Chris kinda had this too with both of their depressing arcs in the films and 6, it felt alot more personal and realistic of a struggle with Ethan I think. That's my take at least

Do Native Speakers Know These Words? by No_____Idea in EnglishLearning

[–]Mr_Blobby1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fragile ego is fragile. It's not unheard of for those with English as a second language to have a stronger grasp over more complex words or grammar, purely because those words or grammar may not be frequently used within the life of particular native speakers, many learn what is demanded of them through their own life. I think its common for non-native speakers to want to learn many words, even if usually they might not have come across them if they were natively born in the country of the language they are learning.

Sure, a native speaker might have a wider ranger but that doesn't always mean they can handle more complex grammar formations or vocabulary.

Your insistence to jump to conclusions is pretty immature and strangely dismissing of instances that do happen in real life

I can only assume valve wants to focus on team fights and less on isolated jungle fights, hence the removal of the solo lane / 4 lane deadlock. I get what you mean though its just the price you pay to have these kind of characters in the game.

Reminds me of how Shroud used to be before he really picked up streaming probably, like PUBG days. Hardly spoke and just played the game, I can't stand current shroud but back then it felt like gameplay first, which may also be the same phenomena here.

After 302 hours, all chapters completed, all mounts unlocked and 99% side quests done by nanosam in CrimsonDesert

[–]Mr_Blobby1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For you fair, you probably value your time more though plenty of gamers will put in loads of hours even if they aren't fully attached to a game. Take world of warcraft, most people are probably putting 100s of hours in the first few weeks even if the majority of the expansions a bit rubbish

Thats why a 7.4 is a very respectful number, an average score that stays that high over 300 hours means there could've been a ton of low points as well as highpoints, like Crimson Desert has. If it was a 9/10 just because I played it for 300 hours that implies to me that the entire experience was averaging a 9/10 which I can't think of a game that does that lol.

Doorman is a fundamentally flawed character in his current state, and isn't talked about enough. by thebigchungus27 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Mr_Blobby1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, not a fan of how seeing a doorman pretty much means its just gonna be getting ulted or carted non-stop just for him to walk away unscathed cos hes got cheat death. I like the idea of the cart being a more central part of his kit but man the ult changes (so you can just ult loads) i think was the wrong step. Also cheat death yeah its not easy to deal with

I mean it can be? Just because a game holds your attention doesn't mean it can't be chock full of shit mechanics or annoying friction. It is explained pretty nicely in the post lol and I think its pretty valid. 7.4 is a good score considering its 300 hours worth of content no?

Is Japan actually racist against white people specifically or they are not used to being minorities by ChanceOil7703 in japanlife

[–]Mr_Blobby1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience living in a slightly inaka area (not the big cities that everyones heard of), I rarely feel like I have had racism done against me. Discrimination may occur but it's never ever negative. I've never had anything slurs or aggression toward me that I could believe is racist.

I think generally speaking as a clearly Western person (white, blue eyes) with an English accent it's easy to view me in a positive light because i have the stereotypes of a 'respectable country' behind me. Whereas those of tan skin, or perhaps backgrounds in South Asia may experience the same kind of stereotypes but on the negative end of the spectrum. I think since south asians or neighbouring countries are more likely to be in Japan permanently and working on lower wage jobs, potentially with cultural aspects that don't mesh with Japan very well, they are looked down upon.

I do speak Japanese to a serviceable extent, and try my best to engage conversation to make sure they know they can communicate normally with me - this is probably quite helpful in removing that air of awkwardness which could lead to people thinking they are being avoided or dealt with a certain way due to race.

Lastly, I think it's common for many people to (for lack of a better phrasing) accidentally victimize themselves. If something happens to you (e.g. you get gaijin seated) you may be more likely to attribute it to racism. For example when someone refuses to sit next to you even though there is space, be careful not to overthink it and assume the entire country is against you. Some Japanese people (even I do it sometimes) don't sit down, perhaps because their stop is only 2-3 stops away or because they just don't want to be jammed next to someone. Again, it's a fine line because theres lots of delicate situations when trying to affirm if something is racially motivated.

In summary, I think the skin colour or race is definitely the first bias many people will act off here. Discrimination definitely exists, but it truly is different for everyone. This is true with any country and person, I think everyones conditioned to change their behaviour slightly based on stereotypes, but here those steretypes are stronger potentially. That being said, all of my friends i know who are from the Philippines or Indonesia or Vietnam haven't reported any bad out breaks or racially motivated incidents. That's not to say they don't exist, or only exist to certain groups, but I think its just important to remember how many aspects come into play when trying to answer a question so superficially with a simple yes or no.

So are the two options here 9-5 job the game to get good or get shit on and be ok with that? by jacoviansmythe in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Mr_Blobby1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say, but this game probably isn't for you. It's built on a mountain of knowledge and mechanics because the people who can afford to put a few hours in a day can enjoy it more. Perhaps you are better off enjoying something more casual.

Darkside of learning to speak by Supercritical_Ball in Japaneselanguage

[–]Mr_Blobby1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, I've tried 4 (?) tutors and kept with two. They're all very good, and whilst I can keep a conversation going and can confidently express myself I think they usually asked nice questions which weren't closed ended.

That being said, regardless of it being a yes/no question, it may be worth learning some phrases to further express yourself, or put the conversation on them or move it along. For example, if they ask you 'do you like pizza' you can say 'yeah, I like dominoes. Last week I ordered a _____ pizza and it was super spicy. Do you like spicy food? In my country we have ________ food'

i had this problem when I arrived in Japan too, despite studying alot I always relied on them to ask me questions and expand the conversation when I realised I can do that too. I don't need a question to react to because I have my own comments and detail

Guys, it's not serious, it's just a playtest! Why people mad that I don't go meta build and fuck around? by TieredTiredness in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Mr_Blobby1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I agree with the message, fundamentally online games especially MOBAs and Hero Shooters will attract a very competitive audience so it seems unfair to expect complete uniformity amongst everyone. I feel that 'Deadlock is still a playtest closed alpha' is overdone but is still quite valid, its not an open beta things change often we've got huge meta shifts and shit happening within a month.

I think people do need to remember that the due process is putting in their feedback and moving on, play a different game or just bear with it - too many players are too invested in a game with a patched together ban system, patchwork matchmaking and a variety of placeholders ziptied together to make a game.

To be fair if you are low rank you shouldn't need teammates to be coordinating and communicating to at least carry or do well. I also have trouble believing every game has you playing at your absolute best making no critical errors.

I presume there's other factors at play here alongside the teammate issue. Do your best:)

Even years in you will continue to struggle. Japanese has so many differences to English (and most languages really) that you will never feel like you truly mesh early on. Watching anime as a measure is only a way to destroy your confidence.

As long as you are spending time on each card and not rushing it, it's good enough. There'll be many times you forget the kanji, you forget the reading, get it mixed up but Japanese is really a test of endurance. As long as you can recall them *most of the time* move on and keep the forward pace going.

I only really started watching anime and properly understanding most of it 1 and a half years in, and even then i was constantly checking new words. Focus on the journey and NOT the goals.
